Gets VDR me in hot water - ridiculous restoration time

My small business has spent a considerable amount of money on a VM/SAN solution and the power are pretty upset by the results we experienced last night.

I have an older Windows 2003 vm that I converted from a physical server and its 'thick' disc is 67 GB.  Currently, VDR backups reside on a generic NAS with a single connection GB VDR connects to the NAS server via a windows on another server share as it's my only option to networked storage.  Farm of VMware is connected to EMC SAN via a dedicated 20 GB switch "fabric".

The restoration of this virtual machine took 8 hours and management is not happy with the turn around time.

I know that I gave very superficial details, but I could hear from someone who has performed a restore of a windows file share, and what was their performance?

The design seems to suggest that data travels twice: once from the host vmware to windows box, then once in the windows for the CIFS share box.  is this true?  You can change this?

67GB in 8 hours is 2.5 MB/s, pretty crappy flow.  You have studied the time it takes simply to copy the 67GB on the NAS part down to the Windows box in the middle and without doing a restore - just copy the file?  If it is 8 hours, then you have your culprit.  If you don't have the space in the windows box, then I would be by copying both NAS NAS share with the windows box in the middle. Again, if it takes 8 hours you have your culprit.

Then I'd get a VM on this computer and copy 67 GB starting from this NAS share directly on it.

Then copy 67 GB of the Windows box in the middle of the virtual machine.

Get you my drift?  If you don't have room for 67GB, find something small you CAN go up and come and go every time.  See where is your slow link.

Just curious: was this a test restore, or restore production which has never tested?

    Jack,

    When you send 'SS030.00\r' unit, did you have the constant or the potentiometer '-' display Codes?  The chain controls and constants have several display modes.  Depending on the mode, what you see isn't necessarily what you get.

    This string in a Normal display mode would end with the backslash character, and the 'r '. If the screen is in the ' \' Codes display mode, then he'd go to .

    If you have a computer that isn't yours, so the best approach is to re - install Windows on this computer and try again.  If it's a recent computer OEM (HP, Dell, Compaq, etc.) then you can probably hit one of the keys 'Fx' when the initial splash screen appears and tells you which key to press to "system it" (or use installation provided by the manufacturer discs).  Go to the support page for your computer manufacturer's website and download the manual for your computer.  It should instruct you on how to reinstall Windows.

    Otherwise, you will need to login with an account with administrator privileges to make the changes you want to make.  This forum is a Microsoft supported and, therefore, we must follow the policy of Microsoft - including those about lost or forgotten passwords...

    MacBookPro is not too hot.  It's time to change the battery?  Can I do it myself?

    The Mac runs his fans in a feedback loop, based of the internal temperature measured.

    If the temperature goes up and the fans are not speed up to compensate, you probably have a hardware problem.

    If the Mac becomes too hot, it will make an uncontrolled emergency power off.

    EDIT: Replacing the battery is a completely separable question not related to temperature. Is the Samsung phone batteries that catch fire, not Mac.

  • Try to use Windows Update to install 2 updates, get "updates are not configured correctly. Restoration of the changes

    Try to use Windows Update to install 2 updates (Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista) and an a security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista KB253048. It's on a laptop at home unique stand alone, works with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.

    Windows Update initially reported two updates correctly installed and asks me to restart the PC, what I'm doing. Before the connection at the reboot prompt, I get a message saying "updates are not configured correctly. Restoration of the changes. It is the next messages saying: step 1/2/3 of 3 0% complete.
    After I then connect I get the message ' Windows to not install important updates.

    Update history reveals the KB253048 cannot install (error 80070005), but IE9 installed successfully. However when click on the IE icon and run Internet Explorer version 8 of Internet Explorer, I get, not version 9.

    I tried to do this several times on 2 days, but get same problem.

    This gives a shot.

    Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.

    [You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

    4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

    NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of Norton 360 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

    NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately!

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

    9. IMPORTANT - DON'T SKIP THIS STEP! Open Internet Explorer, to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 of => & run who fix it in methods AGGRESSIVE then by DEFAULT. [1]

    10. restart one last & test.

  • can't get back into windows after a system restore

    I ran a system restore on my desktop running windows vista edition Home premium 64-bit. half way through my screan saver restoration opened and collapsed the restoration ended. After a few hours I shut down the computer. now when I start my pc it runs all preliminary functions and allows me to choose to either start windows failure, safe with fast back or normal mode. If I choose the mode safe mode (with or without back) through a loading phase where it shows everybody that it loads, it stops on a cdc.dsk file, and then processes to a black screan. If I choose load windows normally it goes to a black screan. the windows vista I have is one that came with the pc, so I don't have the disks to run. is it possible to fix this or did I just turn a pc $1500 in a very expensive papper weight?

    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
  • E-mail addresses of removal of Smartphones blackBerry is no longer in use - cannot get rid of the icons. Advanced restore?
    Hi, I recently lost my phone and got a replacement yesterday.  I restored my backup of a few months back, but he understood some email addresses, that I don't use anymore and I don't want them on the handset.  I had been online to my blackberry and orange Web page and delete these email addresses it and then re-sent service books.  I also took the battery out and reloaded several times.  However, icons of e-mail on the home page will not disappear - I "hide", and then in all applications where electronic mail is used, the list of my email addresses include these "deleted".
    Anyone know how to get rid of these?
    My new replacement phone has annoyingly crashed, then they send me a new tomorrow.  I managed to save today before it crashed, so I can restore my settings when I get a news.  When I do a restore is it possible to restore everything except email addresses? And then I can just manually reset the because it is fairly simple.
    If anyone has any ideas...
    Thank you, J
    Once you have made the restoration on the new device:
    1. Go to Options > advanced > Service books and remove those email accounts you don't want, you will see two entries for each e-mail account, a [CICAL], and a [CIMIME] entry.
    2. Then, return to your Orange BIS account configuration and delete the accounts of unwanted emails again, if they're still there.
    Good luck.
