FIRST analytical functions returns the null line

The following query returns a null line when there is no such thing as a line for the predicate. Is it a bug or expected behaviour. If so what is the meaning of the null row, is it not logical?

SELECT NVL (max (ah.fyr_end_dt) KEEP (DENSE_RANK FIRST ORDER BY ah.as_of_dt DESC), ' RETURNED NULL')
Of account_history ah
WHERE
Ah.acct_id = 999
AND trunc (ah.as_of_dt) < = 31 December 08 '
;

Moreover, in my example how I distinguish the case where a line really exists, but the column is null when there is no such thing as a line and the FIRST function returns the same value null? Hopefullly I should be able to do it in a single SQL and know the difference?

COUNT (*) > 0, but COUNT (col_x) = 0, then there is a line, but col_x happened to be null.

For example, the following query shows that there is 1 row in the group with the lowest name ("ADAMS"), but the column comm in all ranks of this group is null:

SELECT COUNT (*) KEEP (DENSE_RANK FIRST ORDER BY ename)
                          AS total_cnt
, COUNT (comm) KEEP (DENSE_RANK FIRST ORDER BY ename)
                          AS comm_cnt
FROM     scott.emp
;

Output:

 TOTAL_CNT   COMM_CNT
---------- ----------
         1          0

The employee whose highest name ("WARD") has a number in the comm column.

  • Function returning the query takes longer to run in Apex4.0

    Hi all

    I've created a report using the function returns the query. The function returns the query based on parameters that returns the dynamic columns. When I run the query in sql developer the query generates and returns the result in 3mins. But in the apex, it takes 35 minutes maximum to return.

    The query returns about 10000 lines.

    What a performance problem in the query or Apex? can someone help plz

    No it's just the first tranche of 500. You can run it in good old SQL * more and the total time of the time (be patient however)

  • analytical function and the aggregate function

    What are the analytical function and the aggregate function. What is the difference between them?

    Hello

    Analytic Functions : -.

    Analytical functions calculate a value of aggregation based on a group of lines. They differ from aggregate functions because they return several rows for each group. The Group of rows is called a window and is defined by the analytic_clause. For each line, a sliding window of lines is defined. The window determines the range of lines used for the calculations for the current line. Window sizes can be based on a physical number of rows or a logic as the time interval.
    Analytical functions are the last set of operations performed in a query with the exception of the last ORDER BY clause. Every joint and every WHERE, GROUP BY and HAVING clauses are met before the analytical functions are handled. As a result, analytic functions can only appear in the select list or the ORDER BY clause.
    Analytical functions are commonly used to calculate cumulative aggregates, moving, centered and considered.

    Aggregate functions : -.

    Aggregate functions return a line of single result based on the groups of lines, rather than on the unique lines. Aggregate functions can appear in selection lists, as well as in the HAVING and ORDER BY clauses. They are commonly used with the GROUP BY clause in a SELECT statement, where Oracle Database splits the rows in a table when asked or seen in groups. In a query that contains a GROUP BY clause, the select list items can be aggregation functions, GROUP BY constant expressions or expressions involving one of them. Oracle applies the functions of aggregation for each group of rows and returns a single result for each group line.
    If you omit the GROUP BY clause, Oracle then applies any aggregate functions in the select list for all rows in the table queried or the view. You use aggregate functions in the HAVING clause to eliminate groups of the output based on the results of aggregate functions, rather than the values of the individual lines of the queried table or view.

    Let me know if you feel any problem understanding.
    Thank you.

    MY question is if the analytical function calculates for a particular/set group, which is by statute and for what min (date_from) partition is 25-apr-2007 for the GROUP H (Status column), then why I have different values returned by the query above in the min_dt_from_grp column.

    Hello

    Because you have specified an ORDER BY clause for the analytical function. In doing so, you calculate the rows on a window. Since you have not specified a windowing clause, the default applies:

    RANGE BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW

    Hello

    I have a page where I can insert/update user, organization, responsible.

    I have a branch of type creates a branch to the function return URL that returns a URL. The branch is triggered via a page element button. The branches of the page at the URL very well but the URL has nothing to do with the application, it is an external URL, so I want to open the link in a new browser tab. Using the link attributes, this is done by using target = "_blank" but I don't see a way to do that in this situation. Seems simple enough, what don't get me?

    Nothing. It is not possible to do this using a branch as the changing context of the browser should be initiated by the browser, not the server. Use JavaScript to do this automatically:

    window.open('', '_blank');

    I'd go with changing the direction if it branches to the original page, setting a value of ASK for use as a condition on dynamic action of The Execution of JavaScript Code that runs the window.open.

  • Function returning the tree used with the object type

    Hi guys!

    I'm fighting for some time now of a function that should return the tree structure of the employees. Let me clarify...
    I have a table say Manager and employees (two columns for an example)
    MANAGER_ID
    EMPLOYEE_ID

    Example:

    MAN_ID - 1; EMPLOYE_ID - 2;
    MAN_ID - 2; EMPLOYE_ID - 3;
    MAN_ID - 2; EMPLOYE_ID - 4;
    MAN_ID - 4; EMPLOYE_ID - 5

    The purpose of my function is back for a specified MAN_ID everyone in the tree...

    Example:

    RETURN_TREE (1) return {2,3,4,5};
    RETURN_TREE (2) returns {3,4,5};
    RETURN_TREE (4) returns {5};

    How to get there?

    With respect,

    PsmakR

    And use BULK COLLECT or the COLLECT function to build the collection:

    create type emp_table as table of number(6);
    /

    DECLARE
     v_emp_list emp_table;
    BEGIN
     select cast(collect(employee_id) as emp_table)
     into v_emp_list
     from employees
     connect by prior employee_id = manager_id
     start with manager_id = :p_man_id

     -- or
     /*
     select employee_id
     bulk collect into v_emp_list
     from employees
     connect by prior employee_id = manager_id
     start with manager_id = :p_man_id
     */
    END;
    /

  • 12.2.4 WebADI - Integrator custom fails to cleanup script is triggered when the import returns the error lines

    Hi, hoping for help because it is not very useful detailed documentation on this topic here.

    I built a custom WebADI that uses custom procedures to validate and download the date in a custom table.  I then called an importer script that checks the balance of files (and other things) and mark the lines that do not reach a State of error.  I also managed to get these errors to be selected by the definition of error line and message error search section and everything is right with the world.

    Except that when imported and reports to hide the sad faces appear in the worksheet, I expect the cleanup script then learn to delete the records so that when the errors are corrected in the spreadsheet we don't get the lines in double... and is not.  No amount of tweaking, etc. application errors will result in cleaning the fire.

    Can someone tell me what I need to import of PL/SQL program to do when it detects a mistake for execution of the cleaning procedure?

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

    IT FIXED myself.

    The downloaded must be a function and return an error message of VARCHAR2.  If you return NULL - then the cleaning is not called as expected. If you return to any string, then cleanup is called.

  • IMAQ edge tool 2 'first + last edge' - returns the position of the first border

    I use 'IMAQ edge tool 2.vi' with the whole process in order to detect the 'first and last edge. It is obvious to edge coordinates the infromation seeing that it returns only a single point. Where are the coordinates of the last edge detection?

    Note: it detects the edges along the long green horizontal line, so there's at least 2 edges definitevely.

    Thanks for the tips.

    Martin

    Hey Martin,

    This may sound silly, but what happens if you scroll down to the following entry in your cluster? Currently, you can view information for your benefit '0' on the front panel. What happens if you are indexing at the edge '1' of your cluster and therefore see the information on the second edge. Is the cluster of empty when you look at the 'zero' edge? If it is, perhaps, the parameters of your step edge find are too strict and the step does not come back on a second advantage.

    If the problem persists, maybe post your vi sample and a sample picture will help clear things upward.

    I hope this helps!

  • Count (1) returns the null value in the Group of

    Hi the gems... Good afternoon...

    I read that the COUNT() function always returns 0 (zero) if there is no corresponding row in the table.

    The following code returns 0 as expected:
    SELECT COUNT(1) FROM book_table
                 WHERE client_id = 10009
                   AND book_id = 5465465
                   AND book_sub_id = 'gfdf'
                   AND amount = 78686
    But when I used the GROUP BY clause in the query, then he returned to nothing:
    SELECT COUNT(1) FROM book_table
                 WHERE client_id = 10009
                   AND book_id = 5465465
                   AND book_sub_id = 'gfdf'
                   AND amount = 78686
    group by client_id,book_id,book_sub_id,amount
    Why this is happening... Please suggest...

    When you use just rely on its own (and you must use count (*) not count (1) as the optimizer based on CSSTidy will re - write internally to count (*) anyway)... then you say you want a count of all rows.

    When you introduce the group by clause you say thay want returned a number of records within specific groups... but if there are no groups, he cannot give you a line for any group with its county equivalent, because there are no lines for the groups. With the grouping, you have must have at least 1 row per group to get an account for her.
