Get a warning message but only on Safari, said financial and personal data at risk, call 888-247-83 *; has me locked out Safari

I am new to this community and tech challenged so that it may seem this way - my MacBook Pro, OS 10.7.5, bought used a few years ago. It becomes more and more slow. Tonight, I got a screen that has locked me out of Safari. He says that it s a 'critical security warning. Your Mac may be infected with a serious on this system attack, like your IP address can be accessed from two different places at the same time. A suspicious connection might be trying to access your Logins, Banking details & tracking of your Internet business.

Please contact Support Mac team immediately on + 1-888-247-83 * (TOLL-FREE) and provide the error code 'so forth and so... it went on and on. The news quoted has been copied exactly as written and I wanted to see why it's coming on Safari and why it was closed out.

Is it completely a hoax? I am, as I said, tech challenged. Please help me get this on my computer screen in Safari. Thank you very much!!!

It's a scam. Choose force quit from the Apple menu, close Safari and then run it with the SHIFT key. If the message reappears, disconnect the computer from the Internet and close the tab Popup came.
