Free space capacity, put into service,

Hello

I know that this has also been discussed in other threads, but still things are not clear to me.

I store data with space set aside almost two times more capacity and about 30 GB of free.

I understand that space put into service can be more if I have a provisioning, but this isn't the case. Thick, all my machines are put into service.
The next thing are snapshots. I have pictures so probably that's why I put into service space more than my abilities.

What don't get me, is how I still get free space... I mean that snapshots take up real space. If I have a 50 GB HD a snapshot 1 50 GB is created. So, normally, in my opinion, I would actually have 100 GB of storage used and a - Let's say - 60 GB datastore which means I have no available space...

I miss something here?

A snapshot in VMware products contains only deltas, i.e. becomes the parent disk. A snapshot starts with a small file and develops over time. Since it can grow to the size of the virtual disk that is put into service, the maximum size is added to the space put into service that appears in the summary virtual machines.

Just a quick comment for "all snapshots are by default thin stocked... ». It's not exactly how it is. Provisioning is a feature of system files and used only for disks virtual base. Snapshots use a fragmented, file format which consists of blocks of metadata database and checked.

  • Differences in space put into service

Hi, I'm relatively new to VMware and I encounter some difficulties to understand how funded space works in what I see several different numbers listed for the same VM that differ considerably.

I'm trying to create some new VM that have the same characteristics as our production VM essentially; I'll use the same amount of cores, memory and hard disk space.  What I can't understand, is what has been actually put into service to these servers when they were created.

When looking at the summary page of the virtual machine display under storage 402,74 GB provisioned resources but when I go in the settings of the virtual machine and watch the virtual disk parameters, it displays 100 GB as the size provisioned with a lazy kind of thickness to zero (it is grayed out).  If I connect on the client Windows that is running and watch the disk it shows 107 GB total capacity.

Why a disc thick provisioned would type with 100 GB located in the VM settings show 402 GB set up during the search to the resources under the Summary tab?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, each snapshot can consume the same amount of space as the basic disk.

  • VMWare esxi 5.5 - is possible to shrink a thick disk hard put into service?

    Hey guys

Recently, I have increased the size of the hard drive to one of my VM to 300 GB drives when I only need 200GB.

The player is supplied thickness. Memory I don't think that you can reduce a thick disc put into service from the client VMWare 5.5.

So my question is, is there another way I can reduce this hard drive stocked thickness so I can recover unused space?

    Kind regards

    Aaron

Yes, technically, if you have a 300 GB windows volume supported by a thick hard of 300 GB you can do the following:

    1. Defragment system files comments with Raxco Disk defrag or similar, as the use of the option consolidate free space
    2. Try and make sure that a good number costs blocks by the end of the partition (options defrag boot use pagefile and $mft etc.)
    3. Reduce the 200 GB partition
    4. Storage vmotion virtual machine and set the destination thin format

This hard never will now have more than 200 GB unless the windows partition is cultivated but the hard remains thin. Otherwise, vmware standalone converter or vmkfstools way to go. If prefer vmkfstools.

  • Put into service devices (EX60, etc.) added as TMS systems

Two questions based on this topic.

    1. I noticed when I configured my EX60 with our VCS that everything has worked out perfectly well.  However, I would like to add also the system in TMS as a system that gets watched, not managed as such by TMS.  I noticed that there is a checkbox in the settings called 'Set up', preventing MSDS to alter the configuration of the parameters on the codec and switching TMS to be VCS.  However, I have noticed once that I added it in TMS after it has been supplied by VCS, TMS has changed the settings of commissioning until I could check the put option in service in the page settings of TMS of the codec.  Y at - it a good way or numbered steps to add a codec in TMS that will eventually be put into service in VCS?
    2. How someone handles directories within TMS, if one has a source of directory-based endpoints in a folder where the aircraft put into service, and you have the directory based on the configuration directory.  How would he keep the system appear twice?  Right now the directory provsioning side two H.323/SIP as @domaine, while settings for H.323 and SIP is @domaine.  Are there two entries because it is listed in the telephone directory in two different places, or the H.323 entrance is different?

So, basically, what is the preferred method of deployment when provisioing these devices with the VCS and wanting to be able of have registered them in TMS for all purposes the user would like.  Because obviously the two can be made, do not know the best way to go about it.

    Hi Patrick

1: I tested the first scenario in two ways, adding the endpoint to the TMS and then provision it and purge, available and add it again.

None of these facts, the box automatically ticked but adding the system first, gave the time check box so that the parameters of TMS is not applied. I guess it's the best way to do at the moment.

2: as you know, when the system is put into operation it is associated with the user in the TMSPE directory, FindMe would be the answer here and then choose to not import the "peripheral" in the provisioning directory to keep only the URI FindMe. You want to configure the EX with a model of the device: [email protected] / * /

The end point once added to TMS will appear in the "All systems" directory, which is an effect that you get when you add the system put in service to TMS. But the effect is neutralized by FindMe when you are not importing the user devices in the configuration directory.

  • How to upgrade the form for organizations put into service?

    Hello

I have a similar problem, as indicated here IOM - provided users with versions of form different resources

But I need to update the form for organizations. I added 3 custom to your UD_ADOU attributes and this form is visible to the new accounts set up. Old accounts ORG provisioned see attributes form the only version 0.

So I tried to use FVC utility to update these accounts of Organization put into service, but it does not work.

    Here are my properties file:

    $ cat fvc.properties

    ResourceObject; OU AD

    FormName; UD_ADOU

    FromVersion; 0

    /ToVersion; AdOUForm02

    Parent; UD_ADOU_DEPARTMENTCODE; N/A

    Parent; UD_ADOU_ORGUNITTYPE; Department

    Parent; UD_ADOU_MANAGER; '' cn = manager01, ou = users, dc = adroot, dc = local"

I think it works for the only user accounts (see doc: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27559_01/admin.1112/e27149/formver.htm#CCHCBDBJ )

My question is, who can update a form for organizations put into service? Is it possible to update the configured accounts of organizations by FVC utility? If so, how?

    Thank you

    Milan

OK I found the solution and I found a bug in the IOM probably.

    The main tables are SDK and UD_ADOU;

The SDK table contains information about the last active version of the form... org

The UD_ADOU table contains all the forms (supplied) and their version of the form that uses the account provisioned.

So I used the following SQL command to update the version of IOM 11.1.2.1 forms:

    Update UD_ADOU set UD_ADOU_VERSION =

    (select SDK_ACTIVE_VERSION in the SDK where SDK_NAME = 'UD_ADOU');

    commit;

In IOM 11.1.2.2.x I started the work of the "upgrade" form, but as I said, after this i see new attributes in the form of commissioning Org, but when I change the data, these data are not configured for the announcement.

Then I checked the SDK and UD_ADOU tables and I found in the SDK table active the last version of the East ADOU 1.  BUT! in the UD_ADOU table, all records have UD_ADOU_VERSION = 7! (Value 7 is the number of the line of the record with the SDK_NAME = "UD_ADOU").  Is this a bug?

I changed all these archives to the value 1.

    Update UD_ADOU set UD_ADOU_VERSION = 1;

    commit;

And now, also commissioning works well in IOM 11.1.2.2.x

  • How can I increase size disc put into service?

    Hello

I'm looking for solutions on how to increase the size of the disc put into service? I've deleted all my snapshot and then I could increase to 24 GB to 31 GB (screenshot) then I did the new snapshot, it shows the new size, 31GB, but when I recompose a VM, I still only 23 GB and no new size, 31 GB, where could be the problem? Thank you

    Hello

You must go to your guest operating system.

Open in windows Disk Manager, a new analysis of the disk and you can see the full size. After that, you will still grow your C: partition. But windows 7 should be able to do during the race.

  • Put into service space greater than capacity

    Hello community,

We made use of the new functionality of thin disks in Lab Manager 4.0.1 to combat the problems of low disk space. So I use something to convert existing VMDK of VM who were thick as in directories labmanager to thin disks that I had by another poster of the forum (see below).

    -

1 turn the original hard thick in a thin

    vmkfstools-i ' 051750-VE32EN-SJ-0 - 0.vmdk ' d slim "thin051750-VE32EN-SJ-0 - 0.vmdk.

    2. move the original hard file from the road.

    vmkfstools EI ' 051750-VE32EN-SJ-0 - 0.vmdk ""orig-051750-VE32EN-SJ-0-0.vmdk ".

    3. move the new thin hard in place

    vmkfstools EI "thin051750-VE32EN-SJ-0 - 0.vmdk" "051750-VE32EN-SJ-0 - 0.vmdk.

It is best to verify that the virtual machine works before you delete the original files *. After having checked that the VM lights, remove the VMDK origin as follows:

    vmkfstools - U 'orig-051750-VE32EN-SJ-0-0.vmdk '.

Using the above procedure, I was able to free up a lot of space on my lun. What I've noticed is that my space funded is now higher than my ability (see photo). Should I worry about this?

    antize,

the calculation becomes pretty hard after that point.

If all VMs on a given LUN models are of Lab Manager, then you should only be concerned about the real available space.

This is because even if you deploy a model, it's going to be a disk of delta on top of the mother of thin disk.

VS real provisioned is more 'real' when you work outside the Lab Manager environment, because the thin disks will evolve to use and fill the space.  In the laboratory Manager, we use deltas to note the differences in the virtual machine in a separate file.

    Kind regards

    Welcome to the community,

Provisioning for the virtual disks that you have either used end, or that one (or more) of the virtual machines have Active snapshots are two reasons I could think.

  • Adjust the space put into service for AppStack?

I hope that's not too obvious, but I'm not clear on how to adjust the storage provisioned that takes an AppStack. When you create an accessible writable volume, the system asks the storage space that you want to configure for this. AppStacks do not, and seem to be defaulting to 20 GB in my 2.10 environment assessment. Only this value from the template.vmdk assigned in Config > storage for AppStacks? I don't see anything in the center of doc to 2.10 on create or adjust the existing template and Adobe Reader just doesn't have much wiggle room! =)

Any help appreciated - thanks in advance!

I think a filter to get, maybe all the VM which appear as an RDM or shared vmdk and filter those out of the collection of Get - VM.

Then add those together separately, combining the resemblance of the name of file maybe?  If you can run this Script of RDM, then I can see what the data might look like to adjust.  I have no RDM to play with on my end, unfortunately, all NFS these days.

  • What happens when the space used hits space put into service?

I work for the first time with VMWare software and everything while browsing the virtual machines, I saw that the space used was about to hit the space provided. I was doing some research on the definition of these 2 and I don't get a solid and reliable definition. Does anyone can say exactly what they are and explain what happens when the space used hits the space provided?

    Thank you

Welcome to the community - Itsounds like your virtual drive are configured as thin provisioned - their size increases as disk space is consumed - when you hit provisioned used equal is a machine virtual will be error if it tries to use multiple disks FEPs - usually with a disk space error output - your options are to add more data stores and move virtual machines to the new data store.

  • Put into service space does not add

I have a virtual machine with a 275 GB drive. I checked the directory of the virtual machine and added to them and with snapshots, deltas and everything else, is about 280 GB. However, when I check space configured in vCenter he shows 552GB. How is this show? Someone knows whence this number?

    Thank you

    Scott

    2 x disk storage (due allowance for snapshots) + memory and overhead... Up to 275 x 2 + RAM = 552 ~ GB

If delete you the snapshots (this should be temporary anyway) then your provisioned use will be reduced to approximately 277GB

  • Machine virtual hard disk (virtual disk) of the upper size limit put into service

Hi there, so I'm trying to create a hard drive or a virtual disk in a Virtual Machine in order to configure the virtual machine as a file server. The data store is a Promise VTrak M610P and I installed the vtrak as a type of VMFS5 5,46 TB of space (4 2 hard disks to each RAID 5). In the virtual machine, I added a hard drive and selected the store data vtrak and tried to set the provisioned to 5.46 TB size and type thick lazy disposition to zero, but I get an error of DiskCapControl with the range values. I changed the size set in service and 4 TB and he accepted the new hard drive. I can't find anything on the actual limit on the creation of hard disk in a virtual computer.

    I'm running a server Supermicro X7DAL-E with VMware ESXi 5.5 U2.

Any ideas would be useful. Thank you.

I forgot I asked a similar question on a different section of the forum (shame on me), but I found a solution. Please see the following post Re: SMB access using esxi host and manage with MS server 2008 storage

Here's what I wrote on the link above:

So it turns out that there seems to be something wrong with vClient when you add a hard disk (virtual disk) to a virtual machine of size greater than 4 TB. Article VMware KB: value of range error message when you add more than 4 TB capacity discs in vSphere Client describes this if you encounter this problem, add the hard drive via vSphere CLI, CLI power or vmkfstools. So this seems to be a known issue on vClient. What I ended up doing was using vClient, creation of hard disk, adding to the virtual machine (size of the hard drive is to 5.45) and when I would get the error message on the DiskCapControl out of reach, I would just click OK and then finalize the creation of the hard drive on the virtual machine. Once the process is complete, I selected the virtual machine and noticed that he indeed added a new HDD size 5.45 TB even if he's complained about it. I pulled to the top of the virtual machine with windows server 2008 R2 installed and was able to create a new disk under windows and set it up as a shared drive on the network. Looks like vClient must be updated by VMware and correct this bug, if it's a bug that I think. Thank you for the help vervoort!

  • Put into service takes more than 15 minutes. Stop is worse. It hangs at "closing Windows" regardless of the programs that I run is extremely slowly.

Original title: start & close problem. Slow response

My PC is running Window XP SP2. I did all the updates.

Recently commissioning takes more than 15 minutes. Stop is worse. It hangs at the "closing Windows.
Whatever programs that I run is extremely slow.
I ran virus scan, microsoft fixed, but the problem persists.

Well, I think you don't like it, but the first thing to do is to eliminate by using their special tools Norton Uninstall program:

    https://www-secure.Symantec.com/Norton-support/JSP/help-solutions.jsp?LG=English&CT=United+States&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&PVID=f-home

Now, you might think I be without protection and get some bad things on my computer, but you just want to see how things are going without it.  Just don't visit WWW stupid or silly sites, where you can pick up some virus or malware and you can always install a new copy, but I think it's a big headache for you now.

It might be out of date, too many options of protection installed, etc.  More protection is not always better, and you will pay for it in the performance of the system with the more stuff you add.

Then when Norton is gone, proceed as follows:

No matter what you use for malware protection, follow these steps:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs at:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
Restart your computer and solve the outstanding issues.

Consider instead of Microsoft Security Essentials or Norton - he did a good job.

We must eliminate what can cause problems, so I'd start with Norton.  You can put it back later if you want, but you need to see how things are going without it.  Moving things to a good operating system that you are happy with first.

Eliminate potential problems one at a time and test thing out... one thing at a time.

Symantec/Norton is you biggest problem right now.

    Check your NVIDIA drivers:

I use the NVIDIA site and let scan them online take a look at your video system and see what he suggests for drivers and consider their analysis if they offer a new driver.

It is recommended to run the scan NVIDIA with Internet Explorer.

Here is the address of the NVIDIA page:
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/Prescan.aspx?lang=en-us

Read the instructions, and then click the DRIVERS GRAPHICS button to start scan and answered in the affirmative, if asked to install the plugin required to run the NVIDIA scan.

    Get rid of Norton.
