From vCenter on a different host then power off

Hello

I 4 4.1 esx hosts managed with 1 VC running on 1 of these hosts.

I upgraded this environment with 4 new guests esx 4.1 (more memory etc.), but the cpu options are not the same, so I can't vmotion guests who are running on it. I have to turn off all the customers and restart just on new hosts. I can handle this with VC, but how I can restart the VC, I have to turn off the comments and normally I could migratie, but since this is the Victoria Cross itself, I'm confused how to on this subject properly, any suggestions?

It power off.

go to the command of the host line

Register VM

power on

I use VUM patch my ESX host that requires that the guests of had no VM and be in maintenance mode.

The problem: How can I migrate my virtual vCenter server to my other host in order to set the host mode of maintenance and patch 1 (requires a vCenter runs).

My thought: two guests can see the LUNS for the vCenter server. I think I can go into host 1, power off the virtual machine and then remove from the inventory. Then, I'm going to host 2, browse the store of data LUN and ADD it to its inventory. Is this correct? If so, what file in the data store can I connect to the host (vmx, vmdk, etc.)

    Thank you.

Yes, it will work, but you will need to attach the base to a host at a time line.  You would add to inventory the .vmx

    Or use the command line

No there is no command of power off of the SAA. Just make sure that the config has been recorded, then power off with the power switch.

  • VCenter Server virtual to the different host

I have a little a conundrum.  I forgot to set up a cluster in Vcenter before creating my virtual servers, including my Vcenter Server virtual machine.

What I do is move my Vcenter server to a host (not in the cluster) to another computer (host in the cluster).  I am sure that if I try to use VMotion to do weird things since using Vmotion the VCenter Server virtual I lose the connection with Vcenter for the transfer and the operation fails.

I think I should stop Vcenter and then remove it manually from one host and importing it into another host in the cluster, but I don't know how to do this.

What is the best (and safest) way to Edifier?

No vmotion will work as long as the hosts are configured approriately and are part of the same data - center

  • Host disconnected from Vcenter. cannot restart both agents

    Hello

    Following this thread: http://communities.VMware.com/message/1993369#1993369

After 1:30 the host where the rescan HBAS was issued, became disconnected from Vcenter.

I tried to restart the agent from the console, but he was hanged.

I happened to have logged on esx, so I stopped the agents and restarted, but it hung for 1 / 2 h from "usbsarbitrator." I left.

Looks like I need to restart the server, but I have the feeling that all the virtual machine running (OK for now) on this topic will be off and restarts automatically via DRS at best or not at all, if for some reason any DRS does not work (because of the issue of the host).

To make matter worse, vcenter is running on this host at the moment.

Is there a way to 'reconnect' vcenter to host this way can I vmotion all the VM on it before restarting the host?

    Thanks in advance

Is you are using ESXi version connect the host using putty and run below command

    restart the /sbin/services.sh

  • How to migrate from vCenter as virtual machine to another host without vMotion running

We organize ESX 3.5 hosts. I've already updated our vCenter VM to 4.0U1. We have not the vMotion Installer yet (but are licensed for her). What is the appropriate way for migrating the vCenter VM to another host without vMotion, so I can upgrade the host the vCenter VM is running on? I have examined all the documents and messages, I could find, but don't have not seen this addressed.

You must turn off the virtual machine.

Copy the files (if are not on a shared data store).

Save the vmx file in the new ESX (with browser data store).

    Turn on the virtual machine.

  • vCenter 6 web gui - host isolation response

    Hello

I was looking at the option of isolation of host and then noticed that he not there no "leave it on" option on vcenter 6 web gui (version 6.0.0 2656761). However, "leave it on" option is still available on the client. As you can see from the screenshots, I chose the option "leave on" on the heavy and used customer "turn off and restart the virtual machines ' option on web gui.

I really appreciate if someone provides the details to clarify my confusion because I'm not sure what settings will apply in case of isolation of the host.

    Thank you

AFAIK the "leave it powered on" in c# client is now called as "Disabled" in the Web Client, which means nothing do, don't react not if the host gets isolated.

You say that you set the value "leave powered we" in c# client and then when you check the settings for the cluster in the Web Client, it displays "Power Off and restart VM?

If so, no refreshing or reconnect to the web client result by displaying "Disabled" in the web client?

    I hope this helps.

  • Migrate from vCenter to a cluster of a nonclustered Member

Work on a new environment and I'm stuck with something sorta here. I have 3 guests, 2 are new material (r.620) and 1 is more old (1950). The 1950s was presented today, the R620s have been about 2 weeks now.

Now that the 1950's the mix so I created a new EVC cluster limited to Penryn, r.620 1950 and one are in the cluster. I want the other r.620 in the cluster, BUT my vCenter is running on it. Cannot migrate the vCenter for memebers cluster because it is exposed to the extensions of the processor beyond the limit of Penryn from the pole...

A little lost on what I can do here? Is there a 'stop invited, migrate to host X, boot prompt' type function I can use?

Assuming you are using a shared storage accessible from all hosts, vCenter Server VM power off, remove it inventory of the current host by connecting it directly to the host (using the vSphere client), and then connect to the host of the 'target', add the server vCenter back to inventory and turn it on.

  • Flight hover text on my site by default, ignoring my HTML mouseover. Two different hosts show the same bug. (Chrome showed same on one host.)

My hover/mouseover stylesheet correctly texts show when < my custom > .css is local disk (offline), but when online, a default value "CTRL + R improves the quality of this image...". "watch instead, presumably from the browser. Sometimes a test shows my stationary custom text on the FIRST event mousover ONLY, then the default value is used.

This behavior showed also on Crome before I banished it. (Chrome's default text was identical) Support at my usual webhost has been looking at the problem for two weeks without result. Today I loaded the same code to a different host organization (under http://waggledance.us) and I'm seeing the same default behavior, including an occurrence of the "first time okay" observation.
I note there is a default "Main.css" on that second server, which makes me ask whether a default .css is getting slammed on my user after <my-custom>.css serves (on both hosts??).

  • Why is no longer a faster network between two different hosts?

    Hello community!

I need help in this mystery.

I have three computers different virtual, all of them with e1000 (also I tried all VMs with vmxnet3) and the latest vmware tools.

Two of this mV, are in the same physical host (ESXi 5.5.0 2068190). Call for example: VM - 1A & VM - 2A

Another virtual machine, is in another physical host (ESXi 5.5.0 2068190). Call VM-1 b

Both ESXi hosts are connected with two cards 10 Gbit network with load Balancing: "From hash IP route" and detection: "link status only.

Traffic Shaping is disabled in all Ports.

The environment is very clean, and we have more VMs that can disrupt the test (or inappreciable).

    VM - 1a: 10.12.50.201 - physical host ESX - A

    VM - 2A: 10.12.50.202 - physical host ESX - A

    VM-1 b: 10.12.50.200 - physical host ESX - B

Why I don't see better network speed reference, when two virtual machines send something two physical host is different than when the two virtual machines are in the same physical host?

It is not a question of "iperf", I used the other test with CPS and I had the same speed.

    Thank you very much!!!

Have you tried to move your VM on different hosts to the same host?

    Your names of:

    VM - 1 a host has

    -VM-1 b on Hots B

    ToDo

Now move VM-1B for A Host and repeat the test (two virtual machines on the same host). What happens now to the speed?

    Check

-How is the CPU usage during the test we Host-A, if you have 2 virtual machines on this host?

-What is your ratio of P2V CPU? (overprovisioning?)

    What it could be

-Host doesn't have enough CPU power to serve the two virtual machines (or over-provision P2V related problem). But for me no sense if I see your config server with 16cores.

-It is not a host but a related problem of VM (perhaps it depends on the VM - A2). Makes the most sense for me (your test is to check)

  • segregation of VM on different hosts

I'm new to vmware releatively, but I am interested in the design of fault tolerance and what are the specific virtual servers that ensure on different hosts. For example in small installations if you had 2 DCs on a single host then who is it a single point of failure in the AD services? Outside of DC, what other specific types of servers/server roles warrant you are on different hosts? Or with VMWARE HA do you not need to worry as much as if his is attached to a cluster virtual machine must be picked up by another host if the host fails, so segregation is not so much a concern?

    Hey cb122,

Welcome to the community and Vmware,

First good HA is very different then FT.  HA leans on the hosts and makes sure that all your cluster hosts are running and the computer virtual is running.  If a host fails HA reviews cela and turns on all the VMS running on the host failed on another host in the cluster.  Your VM will see this as an unexpected shutdown.  Although short, this may take a few minutes for all your VMS is to start again based on what was running on the failed host.

Fault tolerance is basically HA on stariods and what it does is eliminate this short stop breakdown or unexecpted on the host failure.  But that comes at a high cost, reduced capacity, there are a number of requirements to work ect ect, look under FT for more information.  FT back more now is your only allowed to have 1vCPU IP protected VM, which kind of shoot it in the foot because most systems requiring such high availability require more vCPU.   However how FT works in summary is this: you select FT on a virtual machine, and then creates a snapshot of the virtual machine and it works on a different host.  Any changes made to the virtual machine are always synchronized lived with his shot.  If the failure of a host that is running your VM, the VM snapshot is then invited to production and immediately resumed all of its features, it generates on an another snapshot on another host in the cluster to its protection.

Awenser your question each environment is different, but most of the time a cluster of 3 + host Vmware will protect you for most, but in your case I would put a rule of DRS in to divide your virtual DC 2 as if both are on the same host and that host fails, you will lose all AD and probably DNS as most people run these 2 services together.  This could be problmatic to your environment.

Aside from that, I would be just shared any VM that could not handle all seen down at the same time, if a failure of the host.  A good example of this would be a web server farm.  Say, you have 4 IIS servers in a web farm, you do not want to run all 4 on the single host as if that host fails your website goes down for 2 to 4 minutes until these web servers would start up on a new host.  In this case, you could create a ruleset DRS to keep 2 webservers on a host and 2 on the other.

    I hope this helps.

  • Migrating Forms 10g GR 11, 2 different host

    Hi all

I'm Migrating Forms 10 g to 11 GR 2. I read a document for upgrading forms 10g to 11 GR 2, but there is no comment about the different host upgrade.

Also, there is only one way for the upgrade. Who is using "upgrade wizard".

    Currently, here is my situation.

    1. I use forms 10g now on the server A.
    2. I installed 11 GR 2 forms on server B. It works well.
    3. There are a few files of forms compiled on ServerA.
    4. I want to migrate these forms and the configuration files in the server A to Server B.

If I can't use "upgrade wizard", I just copy the configuration files two server (formsweb.cfg and default.env) and paste the B server configuration files. But I think that it is not good idea to migrate.

Is there something else easy way and security for the upgrade.

    Please answer to me thanks!

Let me start with the urgent comment: do NOT copy the configuration of earlier versions and drop them in the new environment. It's a bad idea for many reasons.  The most obvious is because new version has new settings and changes, some of which are required.

I hope that, in your environment to version 10 you does not alter the [default] section of formsweb.cfg.  If this is the case, then you can easily copy your sections in the file of the new version.  However, before you do anything like that, make sure that you stop the Server Admin v11 and Managed Server (WLS_FORMS).  Don't try to do it with them running or your changes likely will have lost to ignored.  The default.env should be similar.  You can replace the one-for-one entries, but do not replace the entries found in the file.  Thus, for example, you can copy your old FORMS_PATH and drop it into the new file.  Comment out the existing and use your instead.  And so on.

OK, we can all calm down now.

The next thing to address is this statement "...". compiled form files on server A... ».  You can also copy forms of update modules / generated from one version to the other.  You need to rebuild 'X' (fmx, mmx, plx) of files in the new environment, using the new compiler.

As for using the upgrade wizard, there are some limitations to use, needing to be on the same machine.  However, despite everything, my recommendation is that not use you it anyway.  In most cases, you will have more success and much easier to maintain the environment if you do things manually.  AU is especially useful when you have significant customizations and complex throughout the battery (SST, Web Cache, forms, reports, etc.).  For typical configuration changes, manually create the new that's going to be the way to go.  It will give you also a chance to clean by removing changes made previously which are no longer needed.

  • How to create disk shared across virtual machines on different hosts

    Hello

We implement Oracle RAC on two virtual machines, one on each of the two armies for redundancy. For our installation:

    • The two ESXi hosts two SAN access a logical unit number.
    • Two virtual machines on the hosts must have access to a single virtual disk on this LUN (or unit number logic itself) at the same time.

    We tried the following:

    • Creation of a data store associated with the LUN, and then creating a new hard drive on each virtual machine using the same virtual disk on the data store. This operation failed because as soon as a virtual computer runs, the other virtual computer cannot run since the first has a lock on the file from the disk.
    • Creation of a new hard drive on the virtual machine through RDM. This operation failed because only the first virtual machine has this option of disc. Once the ROW has been assigned to the LUN, the other virtual computer cannot create its own RDM for the LUN.

I'm learning just VMware so I can miss a fundamental method to accomplish this, or perhaps, it is not possible at all. You know a way to create the installer I described?

    Welcome to the community,

I can not specifically help with the Oracle RAC, however, I would recommend that you take a look at MSCS documentation for how to configure shared disks. There is a difference in the way in which you have installed the VM, for example all VMs on an ESXi host or on different hosts. Please keep in mind that MSCS is a cluster without sharing, which means that only one node at a time has access to a shared virtual disc/RDM.
