  • Should I disable the file vault before any downgrades...?

    Greetings...!

I am running El Capitan 10.11.6 with File Vault active. I am considering upgrading to Sierra, once it is released, tomorrow. However, if it causes problems or I simply don't like it and want to downgrade disable file Vault before starting this procedure? If I demoted would probably downgrade to the Mavericks, that I much prefer it.

Thanks in advance for any future assistance...

  • Time Machine security and file Vault

I've been using Time Machine to backup my Mac on a HDD external Cie La for a long time.  I wonder if someone would be able to access my ups back if they stole my external HDD of the Cie. I recently started using the file Vault on my Mac but my HDD external Cie La was temporarily disconnected when I used the file Vault to encrypt my Mac. I need to run File Vault to encrypt my Cie La external HARD drive? (I partitioned my HARD drive the Cie I use part to store your confidential files. When I created the partition I used for the password of the Cie system protect the part where I store my confidential docs, but not for the part that handles the back ups time Machine). Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

FileVault encrypts only your drive hard iMac, not your drive Time Machine, so that anyone with access to your external drive can view and restore your backups.

Time Machine has acquired an option that allows you to encrypt your backups. Just follow these steps-> OS X Yosemite: secure your Time Machine backup disk

Apart from that, you have two partitions on your drive externally (one for backup) and another for your personal files or is in a partition? I suggest you keep your backups and your personal files in different partitions or drives, as they may interfere with Time Machine.

  • File Vault passwords and keychain.

File Vault prevents unauthorized access to passwords stored in the keychain?

FileVault encrypts your OS X partition so that all stored (including Keychain) are not accessible without your user password (OS X will not even start if you do not enter your password). However, if someone managed to log in to your user account, there will be no problems for access to your keychain, the process is the same as on a Mac without FileVault.

  • File Vault using the same password as a user account?

As my computer is password protected is what advantage is there in the use of File Vault especially if it will have the same password as my user account?

Without FileVault, anyone who is in physical possession of the computer can read and edit all your files without knowing your password. With FileVault, it cannot.

What password? You can change a password for the account, but if you do not know the FileVault password, you are in a bind. You need to call Apple directly if you their sent an emergency password when configuring the FV.

  • Disk utility does not not what Time Machine backup connected / file Vault question?

    Hi all

    I'm on Mac OSX El Capitan 10.11.3 (15 d 21) on a Macbook Pro 8.2 (early 2011)

Previously, when File Vault was not activated I've been able to backup on my external drive for Time Machine (1 TB store Transcend jet) and the drive was visible when opening disk utility no problem...

Now since I have encrypted my first Macintosh HD using File Vault, my disk utility program will not load when my Time Machine (unencrypted) external backup disk is connected, and I can not back up by using the application Time Machine (the player is simply not visible).

When my external drive for Time Machine is not connected, my disk utility opens very well and I can see my Macintosh HD all external USB drives.

I tried to re-boot, I tried to disconnect all external devices, I tried to connect the Time Machine drive with two USB ports and I tried to open the first disk utility, and then connect the external drive for Time Machine without success.

Anyone else have experience with this problem or something similar? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

Make sure your computer is compatible with Lion mountain, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan.

To check the model number and hold the option/Alt hold, go to the Apple menu and select system information.

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3.1 or later version.

    Your Mac needs:

Installation of OS X 10.6.8 or OS X Lion

2 GB or more of memory (more is better - minimum 4 GB seems to be the consensus)

8 GB or more of available space

  • How can I repair a file Vault disk in El Capitan?

I had force my Macbook shut down recently and I opened disk utility to see if everything was okay. I'm running day El Capitan with a FileVault encrypted drive. Mid-2014 Macbook Pro bought February 2015.

"First aid" running on the external Apple SSD article seems to be OK. It is when I run 'First aid' Macintosh HD said tells me that something is wrong and it needs to be repaired, but there is no repair button. Subsequent executions of "First aid" keep showing that there is a problem, so it doesn't seem to be repaired first aid course.

I tried to start with the command + R to repair the disk, but it let me only apply "First aid" for Apple, not the Macintosh HD SSD. He said that Macintosh HD was not mounted. I guess it's because it is encrypted with FileVault, but I couldn't find how to tell him to decipher or mount the drive to take a peek.

How can I run a repair on the disk? Should I even bother?

    Thank you!

To mount, check or repair a disk or a volume that is encrypted with FileVault using disk utility, enter the FileVault password when you are prompted.

  • Only local users appear in the list of connection

I installed recently to El Capitan on an iMac and have problems with the users network connection settings. The server is running the Mavericks with OS X Server 3

The first problem is the login screen. If the value to the list only displays the users created locally on the iMac. It doesn't even have the option 'other '.  If I change to display the username and password I can connect to the network no problem accounts, but this is not what I want.

File Vault is not lit. The parameters are almost all by default. It's one clean and installation other than the connection to the server and allowing the connection of the network user, I made no changes before my first attempt.

Since then, I created other local and users made changes to the connection options for the test but nothing else.

The profile on the Server Manager is configured to display the 'other' and a list of users on the network (I changed a couple of times for the test settings, but nothing changes).

It may be unrelated, but I found that the other changes in the Profile Manager appear to have no effect. For example, I did one of the users of the network, a mobile account, but he is not ready you as mobile on the iMac.

Can someone give me tips on where to find the next?

Is there a reason that you use Server3?
