  Ran the Scan, the system is secure.

  I was able to bypass stubborn files to transfer them to a flash drive and copy them to another folder.  I was then able to access.  Somehow I messed up the permissions in the previous transfers of old machines and OS.

• Why is - LR 5.7.1 is locking up my Win 7, 64 bit computer entirely?

  I can no longer use LR because whenever I try to boot, it is inadmissible.  I was able to start the Task Manager once and he showed that CPU is zero and the memory is 10 GB (out of 24) and LR is inadmissible.  But in a few minutes the Manager of tasks and other programs I may be running are also inadmissible, including the Start button.  I have to use the physical reset button.

  I thought that maybe it was related to the fact that I used to have plain LR and joined the CC, the PS/LR combo.  So I uninstalled what the computer says, I had, namely LR 4.4 and 5.7.1, and then used table CC to download and install LR.

  Same thing happens:

  The initial catalog selection dialog comes up and when I select the main catalogue in that I normally work, the computer hangs.  The LR shows splash.

  And, as I have to do a cold reboot, the locking file stays behind and then I get another message from another program using the catalogue.  Remove the lock file, but that changes nothing, always the same behavior.

  When I select a different catalog, same thing.  When I tried to create a new catalog, after starting to create it, a message box came up saying something on the smugmug connect (box was much smaller than the message), and the system locked and I had to do a physical reboot.

  It can be as important as little time after signing for CC, I started having the windows "switch to" messages, telling me the LR thought that another copy of himself was running.  The task manager has not shown that.  And in any case, a few mouse clicks and things seemed to work very well.

  Also, at some point given, I got a message that the database for the catalog has been corrupted and I was able to run the correction and he told me it was fixed, but then he went in never never land.  (I noticed that he trimmed the size of the catalogue of. 4 MB)

  I hesitate to try opening my last backup, especially after the discovery that I had the same error on a much smaller catalog, that I had not used for several months.

  It turned out to be a failed disk drive, the player who had the top catalog.

  I had to set up the check disk tool, which had to be run at startup to the top because the disc was top user profiles. (Explorer, right click on the drive in the left pane, select Tools and the tool "Check disk for errors").

  He ran for several hours, but 11% through step 4 of 5, file data verification, he stopped and has not exceeded. So, apparently, at least one of the files could not be verified.  Without going into the details, I was able to copy the files I need another drive (robocopy), swap drive letters by using diskpart and restart.

  So apparently LR needs the additional error handling related to the file handles.  Somewhere in the initial load of a catalogue, a read file failed and the LR code is not a handler for this kind of error.  What must happen, in my opinion, is that the LR error handling must have displayed a message saying unexpected hardware failure, disk most likely related and recommended I have run CHKDSK on the drive where the catalog.
