groups and iSCSI connections to ports

Hello

We have a 5.1 esx server connected to an iSCSI-based storage device.

the server is connected using two of the vmkernal iscsi ports.  each network card has a different ip address on the private iscsi vlan.  the configuration is according to the practices of bast vm using only one network by vmkernal port card.

We have a migration of storage to another storage but I still have to intall it.  I would like to know if its possible to create two groups of ports additional vmkernal using the same NIC already connected to the iscsi storage.  new port groups on one vlan separate and different netwok so go looking, it seems right that I share two NICs for two networks different iscsi.

as mentioned above, that I have not installed the hardware yet, but to test it a bit it looks like I can add groups of ports by using the network card and I was able to bind to the vmhbaxx with the adapter of storage with the path of staus as not used.  so I hope that when I connect the new buffer I would be if all goes well able to connect once I place a discovery?

any comments welcome.

Thank you

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do what you describe. It's a little unusual, but it should work to create adapters to VMK several on the same vSwitch and make the same active/unused configuration you already made, but put other id VLAN and IP address on the new adapters. Of course the two logical VMK adapters share the same network link, but you are fully aware of.

As long as it is not indicated in some manual or KB article as a solution not supported, you should be fine.

I'm trying to reduce the number of iSCSI connections to my EqualLogic storage group. I currently use a standard vSwitch with two ports vmk by server for SAN. Can I use a single vmk with VDS/LACP to reduce my by half by server iSCSI connections and still maintains band bandwidth/redundancy?

I'm quite confident, it will work, but hoped for validation. Please correct me if I'm totally turned off, or if it would be not supported.

My volumes cover several physical devices (20 paths for 7 volumes by iSCSI adapter). Can I assume that with load balancing on an OFFSET of the source and destination hash value, I would get at least some balancing between adapters?

If you have several points of termination targets L2 - 4, Yes. For example an IP address, MAC address, unique ports or. Paths, volumes and devices are not relevant to the LACP.

If I don't choose a LAG, I can't visualize how it would reduce my iSCSI for my storage pool connections. I'm setting targets on my Broadcom cards, the vmk connects through these cards. Is the logic that is smart enough to only connect the active paths on an adapter or another in an OFFSET? I do know that I have make sense more that I might have to play with a SHIFT on a host isolated for a bit and see exactly how it will behave.

The adapters are more exposed. The LAG is a logical interface. Traffic can be sent or received through any physical adapter in the GAL.

Note: I would not use an OFFSET for iSCSI on a vSphere host traffic: seriously, Stop Using Port channels for vSphere storage traffic. Wahl network

  • VCB server with both FC and iSCSI connections

    Hello.

Anyone know if a VCB implementation that has the FC and iSCSI LUN presented to the proxy server is possible/supported?  I see no technical reason that it wouldn't work, but I'm trying to understand whether or not this is a supported configuration.

    Thank you!

I don't see why that would be a question of a standpoing of features, but if you didn't mind the performance hit you just the business day following mode of transport and not worry present LUNS.   I guess that maybe in the same way hotadd would work as well.

  • 2 questions - group leader and iscsi

We have a unique PS6500 of the firmware 6.0.5. From 3 days ago, Archbishop Grp freezes when I click on the member icon. I could go into all the rest of the GUI with no problems. I got the firmware installed for about a month, so I don' t think that is the problem. Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

2nd edition - we have vmware hosts connected to QE through private switches. Vmware hosts have separate vswitches for vmotion and windows iscsi volumes. VMotion is on 10.2.0 subnet and iscsi volumes are on 10.2.1 subnet. The EQ is on 10.2.0 with a 255.255.0.0 mask. The switches are set with the VLANS separated for iscsi and vmotion.  So far in Grp Mgr, I allowed on each volume 10.2. *. *. I started to try to change it so that the vm volumes only allow connections from 10.2.0. * (vmotion subnet) and volumes windows only allow connection of the 10.2.1. *. Currently, I do not use chap or iscsi initiator to limit. Here is an example for a windows volume.

But here is what I get in the Connections tab for this volume, even after a new analysis of storage host adapters:

So either I completely ignore the setting of the limits of intellectual property, or my EQ has a problem. Shouldn't I have the 10.2.1 connections to this volume?

    Any ideas? Thank you.

None of the fixes listed in the 6.0.6 release notes apply to my EQ,.

BTW, you can add the ACL CHAP to the EQL live volume.  This will not affect existing sessions.  Just make sure that you first create the CHAP user on the table.  Then after setting the ACL volume, set the iSCSI initiator ESX to use CHAP.

If you take a look at the RPM, you can find a few Commons left default setings.  There are some that will improve performance, other stability.

vMotion has not EQL access at all.  It's strictly for compose the image memory of a computer virtual from one host to another ESX host.

Storage vMotion includes EQL, but it does not use the port of vMotion to do anything.

vMotion traffic must be completely isolated, because the content in the course of the transfer are not encrypted.   So no VM Network exchanges should be on this vSwitch and the physical switch should be isolated too.

  • Differences between the ISCSI connections to the storage in vSphere 4.1 and 5.0.

I'm in trouble of setting up the connections of storage in a new VSphere 5.0 test environment. In our environment VSphere 4.1, it was possible to create a virtual switch add two Broadcom NetXtreme II 5709 NIC. Set assets. IP Hash value as load balancing. (LACP Etherchannel on physical switches) This configuration uses a grain port and a single IP address. Then add our NetApp NFS storage and ISCSI Equillogic storage. In VSphere 5.0, I can't create this same configuration. I have to create separate with separate IP addresses vmkernal ports? The idea was to have redundant connections to the storage and flow of these two NETWORK cards. Possibly adding additional if necessary to the futuer NETWORK cards. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

How can I work around this:

"VMkernel network adapter must have an active link exactly and no waiting rising to be eligible for the iSCSI HBA connection."

I can certainly say that the way which allows you to configure the iSCSI Multipathing is incorrect.

The main idea is to let Native Multipathing Plugin to decide what network path to choose, not the vSwitch.

At the level of the network layer, you must have 1 VMK by a physical NIC.

This technique applies as well for vSphere 4.1 and 5.0, but with the 5.0 it is configured easier and more quickly.

Here's a very brief consequence of steps

    1. get 2 VMK interfaces and assign an IP by each VMK.

    2. set each VMK to use only one physical NETWORK adapter

3 GB with storage iSCSI software adapter, turn it on and bind your VMKs 2.

4 connect to your iSCSI storage space

5 rescan devices, create the VMFS datastore

    6. set the desired load balancing VMFS method or just set up a prior default create new VMFS

  • Tecra M2: How to connect on port DVI - D LCD with DVI - I and at 1600 x 1200

My Toshiba Tecra M2 has a GeForce FX go5200. Docking station has a DVI - D port.

I want to use an external LCD screen which is equipped with a DVI - I port.

When you connect a DVI - D cable to the DVI - D between the ports and monitor Replicator and if I set to 1600 x 1200 which is desired (and support for the resolution of the screen) then the display does not fit in the liquid crystal display and therefore the screen starts to pan.

If I use a (next to the PC) VGA / DVI - I (next to the screen) cable then I wanted resolution of 1600 x 1200.

    Please advise so how:

Connect the Port DVI - D from Toshiba to LCD with DVI - I and at 1600 x 1200.

  • NAS hard drive not accessible more: the device is not configured to accept connections on port 'files and printers sharing (SMB).

    Dear,

I am desperately looking for a solution for my specific problem how access my NAS.

I have a hard drive from Western Digital NAS (Book Live) which worked fine until now. Yet, I just changed my internet provider and I now have a new Fritzbox 6360. Now, I can not access the hard disk of the commune of programs in Windows. I contacted two suppliers already, but without success. I think I have some incorrect settings in my Windows 7, 64 bit. This is the situation:

-NAS is still working with my old Fritzbox, for testing that I went back-> ok

-I can access the NAS via the dashboard or a TwonkyServer-> ok

-When I access it via Windows Explorer, I wonder is to give my credentials (which don't work) or I get the error message: the device is not configured to accept connections on port 'files and printers sharing (SMB).

-J' changed my IP address (dynamic even static) and connections, password-> without success.

-J' tried SFC with the result that found no violation of integrity. -> ok.

    Any idea?

Can you please turn off the NAS, unplug the cable and Ethernet cable? Wait about 2 minutes then plug all the cables back in. Any security program or firewall to this computer? Try disabling it for now.

You have another PC or laptop which has Windows 7/8 and try to access the NAS?

You have a smartphone or a Tablet and download an application for the WD NAS and then try to access files.

  • FC and iSCSI

I have an IBM Blade Center with 4 blades running enterprise 5.1 ESXI.

The blades are connected to storage via FC (Fibre Channel) switch.

I added a new SAN at the center of the blade, but due to some unexpected port licensing problems with my Cisco MDS 9000 FC switch, I can connect only one of the 2fc connects to my blade right now.

  • vSphere 5 and iSCSI LACP

Hello - this is my first post here so please, be gentle.

I tried to find information about configuring LACP in vSphere, ESXi 5. Let me give a brief overview of my environment and the objectives that we strive to achieve. We use NICs 1 GB on 6710 VDX Brocade fabric switches.

We have a small cluster of vSphere, ESXi 5 standard edition. We have 6 physical network interface cards in each host - 2 are associated to the network of the VM, 2 are associated for vMotion/management, and the last two are vmKernal ports one two separate subnets connected using MPIO to our Compellent SAN iSCSI. This has been our test bench and we use the nic teaming in ESXi 5 running "Route based on the originating virtual port ID" with no specific switch-side config. We have other servers only using LACP 802.3ad configured on the host and the switch that work very well - gives us a better failure protection that we use two switches and plug in a link in each switch. We would like to do the same with ESXi hosts.

Our new project is coming to virtualize a larger number of systems we currently serve. We want to do is expand our use VM to include a large (30 - big for us) number of SQL servers. The basic functions of these systems require a decent amount of e/s SAN backend. The physical servers we would be virtualize emballerions a density close to 4 / 1 or up to 8:1 with this conversion. We are concerned that having just the 2 iSCSI nic MPIO paths will not be sufficient to support the increased load of I/O.

We would like to know if you are using LACP on the two subnet iSCSI connections and join 2 + NIC for each connection is viable in ESXi 5 and with iSCSI technology and what configuration parameters that we set up to do this.

In addition, this project would be to use Enterprise Edition VMWare vSphere 5 - DRS or distributed switching introduced other complications or benfits for this configuration?

Thanks for any helpful input or direction of already published documents.

    Scott

I find using LACP / etherchannel is rarely effective or useful in VMware environments.

For iSCSI storage, my standard configuration is to use 2 uplinks with binding of iSCSI ports. Here are the screenshots of the configuration.

  • iSCSI connection

Can someone give me an idea about the best way to configure my connection iSCSI in vMware?

I'm under ESXi 4.1. I have three ESX host. On each host, I have two other network connections to the outside for each host. It is advisable to configure a vmkernal port, assign an IP address and use a one as the main network connection and the other as secondary or load balancing, both.

Or and im not having a chance at this moment doing this... install a second port of vmkernal using a separate virtual switch, assign it a second ip address and having only one main connection on for each virtual switch. Give me two connections to my iSCSI SAN for each host.

    Thank you

    Wayne

    Hi Wayne,

The best way is to have a unique vSwitch with two other cards attached physical. Then, create two VMkernel ports for iSCSI connections. Take a look at the next section for a full description of this type of configuration.

    It will be useful.

In research on the problem to Microsoft. com, the following message is received: Mozilla is not configured to accept connections on port "The World Wide Web (HTTP) service."

Hmm... PowerPoint must use Windows to connect to the internet and not Firefox.

    What method do you use?

Apparently, there was an update this month that allows this, as described in this message of support (see the top of page answer right after the question): embedding video in powerpoint 2013 - Microsoft YouTube community online

    Hello

Windows 8.1, this function is called localization.

You must go to settings PC-> privacy-> location
    Here, it takes light options:
-Let the apps use my position

In this case the unique apps would be able to access location data (GPS).

  • Why not USB-6509 allow setting input and output on individual ports?

I have one of the new USB-6509 (96 digital i/o channels) commissions.  It has 12 ports for every 8 bits.  The manual says that you can define the inputs and outputs on a per port basis.  When I read an 8-bit port that I find it clears different ports that I put in place to be digital output.  They seem to be grouped into 3 groups of 4.  0-3, 4-7 and 8-11.  When I read from any single port within this group it erases the other ports in this group that I try to use as exits.  The result is that I can put only input and outputs in groups of 4 ports.  Unfortunately, we have built custom hardware based on the assumption that we could control the inputs and outputs on a basis of port by port.  I see this problem as well with my LabVIEW 7.1 program (see table), as well as the measurement and Automation Explorer.  Is anyone out there seen this problem with the USB-6509?  Anyone using it with success?  I also notice strange problems with power on, but I have yet to understand the model.  IM wondering if I have a defective material or maybe this new material still has problems.  I tried NIDAQ 8.7.1 and 8.8.  Same problem with both. Thank you.

Thanks for the replies.  It was determined that the USB-6509 we have has a hardware malfunction that is causing the ports to interfere between them.  We are return to OR for repair or replacement.  For now, we used a PCI-DIO-96, which works correctly. Thank you, Andy
