Files appear in 'Read only' and unable to change that.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. A couple of weeks, I had a big problem with some of my permissions of the user being edited (don't know how I did it but it happened) so I was unable to access programs and files, after awhile with a MS tech on cat and a system restore (failed), I just created a new user account and delete the old one.

Everything seems to work fine now, but before I created the user account, I copied some files I had on the desktop to a flash drive and put them with my new office to the user. The property file to keep appearing as 'Read only' even after unchecking the choice and the application it is just when I close.

This also happens when I create a new folder on the desktop, its default property is 'Read Only' - why would this be and how can I change it?

Hi GoodfellaJC,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

Follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1:

To view or to remove the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Vista or Windows 7

1. click on Start, click run, type cmd , and press ENTER.

2. to view the syntax for the Attrib command, type attrib /? at the command prompt.

To remove the read-only attribute and to set the system attribute, use the following command:

attrib - r + s drive:------------

For example, to remove the read-only attribute and set the attribute to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

attrib - r + s c:\test

Be aware that some programs may not operate correctly with folders for which the read-only attribute and the system attribute are granted. Therefore, use the following command to remove these attributes:

attrib - r s by car:------------

For example, to remove both the read-only and the attributes to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

attrib - r-s c:\test

If the run command is not listed in the Start menu, follow these steps:

Click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories , and then click run.

For more information, see the article mentioned below.

You cannot view or change the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7

Hope this information is useful.

    I do a lot of scanning to PDF and will often add a page newly digitized to an existing pdf archived and then resave it.

    I have a very consistent workflow and use both screens. The folders that contain the files are still on my second monitor while I work on the main screen.

    After that I inserted the page newly digitized in the existing pdf very often I get an error Impossible to save the file:

    The file may be read-only or another user can open. Please save the document under a different name or in a different folder.

    I'm the only user, none of the files are read-only, and I am sure that the file I'm re-record is not enabled (I see that on my second screen).

    Sometimes, if I click on the second screen to another folder, he'll let re-register me, but other times I have to close the Windows Explorer completely.

    I would avoid renaming of files: it is important to keep the name of the original file.

    This seems to happen a lot more with Acrobat X Pro version 9. It's very embarrassing.

    No known workaround solution?

    In the case of Windows (a Mac user will have to talk about this for the environment).

    If Windows Explorer is "focused" on the file (for example, the file selected) or has the "focus" on the parent or the files folder/directory you get the alert dialog box.

    Close Windows Explorer or place its development d.

    In addition, if the preview feature is used for files in a folder (or in a nested subfolder files) you will experience similar "speed humps" in the path of the workflow.

    Was not always in this way, but the OS updates (XP, Vista, etc.) seem to have given us some clever new options which, by coincidence, there are some pitfalls.

  • Impossible to turn off read-only - and I already checked the Security tab

    Hello, I use Vista Ultimate.  I'm on my home computer and have full administrative rights.  Have a big problem trying to get the recovery off the power on a personal folder read-only.  It is NOT a folder on a network or is a system folder.  When I go in the folder and click on the Security tab, ALL users have full right to make any changes.    No error displayed whenever I then deselect read only on the general tab, click on or .  But when I re - open the folder and check the properties, read-only is still active.  It's driving me crazy.  HELP!?!?!?!

    Have you checked to see if the files in the folder are effectively read-only or if the only problem is that the file is checked in read-only?

    You may need to go higher in the chain of record because some properties are inherited (see advanced security of the folder until you come to one where the special permissions list including all permissions that are inherited for administrators or your user account). It does not stick because you don't have the permissions and/or ownership to allow you to make the change.  You must have permissions to full right for all folders (both on the main page and in the special permissions list) and you will have to take possession of the records as well.  Then change the ownership and permissions for yourself and administrators and don't forget to check the box for all files and subdirectories.  This should give you what you need to make the changes.  Here is some information that might help.

    To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

    To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck1

  • File.copyTo (result): read-only files

    Hello

    Long story short: I want to copy the files in the directory 'active' of my project (i.e. File.applicationDirectory) in a folder where the user can modify these files (i.e. File.documentsDirectory).

    I use File.copyTo () and it works fine, but the copied files are read-only and the user can modify.

    For a temporary workaround I just read and write FileStream and ByteArray, files but I do not like this solution.

    Any other ideas? This is the expected behavior of copyTo()? Is it possible to change the properties of the file (i.e. to change a read-only to writable file)?

    Thank you.

    I expect that be appropriate behavior because the file was read-only to the assets during conditioning. The permissions of files is a thing of OS, so you can listen to as you did of assets to the shared (instead of use copyTo) area or you can probably create a DONKEY to change permissions. If the files are small, the easiest would be to distribute the file as you said.

  • Audit (app.alert) for read-only and submit or nevermind

    Hi script ninjas. I have a MouseUp action a button titled 'Finalize & E-mail '. Based on input from the end user, it is necessary to add an alert message to reduce a large volume of phone calls 'I can't add more information in the form."

    My intention was to have a button that would make the 'read only' form and then submit by attaching in the form of an email. But it seems now that I need an app.alert to go with it. So, I fought on where to add the "else" statement in the JS below. Without this statement else what I get is - an attachment with a read-only form or an email that is not. What I want is - if the user chooses "no," the user back to the form to continue adding information. I'm sure it's an easy fix, but I went down too bad rabbit hole today. Thank you in advance.

    var r = app.alert ("are you sure you want to develop and submit this document? This action can not Ωtre annulΘe. ", 2, 2) ;

    If (r == 4) {/ / 4 is Yes, 3 is not}

    for (var i = 0; i < this.numFields; i ++) {}

    fname = this.getNthFieldName (i) var;

    this.getField (fname) .readonly = true; makes all readonly fields

    }

    }

    It's the return of form e-mail. It is hardcoded

    to make the form comes back to the same address.

    Change of address on your form to match the code below

    var cToAddr = " " [email protected] "" "

    var cCCAddr = this.getField("PROJECT_APPLICANT_EMAIL").value + ";" + this.getField("LEAD_AGENCY_EMAIL").value;

    var mySubject = this.getField ("Agency") .value +' | "" + this.getField("Today").value + "| "" + this.getField("Counter").value + "| "+ this.getField ("Project Title") .value;

    Set the body of the text of the e-mail message

    var cbody = 'Thank you for your Document.\n\n' + 'Save the attachment of the completed form for your records\n\n' + 'your document is now in good hands. "

    Send the PDF as an attachment to an e-mail

    this.mailDoc ({bUI: true, cTo: cToAddr, cCc: cCCAddr, bassujetti: mySubject, CMSG: cbody});

    All you need to do is to put all the code in the block that starts with the if, like this condition:

    If (r == 4) {}

    put the code to set read-only fields and submit the file here

    }

  • When you try to put the graphic in the library «the file may be read-only...» »

    Hi all

    I thought that I try the new tools of the CC library.

    But when I want to place a symbol in a library, I get this warning:

    "The file may be read-only or another user can open. Please save the document under a different name or in a different folder. »

    The symbol is on a whole new document, created and recorded by me, and there is no one else around me.

    The funny thing is only economy/add the colors of this symbol in the library is no problem at all.

    Reserving the document does not resolve this issue.

    So what's going on/false?

    Ok

    Thanks the Apple community, I solved this problem.

    Yes, I can add assets to any CC library!

    It has everything to do with permissions.

  • Form of the iPad... help needed please.  Clear form after email read only and sequential numbering

    Hello

    I am a complete newbie at this but that's what I want to achieve.

    I have a sheet of paper in double report I want to get electronically, I want to be able to add sequential numbers to each report and be able to send the report to the client of an email field in the form

    so far, I have so I created the pdf form, I have a button that runs a JavaScript script that will hide the button send and then send the email from customers and to bcc myself so I have a copy of the report also. This has been tested and works

    I'm fighting with sequential numbering and once the form has been sent by e-mail it is the Nations United-ditable JavaScript has converted to read only for emailing that is good because it cannot be changed. But is it possible my send button to send the report read-only and then disable all form fields in the report ready for filling with the sequential number next?

    I had a good look of resolution for this but I'm bad

    Thank you very much in advance for any comments

    Hi Paul,.

    I assume you are using the desktop version of Acrobat Pro to create the form.

    I will move this discussion to the forum of PDF forms so that experts in the forum can answer your question.

    Please note that the Reader/Acrobat DC of mobile applications (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, etc.) have limited support for JavaScript.

    JavaScript for QAnywhere Player Mobile (iOS)

    You may be able to make the shape you want in the desktop version of Adobe Reader/Acrobat Reader DC.  However, some features (for example, adding a sequence number to each PDF) will not work in mobile applications because of the limited support of JavaScript.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
