GMAIL: I don't want to download ALL messages

Hello

I really want Thunderbird to work for me, but I don't know if he can. I have three addresses, a personal gmail and labour two, and I've been using gmail itself in order to coordinate the three. It does not work for me so I would use Thunderbird. The problem is, whenever I try to add my gmail account to my Thunderbird it downloads all of his messages. I thought that IMAP is designed so that e-mail messages are NOT downloaded? My gmail account takes more than 50 GB of space, and I can't allow me to download it. So is it possible to have Thunderbird acts as INTERFACE to my gmail account without HAVING to download a message?

Thank you..!
Best,
Nick

You can configure Thunderbird not to save local copies, but it may then become unbearably slow when you browse through your messages.

Tools | Accounts settings | {Select your gmail account} | Synchronization and storage

Uncheck "keep messages for this account on this computer. Also look at advanced, on the same page of settings and make sure that all files are unchecked.

She can speed up things a bit if you right-click on the account, select new query and select only the records you want to see.

For most people with your query, I would say that 'use webmail' (i.e. the google Web site), but I must say that I find it unpleasant to use. I assume you are also less satisfied with it?
