  • Quick question from a newbie... Can I use an API of the Adobe Reader to open and fill out a PDF form to my MFC application?

    Hello people.

If I'm in the wrong forum, might well want to suggest a more appropriate forum?

It is a pretty basic question.

I downloaded the SDK and watched, but I'm still a little uncertain. Simply because there is a ton of information to this site, and it's all new to me.

I have a Visual Studio MFC application. (Visual Studio 2008)

I want to change the application to read a PDF form to fill out, and I want to programmatially fill in some of the data in the field as it appears on the screen. This could be considered writing a PDF file, but I think it's only complete, because I can do this with Acrobat Reader. I assume that there is an API available to do this.

I saw something on IAC, then maybe that where I need to study.

I'm the developer. I need to buy Adobe Acrobat? Or is the right drive for this?

My customers will need to purchase Adobe Acrobat? Or the drive will be enough?

It's one thing for me as a developer to buy the tool to improve enforcement, but another question, if I go to the end users and tell them that they need to buy and install Adobe Acrobat.

I'm not afraid to have a discussion, I just want to know ahead what debate, I need to have.

Are there different APIs available for different Windows OS? One for XP for Vista 32-bit, one for Vista 64-bit, for Windows 7... etc.

Or is this the same way, regardless of the platform?

    I'm looking for advice.

    All would be appreciated.

    Thank you

The only way to fill a form in Adobe Reader is to use the file in FDF or XFDF format.   They are text-based formats that you can put the form data and a link to the PDF document in and then ask the REader to open it (and the associated PDF file) upwards and fill automatically.

You can't poll drive for more information, however.

Program used to complete the form (I guess they are in PDF format)? OPERATING SYSTEM? Versions of both? Forms were filled before you save them?

I filled out an online form and I try to send it to the organization. When I say submit, it tries to connect to File: / / / C/users/Gail/Downloads and not in the site of organizations

There is nothing you can do about it. Report the problem to the organization. They should fix it and send you a new version of the PDF file.

Can I fill out a pdf file if I open it with iBook?

No, you can't. iBooks does not read the fields to fill in a PDF file. You need a soft like Acrobat Reader from the App Store.

    Tony.

I find it very difficult to write something readable, due to illness. Is it possible that I can fill out a form using my Acer Aspire 3050 Portable Media Center Edition 32 bit Dell V105 printer with Windows XP.
Any suggestion will be in simple step by step instructions.because I am an old companions and not very quick on the uptake of these days...

Tony, you CAN certainly fill in most forms using your computer and your printer - there are several different ways.

The easiest way is if you can get a form ' to fill' one who requests the information.  For example, several forms of Government are available in PDF format that you can load on your computer, fill out the form and print the completed form.

If you can get a copy of the form that is designed to be completed on a computer it is still possible to complete the form on your computer, but it can be much more complicated.

If you can get a copy of the form computer, then the next most simple is simply type the form on your computer.  This works well enough for such simple forms of medical questionnaires that have been created in a word processor.  If the blank form is just plain text with lines for you to write your answers, it is often too hard to just retype the form into your word processor.  You may need to experiment with the police and the font size to make your form to resemble the original, but it is not too difficult if the original form is quite simple and you are experienced using your word processor.

The most difficult is to create your answers in a word processor and print them to the new form.  The problem with this method is trying to align your answers with the spaces in the original formula.  At the time of the former format WordPerfect or other serious word processor for DOS software, it has been possible to pinpoint where text will be printed.  With some word processors Windows modern, it is easy to see about what will look like printed text, but it is almost impossible to place accurately exactly where each part of the text of a document will print.  Today, it is convenient only for forms that have large spaces for your answers and your answers are much smaller than the space provided.

A method that can work well in text of Windows is to type your answers as text superimposed over a graphic (picture) of the form.  In general, you need a scanned image size of the form, you need to insert the image of the form as a background image in the word processing document, and then type your responses so that they are correctly positioned on the form image.

Finally, it may be possible to talk with people who need the form to see if you can just provide all the answers, printed from your computer so they can be include the print form or someone to enter your answers into the form for you.

Keep in mind, that if you have a physical or mental disability which, like poor vision, shaking hands or arthritis of the hands that you can fill out a form, and then the Government agency or of activities that requires that the form has a legal obligation under the Americans With Disabilities Act for you provide all the necessary assistance or accommodation.  For example, they can have someone read you each part of the form and then write in your answers. All you would have to say your answers and then sign the completed form.

First of all, you should try to ask politely to get a copy of the form you can fill out on your computer or some other reasonable accommodation - if they say there of nothing they can do to help you, try politely reminding them of their obligations under the Americans With Disabilities Act - if this still fails, check with your city government or State to find the office that handles the issues for people with disabilities.  You can't exactly help you prefer, but you will get assistance to solve the problem.

  • Fill out the PDF from Sql Server DB

It is my understanding that the central forms and Life Cycle have been written off.

I have a PDF form that is a label template I want to fill in the fields with the data that I get a SQL database server...

I understand that this can be done using Java Script. By trade, I am an ASP.net developer.  I found so many things that apply

Google and adobe that I find myself very confused on what to use to do this. I see of FDF, XFDF, PDF/A, PDF / X, PDF/E and a host of other acronyms and environments.

My Question is what is the most recent application that I can use.  , I subscribe to ADOBE Acrobat DC.  Is DC environmental last use?

    Thank you

"LiveCycle" refers to a whole family of products, Adobe - most of them based on the server. I guess you're talking about LiveCycle Designer, used to be bundled with Adobe Acrobat Pro, but since Acrobat XI is only available as a stand-alone product. It's always supported a product, and if you want to connect your form to a database, it's your only option. Only XFA forms can 'talk' to a SQL DB directly. Please keep in mind that you must use Adobe Acrobat to edit your form, or the PDF form must be registered with rights form, which can only be done with the help of another Member of the family of LiveCycle.

If you want to use AcroForms (those you create with Adobe Acrobat DC), they cannot communicate directly with a database, and you need a 'glue' between the DB and Acrobat (or drive) to fill out the form with data from DB. This is possible for example on a server with a software that can merge date in a PDF form, or with a software that can convert the data from the FDF or XFDF data base data, which can then be read by Acrobat or the free player to fill out the form. PDF/A, PDF / X or PDF/E do not play a role here, these are just different (standardized) subsets of the language used for archiving, PDF print production and engineering.

And Yes, DC Acrobat is the most recent version of the software.

  • When I try to fill in a PDF form, it blocks my system. How can I fix?

I am running Acrobat X Pro on Windows 10. When I try to fill in PDF forms, my system crashes. How can I get help to solve this?

How to get to a version even earlier and therefore still less compatible, Acrobat would solve this problem?

If anything, you need to upgrade to a newer version, as XI or DC (both officially compatible with Windows 10).

You can import form data in a PDF file if it is saved as a plain delimited by tabs

text file, with the names of the fields in the first row and values of

    the second.

  • text 'double' when filling out of a form

A schoolbook (Dutch) who will have a paper and an electronic version, I have lines where the students should be able to write or type the answers to the questions. I used 5 for InDesign design, and for the electronic version, I made a form of it in Acrobat using the form wizard. I want to use the same InDesign file for both versions.

To complete the electronic version, I want a 10-point letter to use, I don't want the size to be automatic. Because the original pdf looks the same as the version of the book, I have several lines for the response, but the last line for any response is set up for multiple lines in the electronic version.

    So far so good.

Now I'm the test filling lines. No problem in the last line (set to multiple lines), but in the other lines the complete text Gets a shadow/echo (in another size). This is also where when I print out (or make a new pdf from it). See the image.

What is happening and what to do about it?

    003.jpg

Either you have more than one field with the same name or the text under

fields (text file shows running). In this case, set it

white color block filling of fields.

  • can I change the font to fill out a pdf file?

OK, long story short. I area Acrobat and tried to reinstall but it kept thowing by abot of error messages is not installed correctly and threatening to close, then I installed Adobe Acrobat pro & spin as a trial.

I have a few jpeg images I have saved in pdf and want to fill in "Olde English" do I have on my PC and works well in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Before I pass on this Adobe Acrobat Pro purchase, if I go back the free player is there a way to use my own fonts?

Yes, that's correct, unless the author of the form put in place so that the

    field is "Rich Text content".

In this case, you can select which fonts are used in the text field, but

    not otherwise.
