External SSD hard drive not detected by Airport Extreme/Time Capsule

Hello everyone, I have the following problem:

Framework

-J' bought a 1 TB Samsung SSD 840 EVO internal media.

-He is locked in a case of badges and used as an external hard drive

-J' have an Airport Extreme (5th generation)

-J' have a Time Capsule (4th Gen)

-My MBP detects the SSD external hard drive when it is connected to the USB port and works fine

Problem

-I connect the external SSD hard drive to the USB port on both TCapsule and AExtreme, but the HD is not detected directly (USD and with powered hub of USD)

-HD was formatted as OS x journaled Extended

-J' tried smb and cifs via 'connect to server', but does not work.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Juan

Unfortuantely, Apple did not update the firmware on the USB key (it is still 2.0) port on their routers for a number of years.  As a result, new USB 3.0 drives may or may not work with airports.

Yes, we know that USB 3.0 is supposed to be backward compatible with USB 2.0 in theory, but theory does not always work in practice.

If your drive is formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled)... also called HFS +... .and you have tried the drive with and without a USB hub powered and the reader will not be displayed with you check using the AirPort Utility disks tab... then you have one of a number of readers who do not work with routers from the airport.

I just checked a new LaCie USB 3.0 drive I have here. It works perfectly with a Mac, but it appears not at all when I connect it to the USB port or a powered new AirPort Extreme or new Time Capsule directly, or by using a USB hub.

Recently, my existing SSD drive gave me a lot of questions - so I'm a new and SuperDuper'ed the existing on it. Formatted the Windows partition and reinstalled Windows 10.

I have 50 GB on the Mac drive and 200 concerts on Windows.

The issue that I am facing is that on every other bootup, the Mac does not detect the hard drive.

If I OPTION-press and hold the button, I see only the 500 Gig data drive (which is not bootable).

Then, I need to restart and COMMAND + R (or D) to enter the internet recovery mode, wait until the choice of network is displayed.

Then when I reboot, I am presented with the original hard drive and multiple start options (Mac / Windows) on Refind.

I don't think it's a matter of refind, as happens even with uninstalled Refind.

This does not happen when I plug my old (SSD by default).

    Hi trinitario,.

Because the hard drive is not detected in the BIOS also, it may be due to a hard drive configuration that should be changed or a rider. If you need to get in touch with a Local tech-store for assistance.

Note: change in the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • Airport Extreme, Time Capsule best practices configuration

I searched for articles showing exactly what are the settings that I would see in my Airport Extreme Time Capsule. I put in place of the years before, but more recently WIFI was slow or choked several times a day. Our internet service provider recently upgraded its network, even though they claim that any slowdown is not their problem. I made sure the Time Machine backups do not cause them selfs. The Capsule is connected via CAT5 to the modem. All devices can connect wirelessly to the network.

Base Station name is unique. Network is not hidden. Password is super strong. Wireless security is WPA/WPA2 Personal, just in case the older devices need to connect. In the window of the wireless Options, 5 GHz network name is disabled. 2.4 and 5 GHz channels is set to automatic. Router mode network is DHCP and NAT.

I don't know if we're even using the 5 GHz mode. I want to make sure that we are optimizing on the installer. Any help is very appreciated.

    Wireless security is WPA/WPA2 Personal

It's bad... AC is optimized to WPA2 and you will suffer significant slow down with WPA1. Even if your TC is former model Wireless N, that customers with AC wireless cards will not work as well.

Use an AP gradually charge for older clients N or G... almost nothing today will be limited to the WPA1 unless it is very old and very slow.

Name of the 5 GHz network is unchecked. 2.4 and 5 GHz channels is set to automatic. Router mode network is DHCP and NAT.

The Apple 2.4 ghz speed limit... and always have.

You will get the wrong speed on 2.4 ghz and is therefore the only way to improve the speed force customers to 5 GHz that can usefully use it.

Check the 5 GHz range and give it a different name for the principal name wireless... It's the only way you can force clients to use the 5 GHz.

How old and exactly which model is the TC? The base A1xxx please if you do not know.

Age affects things. Routers wireless for some reason any servant of quality have a service life of about 3 years... the TC is actually worse than average... being more stressed to the load of the hard drive.

I made sure the Time Machine backups do not cause them selfs.

You actually turn off TM? Sometimes the TM always works, even when people think it's the start.

more recently WIFI was slow or choked several times per day

It's what I expected with TM still working on a computer.

Sorry, but from your description, it is possible that the power supply to your Time Capsule is defective.

What exact model of the time Capsule did you? If it is new, you can get it replaced by Apple, especially if you bought it with another Apple product.

  • External hard drive not detected with the error: "You must format the disk in the J: drive until you can use it."

    Hello

I have an external hard drive to work perfectly. I'm back from vacation, and it does not appear under "My Computer". It appears under "Devices and printers", however. This is a link to a screencap of Device Manager: http://i.gyazo.com/9e91e1d71ed32c55dba0419e79b499d5.png

The device in question is that of J:, and it says here that he has 100% free space, that worries me, because he had only 50 GB of free space when I used the latter. After that I open the disk management, I get a pop up message saying: "You must format the disk in the J: drive until you can use it."

How can I get my hard drive appears again?

  • Hard drive not detected once, but now?

    Hello

I am Zak, a bit of techno when it comes to playing with the software, or re-Assembly of computers and whatnot. Unfortunately, I have no idea about other things.

Some quick history on my laptop: the fan was made terrible noises in recent weeks. Initially, I thought it was little dust, so I got a few duster. A lot of dust came out, so that can only be good, but the noise came back after a few days. After some research, I thought that the other logical explanation was probably the hard drive goes bad. I hesitate to send back to HP because I use it for all my college work and it would really put me back weeks to have it not.

So, a few days ago I booted my computer laptop at a "drive not detected" - or very similar - message. There were a few options for f1 - f4, they were information system and 3 different tests (I think). I ran the tests, all of them came back fine, noting that there are no operating system installed, or a hard drive to boot from. I rebooted because I didn't quite start and wanted to see if there were other options. It turns out that he has started well. I restarted once more and again once it did it very well.

Then, I coded around, back up all my data, gather warranty information, installation of the HP Support Assistant, etc. I ran all the tests help Wizard and there is no problems found. Since I just got the laptop hibernation when I stop using it, and I have not met any unusual problems. All this sounds great, but my warranty expires December 7 this year. It is safe for me to assume that the "drive not detected" error was just one missed? I read a lot of discussions and FAQS on him and it's not something that happens once and goes. However, I never had to use a warranty so not sure quite how the process works, and as I said, he sent everywhere would put me in my work.

In order to be a full post, I have a HP G62 - 367DX laptop, running on Windows 7 64-bit OS, and as far as I know there no change was made between error and my prior boot. If there is any other information I can give you, let me know.

See you soon, thank you for all help and good day

The wizard tests are not as comprehensive or reliable as the drive hard test in the BIOS... tap F10 as you power up, go and find the hard drive test. Run the long form test and see what it says. It is not uncommon that the hard drive start as intermittent and get progressively more frequent problems. If your drive passes the test of long form, only enough safely, you can assume that it was a unique gremlin, but it's still a really good idea to back up. I like the idea of online backup services and I will quote Carbonite only because it is well known and not as an endorsement. There are several more and year external drive is a good idea.

You can't put off forever; restarting You'll have to deal with the issue at some point.

  • Pavilion 15-p080ca hard drive not detected in Win8, 03F1 0021 03F0 Bios errors, impossible to recover

    Hello

I bought a new laptop from Windows 8 15-p080ca tigerdirect.ca Pavilion and he received a couple of days.

The computer restarts randomly when working on it, I remember reading an IO error message in a popup windows.

Since then, he constantly reboot, tries to load windows, fails and restarts until the auto repair is involved.

Journal of the system BIOS has to many warnings and error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021.  I had about 3 times a hard drive not found error on POST.

I can't repair the installation either by partition recovery or recovery discs, I get "the disc is locked error" or "auto repair could not fix your pc.

Also Manager of recovery can not find the recovery partition.

On the command prompt diskpart list disk;  "There is no fixed disk to show.

However, the live cd Ubuntu and xp Mini are able to see all the partitions, view files and read them, a quick HDtune read test indicates no disk error.

The computer is able to read disk hard since I am able to get on the recovery and windows tries to load until I get "your pc ran into a problem that he couldn't handle and must be restarted.

HP PC Hardware diagnostic SMART test, short DST returns warning.  Diagnostic test of smart HP returned message 'no hard drive installed' only once.

Whatever it is that the base Windows 8, if the recovery disc, original media is not able to see the hard drive.

I tried to boot the recovery disc, the recovery partition with each combination of Legacy support and secure start to recover partitions without success because the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command).  The recovery DVDs, I get an error 0xefffff08. I also tried to remove the thought of recovery partition that he might want to move things faster.

Well, after many hours of research and testing, I think I tried everything I could do and would need support for additional testing or replacement of the defective material.

Thank you very much in advance for your help,.

    Jonathan.

Contacted HP Support, laptop, go to the repair center.  Probably the location of the hard drive to the motherboard as they said.

  • HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF: external hard drive not detected in the BIOS. Only USB Flash drives are detected.

    Hi all

I received recently 2 new HP desktop computers.

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 TWR

The goal is to test our real W7 x 64 image on these machines and to inject the missing drivers in the image.

MDT 2010 to create a deployment on a USB hard disk drive.

This disc of deployment is already used on 16 different models of HP in the company (Elitebook, zBook, EliteDesk) to install our image so I know it works.

Unfortunately, the two HP Elitedesk 800 G2, I can't start the boot disk but I cannot to USB for a USB key.

The USB drive is not detected and not proposed in the BIOS Menu of STARTUP.

Only the internal HD, external USB Flash Disk, DVD and network devices are detected.

Here's what I already checked or tried:

    • Latest Version of the BIOS installed (2.05)
    • UEFI Boot has been disabled. (not supported by our record of deployment)
    • USB ports are enabled (front and rear).
    • All types of USB devices are allowed in the BIOS
    • The start command has been changed to start with USB devices.
    • Legacy support is active and Secure Boot disabled
    • Delete the keys to secure boot
    • Reset secure by default startup keys
    • This morning, I created a new disk deployment on a USB Flash drive and it works!

So, it seems that only Flash USB drives are detected.

I know it is possible to return the flag removalble on a USB device to cheat the system and make it appear as a disk fixed, but I want a simple solution.

Does anyone know a fix or a workaround for this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

For those interested in the answer, here's the final results.

It turns out that the hard 500 GB external drive can be detected if it is fomatted in FAT32.

It's strange because my 16 GB USB Flash drive formatted in NTFS works very well.

In any case, I'll create a FAT32 Partition to the Boot MDT files and put my picture (because the file is too big for FAT32 partition) on the secondary partition (formatted as NTFS).

Thanks to the technical pre-sales team of HP who helped me with this!

  • External hard drive not detected

I have an external hard drive of 4 Marine to... .and a Macbook pro with the latest El Capitan... When I connect the external hard drive for Mac pro, an external hard drive can not detect, but there is a light flashing on the external hard drive. It worked well until last night after I used iTunes and went to another Mac. I still eject properly.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem

Try using disk utility to repair the disk. If the drive does not appear in the disk utility list, then he dies. Contact the manufacturer or supplier.

Shut down the computer, disconnect the drive. Wait five minutes and then reboot and reconnect the drive.

  • External hard drive not detected in Windows 7.

    G ' Day,.

I have a 1 TB external hard drive.  It is recognized by my new computer, but not by the 8 year old.  I use Windows 7 and is updated daily.  Please could someone tell me what I should do to get the old computer to recognize the H E drive please.  The hard drive is a WD and almost new.

    Perry has soon

    Hi Perry,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description, I understand that your external hard drive is not recognized by your computer.

This could happen due to some system conflicts.

    I need some information.

    1. What is the make and model of your computer / external hard drive?
    2. You get no matter what error code or error message?

    Try the methods.

Method 1: Run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Step 1: I suggest you check in Device Manager if the external drive is listed there.

    1. Connect external hard drive to the computer.
    2. To open Device Manager, type devmgmt.msc in the start search box and press ENTER.
    3. Check to see if the external hard drive is listed.
    4. In Device Manager, expand the hard drive listed in the list of devices.
    5. If the hard disk is listed, are doing a right click on it > click Properties.
    6. In general, look under device status for the message. After back if there is no error message.

Step 2: Check if the external drive is detected in disk management.

If the hard drive recognized in disk management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I suggest that you right-click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check to see if it helps:

    Reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

I hope this helps. Please let us know the results. We will be happy to help you further.

  • External hard drive not detected in Windows 8

I just bought a Dell XPS 13, running Windows 8.

I have two external hard drives from LaCie.

Disc 1 is used with a Lenovo X120e running Windows 7.

Disc 2 has two partitions, exclusively for my Macbook Pro running 10.9.5 and the other smaller partition is used to move files between Lenovo and the Macbook.

When I connect Drive 1 to the XPS 13, nothing happens. It is not turn nor it appears in Device Manager.

If I turn it on to Lenovo, it works very well.

When I connect Drive 2 to the XPS 13 (to the same USB port and using the same cable), he turns and is detected.

If the port is working, pilots work, cable works and Drive 1 works when connected to the Lenovo running Windows 7.

How can I get the XPS 13 to recognize Drive 1? There must be a way to do this without formatting again.

    Thank you.

The drive is visible in the BIOS or the mode without failure on the XPS 13?

You can also try to paginate the connection of the power supply in the drive that works.
