Failed to add a program to the DEP

Here's the question.  I play Day of Defeat: Source steam.  After one of their updates I started getting errors when I leave the game.  He told me that DEP closed the program.  I go to settings to turn off DEP for hl2.exe (the program for the game that crashes), but get an error saying that the program SHOULD run with DEP.  Now, just check the number, I take on my laptop that I use for the trip.  Running the same OS and I have exactly the same problem.  I fought back with this trying to get DEP to allow this program to run, but he used.

I did the following:
1 has attempted to add hl2.exe with the exception of the DEP.  FAILED
2. enable DEP for programs and Windows services only.  FAILED
3. people with disabilities all antivirus and firewalls. FAILED
4 performed a clean boot by following the instructions on the windows support and repeated 1 and 2.  FAILED
5 reinstall the game completely on both machines.  FAILED.
Hl2.exe replaced with a copy of another steam game.  LET ME ADD THE PROGRAM TO DEP BUT ALWAYS CRASHED WITH EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM THEN WOULDN'T LET ME ADD BACK TO THE DEP.  FAILED
6. update all the drivers I could think.  FAILED

I did restart after each of these steps in order to ensure.

I'm at my wits end at the moment.  I contacted STEAM on this subject, but they keep linking me to windows help links and have no idea why I can't add it to the list of DEP exceptions.  STEAM insists that it is a Windows problem, even if I'm having this problem on my desktop AND my laptop.

Both systems are well above the recommended game system configuration, two systems working for several years with this game up to now, the two systems running the same operating system.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

It's weird because I can play the game very well, but it crashes whenever I stop.  It's really annoying.

Hello

Try to run the game in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

  • Failed to add a program to the start

    Hello

Adding (shortcuts) programs in my startup folder has no effect on logging in my windows session (7). Here are the steps I did:

    (1) create a whatever.exe shortcut (I tried with various)

    2) move to the startup folder (start > all programs > startup)

    (3) restart

    (4) login (entered my password)

    (5) the .exe has not begun.

These .exe not display correctly in my startup folder, and I can launch them manually.

No idea what the problem is please?

    Thank you

    (Edited because of the vagueness)

I can't think of a reason why they would not launch. I use Windows 7 myself at work and have about 5 things in my startup folder (Outlook, OneNote and a few icon tray that monitor network traffic and other programs).

I think the next step in troubleshooting that I would try is to create a new user profile on the computer and see if it works there.

The only thing I know that can remove those is Msconfig Startup tab or holding down SHIFT when connecting.

    Change Data Execution Prevention settings

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that protects against viruses and other security threats by analyzing your programs to make sure that they use the system safely memory.

If you choose to protect all programs, you can always turn off DEP for individual programs. If you think that a program does not run correctly when DEP is enabled, check for a compatible version of the DEP program or an update from the software publisher before you change your DEP settings.

    1. Click to open the system.

    2. Click Advanced system settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Under performance, click settings.

    4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

To turn off DEP for an individual program

      • Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for and then click OK.

If the program is not in the list, click Add. Navigate to the Program files, search for the executable file of the program (it will have the .exe extension) and then click Open.

There are several ways to do so. And here's one:

In my computer or Windows explorer, open your startup folder-

    C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

or if you want to do this for all users, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Then, leaving open, open a second instance of the desktop or Windows explorer and navigate to the program you want to start automatically. Their right and drag the program to your startup folder. When you release the right mouse button, the choices that you are given, choose "Create shortcut here."

  • How change the registry Vista so I can add my program in the default programs list?

    Hello

I need help to change the register of Vista so I can't add Sibelius 5 to the list of default programs.

I need to do this for some reason when I try to open the files .sib I need to open it with a program. So why I want 5 of Sibelius.

However, when I do this, I do the normal navigation and select 5 of Sibelius in program files but nothing happens.

I was in Control Panel and was in default programs and all that stuff in there, but still it's not helping.

    See you soon

    Hello

We could do this in the registry, but it shouldn't. You mention that you went into default programs, but you don't mention if you have tried successfully to associate the file .sib with Sibelius. That's what I would try first.

    (1) navigation to the "default programs":

In "Control Panel Home", select "Programs", then on "Default programs", choose "do a type of file always open in a specific program.

    Or b:

Search "Classic view" for the "default programs". Select "Set your default programs".

    2)

Scroll down the list until you see. SIB. Double-click on that. Select Browse and locate the Sibelius program.

(Note: * maybe that is your problem.) --> Make sure you browse to the EXECUTABLE file. If you access a shortcut, it will not and it may not work correctly when you try to open later.

    * And you're good to go. Once it is associated with, you should be able to double-click the .sib file and run the program. Hope this helps,
