Get rid of OUTLOOK EXPRESS

She has just appeared on my computer... I find it very annoying!

I don't know what it means 'just jumped on my computer', but if you see a message like this:

To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.

Here is the information you need to know about what to do (maybe you just need the "BOLD" part), but it may help someone else someday.  This was composed after a few committed Microsoft Support Engineer 'expert' tried to fix for someone suggesting to try things which could never work... so I thought I would help them.

I advise all to first understand what is happening and then decide how best to treat for your environment:

If you are talking about a message that says:

To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.

Automatic compaction of Outlook Express files was introduced in Service Pack 2.

If you are using Windows XP, there is a registry value called:

Compact Check Count

It is located in the registry for a key that looks like this:

\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKCU\Identities\ {51909A0B-63EE-4EB3-A9A2-7CFA23C1ADCF}

Whenever you leave OE (not when you open it), the value of the counter increases by an increment (increment is not a verb so you can't increment something and a counter cannot be incremented).  When the value of the counter gets to 101, the next time you close OE asked you to compress messages.

There are two things that will increase the value of the counter.

Exit from Outlook Express will increase the value of the counter.

If you have Windows Desktop Search installed, it will increase the counter every time it works which is usually at least at each reboot.

If you use Outlook Express, and Windows Desktop Search, the counter will be increased more frequently — whenever you close Outlook Express and whenever Windows Desktop Search launches when you restart.

Even if you are not using Outlook Express and only using Windows Desktop Search, which again will increase the counter whenever the system reboots, so when the meter reaches 100, Windows Desktop Search invite you to compress messages at the next reboot even if you use not OE.

This is because Windows Desktop Search is configured by default to search for the Outlook Express database if you are using OE or not.

No matter how the counter is increased, if you use at least one of these two, eventually you will see this message appear sooner or later.  But you can stop it when you understand.

Did you know that the "increase" is not a verb?  If you cannot 'increment' (or decrement) a counter.  You can increase or decrease an increment, however.

You can compress the database when you are prompted as he tells you to do (which resets the counter to 0).

You can change the registry and reset the counter to hand to buy some time until you see the message again.

If you do not use Outlook Express, and only by using Windows Desktop Search you will see this message later, but you can tell Windows Desktop Search to never watch the Outlook Express database (or uninstall the Windows Desktop Search if you do not use).

To remove the Option of Windows Desktop Search index to the database of Outlook Express follow these steps:

Click Start, settings, Control Panel, Indexing Options, change, clear the box Outlook Express, OK, OK, to save the settings and reboot the system so that the changes will be effective.

After the Outlook Express recommended for use (which would include the normal database maintenance) will prevent you from seeing the message in the first place.  If you see the message that you might want to reconsider how you use Outlook Express and the risks of data store corruption of occasional or misuse (risk behaviours).

Most people using Outlook Express or Windows Desktop Search agree just remove the indexing Option in Windows Desktop Search and keep the meter that is built into Outlook Express so that they will remind to compact the database from time to time.  If you had to sort of do not maintain your Outlook Express files, it would be risky for your messages.

Windows Desktop Search is a memory and CPU of pigs anyway, so if you have installed, I recommend you just uninstall and your system will give you better performance.

  • Need to know in detail how to get my Pop3 outlook express mail on windows 7

Just graduated from XP to the new windows 7 and I need to know how to get my Outlook Express mail.  Need to know how to set up Pop 3.   Reading a few forums, I think the knuckleheads who put this windows 7 as a whole did not anyway to do unless you're a computer expert.   I would have been much better served if they would have put the old XP back on this new computer.   I'm an old PET of 69 year who knows nothing about setting up these things, and unless someone can come in here and talk to me with every little detail step by step what to click on it and where to find it in detail.  It will never happen.  If you would be grateful someone with this kind of knowledge back to me.  Thank you

In OE, go to tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced and check the leave a copy of messages on the server.  By default, they are deleted when you check mail.

  • Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to initialize the store directory. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Error code: 0 x 80007114

Operating system Windows XP, at startup, I get the message: "Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to initialize the store directory. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full"and displays the error code: 0 x 80007114.  (I have a new drive hard with enough space) Outlook Express always open well and functioning normally.  The message mentions and how to fix the problem?  Thank you, Rick

Jump here (nothing Bruce suggested is false), I did a search and found this old article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245419), which indicates that there is a bad entry under the identity key in the registry (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background).  So if it's a big problem, you can do the steps suggested in this article and that will fix it.  Or if you have just one account, then backup your settings and the identity key and then delete the identity key and then start OE and it will establish a new, and you can then set up your account again, and then import the messages from the older directory.  But it does not indicate the major corruption, so you can just ignore it.

  • Outlook express is the "timing" out on my emails may not increase after 5 minutes

When I get emails on outlook express I get a time-out before you finish download, and whenever I turn it on it the same thing happens. I have an email with a large attachment. I increased the time to receive the maximum of 5 minutes, but it will not download.

You can access your email through your email provider's website?  This way you could delete it.  You can also set up a message rule that if a message exceeds a certain size (and which has a large number), and then delete it from the server.  But then, you won't know who it was, so what matters.  You can also telnet to the server and delete (see http://techhelp.santovec.us/pop3telnet.htm).

  • I got a partial answer to my question about "how to delete emails from the Inbox in Outlook Express. Can I track my original request with a follow-up of the issue?

Thank you very much for your answer.

Outlook Express is listed on the Start button.  Following your instructions,.

I clicked on start, Control Panel, Folder Options/view.  Point of view, a list of Options have been posted and some have been checked, including 'display the hidden files and folders '.

I do not know how to find Inbox.dbx.  I still find 41 messages in the Inbox, 78 in the deleted items and 14 in mass mailings.  When I click on "remove" messages, I get a message - "the server is not found. In addition, unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server.

"I uncheck" "include this account" so then, I probably is no longer get emails in Outlook Express.  My hard drive is pathetic looking.  I find a small "Ribbon of pink pie (unused space) and in the rest of the cake shape is 'BLUE'.  I thought that E-mails from Outlook Express can be responsible for my hard drive being so full. After I empty all these junk emails in 2008, I have to know what else I can remove to open more space on my hard drive.

Thank you for your patience and for your help.

    Edie

After deleting messages in OE, go to file | Folder | Compact to reduce the size of the folder.  Otherwise removal does not affect the size of a folder.  You should probably go to file | Folder | Compact everything to reduce all sizes of folder in OE.  I would like to make a backup first.

For more free space on your disk, click Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup.

It is not best to start a new message when you are tracking on another, because nobody knows what you're referring to when you the previous thread.  I managed to find it well and Bruce said: ' tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run '.

  • I can ONLY connect to the internet with IE7 and Outlook Express

I have Win XP SP3, home wired network, Netgear router, cable internet, Lenovo desktop.
I can run IE 7 and Outlook Express and connect to the internet very well with these.  However, I can not connect using FireFox.  Windows Update returns an error and does NOT connect to scan my computer and display the necessary updates.  I just installed tax program this year HR CD block and it is unable to connect to internet to download the updates.  I used IE7 to go to the web site of the tax program to download the update manually, but it doesn't connect either.  I also can't complete installation OF Adobe (Digital Editions) program because it must connect to the internet in order to make a registration.

I have disabled the Windows Firewall, do not have a configured proxy.  So, I can browse the internet with IE7 and get email with Outlook express.  I went on the site from Google Chrome to try to download it and install it that (using IE7 of course), but after I press the "Download" button, IE7 says that it cannot connect to perform the download.

I scanned this forum and not seen similar symptoms that would allow me to reach a solution.  Everyone knows about this issue and how to resolve?

P.S. I have two other laptops Win XP which CAN completely connect to internet with IE and Firefox via the same router and the modem cable.

I tried trojan remover and none of the things in the menu utils found any problems.

But it turns out that my problem was a hidden/partial copy of Symantec Client Firewall that I thought was deleted.  Over the months some programs had been updated and Symantec didn't know about them, so it was blocking their access: FROM Adobe, HR Block, IE8, Firefox, etc.  Given that I have not seen it listed in the start menu and it was not listed in Add/Remove Programs, I didn't have to try to remove it.  And it was not poping up to tell me of a new program attempts to access the Internet.

I used the Symantec tool to remove all THE stuff of Symantec and it cleared up my connection problems.  I then reinstalled Symantec Client Security (antivirus and firewall) and turned off the Windows Firewall.

  • Spell checker no longer works in Outlook Express

I just installed Office Professional 2010 on my computer.  I use XP with SP3.

I use an outlok express 6 E-mail account for the email of my wife.  After I installed office 2010 the spelling checker is no longer available in outlook express.  The full version of Microsoft Outlook and word have spelling that works very well, but I can't get it on Outlook Express

Can anyone help me to restore it please

Thank you for your help Graham.  In my research I found an application that can be charged to support Outlook Express, that I downloaded and it seems to have solved my problem.

    http://www.MajorGeeks.com/download.php?Det=2952

Either by the way, I use Outlook because it is better and has many more features that I use while my wife uses Express.  It will not change and that's why I have adapter both.

Do you know if the Microsoft live impact on any other application.  I don't want to load if she will not break something else.

    Appreciate your help.

  • Outlook Express does not work

Whenever I try to apply for a job online through craigslist, or something else, I'm poured into Outlook Express. Whenever I try to use this useless piece of crud I get the following error message: the host 'aol' could not be found. Please check that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'aol', server: 'aol', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 11001, error number: 0x800CCC0D. Could someone please tell me how to make it work, so I can try & get a job, among other things, or, failing that, how to work around this problem in Microsoft.

Let me clarify: when I get dumped to Outlook Express I don't use AOL, I use Mozilla Firefox to post a link on craigslist. Now, my question is: How can I get this piece of _ outlook express to work as it is supposed to, or disable it so that when I type the link in the announcement, I am using, I have something that works good bloody! I also tried to do in IE 8 with the same problem of people of give me the same error message damned.

    Hello

Your problem not Microsoft here! You seem has not entered in the invalid mail server
    the names or the incorrect.

AOL uses another port for SMTP that is 587 not 25 and also some anti-virus blocking the port for security. But you must check the correct settings provided by your ISP and then connect to your account by clicking on Tools > accounts > your account > properties > Server and Advanced tabs , make your changes.

  • Outlook Express E-Mail lost

Recently, my computer crashed and gave a blue screen. I had a local computer repair company, to repair it for me. They ran a virus scan Ad-Aware and my Outlook Express mail was lost. To get my email Outlook Express return account, I had to open a new account, not having my old e-mail messages. How can I recover my old Inbox and sent folders messages?

If you are using Vista, the messages are stored as eml files, then you will get *.eml.  If you use OE, then messages are stored in dbx files and you will need to search for *.dbx.  Seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 andwww.oehelp.com/backup.aspx .  My DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) may be able to help to retrieve messages if you use OE (but it won't help with Winmail).
