FMW: Portal Upgrade Advisor - video part 4 patch the Oracle Home "how to install Oracle Middleware 11 g Rel 1 portal and discoverer" should specify to use previous pfrd Oracle Home

NOTE: from 'build base Middleware of Oracle 11 g Architecture. "
Review of the videos for "How to install Oracle 11g Rel 1 portal Middleware and discoverer?"
Part 4 patch the Oracle home (04:57)
https://support.Oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show & type = ATT & ID = 1118681.1:PD11G_INSTALL_PT4 & inline = 1

The verbal and demo explanation does not use the original location/Oracle HOme of the previously
installed for the binary PFRD base.   It probably should.

In addition, for some steps to follow to patch binaries PFRD, I'd put it:

Step 4.  I am guessing that the patch will establish an another sub dir Disk1 and don't want to overwright
installation of the initial PFRD, therefore, moves the Group of hotfixes as follows.

CD/opt/web/install/PortalUpgradeAdvisor/pfrd
960 ls - ltr
Group of hotfixes mkdir 961
Group patches 962 mv p11060983_111140_LINUX.zip
Group patches 963 cd.
Unzip 964 *.

RE: of course, having unpacked the group created patches another subdirectory Disk1 with his own runInstaller
VNC gui:

I guess, all we are doing is patching of binary files, nothing should be running.
Maybe an environment set in same, as when we ran last the PFRD install, however.  There we / I had
run. / set_mid_clean after making sure the files property was oracle: oracle.

Yes, VNC gui and
/ opt/Web/Install/PortalUpgradeAdvisor/pfrd/Patchset/disk1
. / runInstaller

Here again, we select Install Software - is not configured
RE: Get the message again on this screen "installs the software only. After said is finished, use
config.sh at ORACLE bin directory to configure the working bodies of these components installed.

Specify the installation location.  Always to
Oracle Middleware homepage: / opt/oracle/Middleware
and
An Oracle home directory: as_2 # I bet it must be as_1 because that is where the initial PFRD install binary files has occurred.

NOTE: The summary of the Installation in the video screen escape the Oracle Home is the previous specified during the initial installation. That is to say. PFRD_Binaries.   I guess I should have named that instead of taking the default as_1. At least I would have to have done that.  Well.  Maybe this story might help the next guy.

Also

NOTE: The Installation screen is not "from" group of patches as in the video where it says
Install Oracle Portal, forms, reports, and discover the Group of hotfixes.

Hi Charlie
I'm a little confused by this feedback. Especially when you say that you see the option "install - do not configure. Should this option is visible only when you run the Basic 11.1.1.2 PFRD the software installer. The Group of hotfixes 11.1.1.4 has his own 'runInstaller'... and this will display what you see in the viewlet. You definitely run the installer from the directory of stage in the Group of hotfixes? (I'll do my own validation test - if I find something strange going on... I'll report.)

I now take the following action

1. I will put the Viewlet so it is clear that the Group of hotfixes is staged in a different place from the base 11.1.1.2 media
2. provide that nothing must be running (because at this point, no instance of 11 g of construction has been configured)
3. There's a "slippage" that illustrates the Middleware and Oracle Home entries in the screen "Location of Installation to specify" IE

Middleware homepage: / u01/alca_portal/middleware
Oracle home: PFRD_Binaries

However, you will see that this slide for 2 seconds (which is an error) and if you miss it probably.

Just FYI - the House of Oracle 11 g correction is in general the same procedure as patching a mid-layer House AS10g i.e

-You set the Oracle Home base using the installation of the basic software program
-You patch the Oracle home using the installation program of the Group of hotfixes

"To understand at the time where we upgrade repository portal.  In my opinion, who runs the configuration wizard PFRD is that fact for us.  I will go through the video.    And me who runs the IDM upgrades OID configuration wizard. »

PFRD Configuration Wizard does not upgrades the repository of the portal, it creates just a portal 11g AS Instance against the repository Portal 10g's existing. The Upgrade Wizard upgrades site two-step

1 put Update Wizard (option "upgrade intermediate level Instance") upgrades 11 g base instance configuration so that it matches the source portal AS10g instance configuration

2 Upgrade Wizard (option "Upgrade the repository in metadata schemas") upgrades the repository Portal 10 g.

It's a similar story for instant messaging, only the IM Upgrade Wizard upgrades the configuration file system and the GI database schemas in a go (IE there is no upgrade wizard option separated to "Upgrade the repository in metadata schemas")

I think that the Viewlet created the PFRD and IDM Upgrade Guides whether clear.

  • I want to switch from XP to 7, but the Upgrade Advisor does not work; How will I know if my computer can handle?

I'm worried that maybe I need to upgrade my computer before you upgrade to Windows 7, so I would really like to Upgrade Advisor to tell me what I need.  But whenever I try to run it, it just turns and turns and turns (I mean, more than two hours) without ever come up with anything.  So what I do now?

If you want to know if your computer with Windows XP will be able to handle Windows 7, check system requirements Windows 7 on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/system-requirements.

Compare with your own system, right-click on the icon for my computer and then click Properties.

As long as you an update from XP to 7, the only option you have is Custom installation so there is no sense to the current programs with Windows 7 compatibility check. The thing you should be concerned is the material part. Check the 3 main material that requires compatibility: CPU, RAM and disk space.

  • Upgrade Advisor omitted Windows 7 Professional

    Hello-

I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on a computer in Windows Vista Home Professional 32 - bit and the results noted the following:

(check mark)  Upgrade Options available: you can switch to 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate.

Question: why Windows 7 Professional is specifically omitted?  It is my favorite upgrade such that I can use the XP mode at the cheapest price upgrade.

    Thank you!

You can use an upgrade license to upgrade Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro, but it requires a Custom Installation.  Unfortunately, an In-Place-Upgrade HP Vista to Windows 7 Pro is not supported.

What you can do to maintain a path in place upgrade to Windows 7 Pro, this is to do an in-place-upgrade to Vista HP for Windows 7 HP, then upgrade Express Windows 7 HP Professional.  The cost is almost the same (a few dollars more).

The problem is a design with Vista Business error that caused a loss of functionality problem when switching from HP company.  Many VHP features are not in business, as the Media Center.  That fact goes VHP 7Pro a problem too.  Microsoft has corrected the error in Windows 7 by ensuring that there is no loss of functionality, and an in-place-upgrade is only supported when 7CV to 7Pro.

  • which is wrong with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?

I want to run Upgrade Advisor to check if I'm having problems with Windows 7 on my PC.
I guess I found my first problem...
When I run Upgrade Advisor, I get the following message:

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor could not reach the server from Microsoft for more compatibility information. You check the Internet or see if there is a new version of Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I am running Windows XP pro SP3, the firewall is disabled, windows Upgrade Advisor is the latest version just downloaded, internet works fine.

    Hello world

When Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor could not connect to the Microsoft server, it is usually a problem with the proxy.  Try a toggle or to pass to another via Internet Explorer (Tools-> Internet Options-> connections).  Upgrade Advisor does not support proxies that requires authentication, i.e. you must type your user name and password.

Upgrade Advisor saves some out of diagnosis in % temp%\wuadiagnostics.log.  Feel free to take a look at this file to see how the Upgrade Advisor exception is meet or send this file to * address email is removed from the privacy *, and we'll take a look at Microsoft.

    Hello

Yes, you can install reports only

Portal is necessary only if you want to use a server "secure reports" with Oracle Portal-Based Security

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E12839_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_verify005.htm

Discoverer is a completely independent product. Install only if you want to use.

  • FMW: Links Portal Upgrade Advisor to the page build Middleware of Oracle 11 g Architecture

Perhaps a link in the Advisor to each document for installation/upgrade is needed.   Would be very useful.  And, if the document refernence is not specific to the step, but it is more general in nature, then a shor comment indicating to view only the relevant sections of the document.   That, to me, would be the most valuable contribution.  Please ask for clarification if necessary.   The page I am referring here would be 'Building the Middleware of Oracle 11g Architecture basis'. Each of the steps listed there is extremely useful.   Also, small change to it would be great for it is according to put it as follows in the next video that Dan is putting together to address upgrade scenario.

And as mentioned in a previous debate. Would be really nice if we know exactly what is supposed to be running for each of these steps.  Not so much after we're done, but how to start.  Also, what environment should be set to.

Example: Ensure that portal db, earphone, IDM and former/current levels are rising and runing and environment is set for new construction/PFRD area (where are the new binaries) for the portal 11g Upgrade Wizard.

Example: Ensure that db, listener, old idm level runs and defined environment to the new layer IDM of IDM Upgrade Wizard.

NOTE: These are examples only and may be wrong, but (and please let me know if so)... There you have something to run with.

FYI... So I made changes at the stage 'The base Middleware of Oracle 11g Architecture site'... so we have documentation References inline + some additional details added. When you find the time, take a look and let me know if the changes are for the clearest reading / understanding of the build process.

NOTES about the Upgrade Advisor in
Oracle® Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle WebLogic Server 11 g Release 1 (10.3.4) Part Number E14142-05

Looks like there may be a confused statement in Chapter 2 on «jdk previosly» installed

"A JRE is packaged in the 32-bit Windows and x 86 Linux installation programs"

    Chapter 2:

Before you start the installation program
Before starting Setup, verify the following information:

If you install the software in graphics mode on a UNIX or Linux machine, you must set the DISPLAY environment variable before you run the installation program.
If you use an installer of the synchro .bin file, replace JAVA_HOME with the installation of the JDK supported location you have installed for your platform.

    ...

    [Then goes on to say]

    Functions of the base directory

The directories in the home directory of Middleware vary according to the installation program you use and the products that you have selected for installation.
For example, WebLogic Server Setup creates the directories and files listed in the table below if you have selected all the components for installation.

Table 2-4 Directory Description for Middleware House

    Directory or file Description

    JDKVersion

This directory contains the software for the JDK from Sun, if it is installed with your software. The JDK provides the environment to run Java (JRE) and tools for compiling and debugging Java applications.

I downloaded the windows Upgrade Advisor 7, I ran the program. 3 mistakes come in saying I have the version of the HP Media Smart DVD, HP MediaSmart Music/video/Photo, HP Media TV program

I click on him "click here to get a compatiable version," programs.

    1. I click on HP Media Smart DVD, it takes me to a page where it wants me to download a version for HP touchsmart... but I do not have an HP smart touch, I a dv6 (wrong product).

    2. I click on the HP MediaSmart Music/video/Photo, which brings me to random about the software with no upgrade or products page

    3. I click on th HP Media TV, I see that he wants me to download an older version of the program.

so I download, install, restart my computer, run the Upgrade Advisor, hoping to see that there are 2 errors, but NO, the HP mediaSmart TV said it must still be fixed... which I just did again!

Basically the first link go to a page of bad product, and the second link sent me to a random page that talks about program and it does not recognize that I just fixed one of the questions that he told me to fix.

Can you guys help out me?

What are the program version compatiability of HP Media Smart DVD, HP MediaSmart Music/video/Photo, HP Media TV, which will allow me to level to windows 7 safely?

    Hello

Windows 7 upgrade advisor is not so smart as you think. It showes sometimes bad results.

According to this document from HP to down:

    The upgrade to Windows 7

    Question:

Unable to uninstall HP MediaSmart DVD in Windows 7.

    Fix or workaround:

Uninstall MediaSmart DVD before the upgrade to Windows 7. After the upgrade to Windows 7, install the compatible version Windows 7 HP MediaSmart DVD the DVD Upgrade Wizard at level HP or www.hp.com/support .

Which means then you just uninstall HP MediaSmart DVD before upgrade.

When you're after update just install all of the latest software for MediaSmart and everything should be ok.
