Free space by removing old versions of windows

Unfortunately, I've been forced to re - install windows vista a couple of times and it seems that the computer keeps older versions and I ran out of memory. How can I delete older versions.

"High memory" is an old term is no longer used for hard drive space.

'Memory' now refers to RAM, to avoid confusion.

More information is required about the way in which you reinstalled Vista

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows7/how-do-I-remove-the-Windows-old-folder

The fact of the application above.

If this isn't the case, I suggest a clean install of Custom, wiping the previous version/s.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  • Message of support HP _re old version of windows

I managed enhanced W8 to 8.1 W on my new HP Pavilion Touchsmart 15 laptop PC. Now I'm in a quandry on a message that appears in the HP Support Assistant. What what can make this old version of windows be on my C drive? I certainly don't want to delete anything to do with the W8?

    The message:

"When you upgraded from a previous version of windows the previous version of windows has been saved in the folder C:\Windows.old. According to the number of programs and data files that exist on your previous versions of windows, this folder is very wide. HP recommends to copy all the files old you want on your new version and delete windows.old to free disk space.

To remove this recommendation from HP Support Assistant results press the reporter or ignore the button in the HP Support Assistant"

What should I do about this message. I don't want to be wrong?

    Thank you

    Hello

To please not touch D: and you have a lot of space on C: Windows.old folder in this case could be about 20 GB.

  • Can I recover my old version of windows on the computer and use it on my old laptop?

    Original title: windows 8.

Last year, I bought a new desktop computer Acer with windows 8 and installed my windows professional 8.1 on it!

My question is! can I recover my old version of windows on the computer and use it on my old laptop because it was purchased with this PC AND how I to get it back?

I am braking the rules by doing this? the original key was included with the purchase of my new Acer and I should be able to pick it up and install it on another device?

If I can't, I'll have to buy a new one to upgrade my old windows laptop 7. I'm trying to save money! That's why I ask this question.

    Roger

No, you cannot transfer the original license that is pre-installed on your Acer, it relates to it because it is an OEM license.

The OEM of Windows 8 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

  • Can I safely remove old security updates Windows

I have Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. I checked my system under ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS and I have a lot of updates:

Security updates and the updates for Microsoft Office 2007 products
Security updates and updates for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8
Security updates and updates for Microsoft Windows XP
Security updates and the updates for Windows Media Center Edition 2005
    Various fixes
Old Service Pack updates (Windows XP, Office, etc.).

My Questions: Because they use a lot of space, one of these files are eliminated using Add / REMOVE PROGRAMS ? They don't are not already installed or removing them would make them not secure against threats that they were supposed to challenge?

    Thank you.

I doubt they use all that much space (compared to your stuff) - and if you run lack of space - it is a different matter. a not better resolved by removing the updates/patches.  :-)

Do not delete those using Add / Remove programs.  That would be, at best, careless.  To uninstall, so that updates are, do not remove the updates (updates would be removed automatically when you remove the product that they fixed.)

Want to clean and to get that machine works best?  Here are a few suggestions that * is * help.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can remove the uninstall files for patches that installed Windows XP...

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing you pouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

If you want, come back and let us know a bit more information on your system - particularly the brand / model of the system, you have - and maybe someone here can guide you to the place s x of law to this end.  This isn't 100% necessary - but I'd be willing to bet that you would gain some performance and features in making this part.

  • should I remove old version of firefox s more when new versions have been downloaded

I'm not aware of a problem, I'm just trying to understand the revisions and if I need to keep the old versions in order to run the firefox

It is not necessary to uninstall anything, especially since you are not using a version 4beta. And there are serious risks of losing important data that you store if you do not remove older versions with a lot of attention.

If you decide that you don't like 4.0, you can easily go back and reinstall 3.6 without any problems (and without the risk of data loss).

A point, however: If you're a favorite demon like me, it's really a good idea to save your bookmarks before you make any changes to firefox. I'm so obsessive that I have back up constantly (and I do not rely on the automatic bookmark backup process of FF), but that's just me being paranoid to learn the hard way very long.
