  • Get the old hard drive to work on the new processor

I am a PC Tech company with problems on PC at home.

My Win 7 Home Premium Dell Studio T435/9000 dead.  It was a motherboard problem, I chose not to replace the CPU/Mo with a duplicate.  The hard disk MBR is good, I could read it and when I installed in an Optiplex 990 at work, it is initialized.

I had the chance to receive a new Dell T5610 with 2 CPUs of a parent.  It came with professional Win7 preinstalled on an SSD, UEFI boot on a GPT disk.  But all my apps are absent and even a rat-pack obsessives like me do not have all the CD and install the files for the various applications on the old hard drive.

I want to use my old hard drive on the new PC, then after that it's stable, migrate the old hard drive to the SS disc supplied with the PC.

First problem was to learn the differences between MBR and GPT.  After this was learning that Home Premium does not work on a PC with two separate processors.  I use Win7 professional for that.  With the help of this forum, I was able to do this by using the Optiplex 990.  I run Win7 Professional on the Optiplex 990.

I take the former home of hard disk go BIOS to legacy.  Old hard drive that boots on 990, does not start on T5610.

I try various advanced options, safe mode, low-resolution video, nothing works.  I get a BSOD is a hard drive error, STOP 040000007 B.

I try Startup Repair tool and get the following:

    Problem event name

    Offline Startup Repair

    1 6.1.7600.16385

    2 6.1.7600.16385

    5 Autofailover

    6 1

    7. bad driver

    6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 OS version

    Locale 1033

How can I get my old hard drive to work with the new processor.  Is it a question of Dell, a Win7 Office.  As the hard drive starts up successfully on another CPU, I believe that the hard drive is good.

Thank you very much for your help!

Thanks to you all.  But the solution was completely different.

Dell said the motherboard on the accuracy was so different from my old PC that unless I reinstalled Win7 Professional from scratch on the old hard drive, motherboard would not work with the old hard drive.

They have guaranteed that the old hard drive would work on a 8700 XPS.  After some problems, I managed to do the work.  Problem solved.

  • Hard drive partition and install the new operating system

    HY,

If I partition my hard drive and I install a new OS (E.g. Ubuntu 14.04) my warranty ends?

    Thank you

    SA

    Hello

No, it will not void the warranty but HP only supports the problems with the original operating system and prove the operation of the equipment of the original OS.

Do the recovery disks and keep them safe before so that you could go back to factory settings if there is no problem of partitioning.

Recovery partition usually works after partitioning, depends on your luck, but you could make the 'Active' Partition in disk management and try for recovery if it works or not.

    Thank you

  • When I tried to start my computer, I got an error message saying there is no hard drive installed, cannot find the main drive.

So I got the cd to reinstall windows xp, and he says he does not have a cd drive. I can only choose f2 or f12, but not all options appear. Normal boot and the following three, don't you remember those who, 1 to 4 in any case. Cannot run diagnostics as it says that there is no drive. Tells me to press f1 to retry or f2 for this to be. But f1 doesn't, f2 which brings back me to something that did not help me. I need help! Anyone? Thank you very much. Mr. Spence

    Hello Margo15,

If you assembled your PC yourself, this may happen because of the bad connection in your hardware.

    You can consult:
1 make sure your CDROM /dvdrom is properly connected.
    2. the hard drive is properly connected, make sure that there is no loose connection.
    3. Insert the CD of Installation of XP and reboot the PC to check again.

Is the usable hard drive prior to this install attempts or you install a new copy of XP into a new PC?

    Waiting for your response.

    Thank you and best regards.

  • Means of hard drive failure cannot use the recovery partition. Alas! recovery discs will not read!

Hard drive decided to throw a wobbly and abandon me. I can't access the drive at all so decided to but a new and use the recovery at least discs bring the machine to its status as an out-of-box.

That's the problem... It will not read the recovery disc. I know there is some stuff about it because I read in another machine. Until you tell me to change the DVD hardware... it reads very well all the other disks. I loaded Arcronis, as well as other system repair stuff, using the DVD Player/Recorder.

I have a pukka Product Code for the software, Vista Home Basic. Can I get a Vista Home Basic disc and then use my key to sting?  I'm happy to pay a price, but do not want to buy at the price high. After all, I already paid for it once!

Any help/suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Mr. Blue Screen.

    Hello

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Satellite L305D S5895: Win 7 cannot find the HARD drive or cannot format the HARD drive on a clean install

I have laptop Satellite L305D S5895 of the customer. It was delivered to me by the customer who tried to install Windows XP Pro, Vista and none would install.
He said he tried all the CD that he had finally dropped on it and delivered it to me installation.

When I got the score have been removed, so I tried to install Win 7 and when I do a custom install, I get an error indicating that the hard drive can not be formatted on disk 0 or it will give an error that no hard drives have been found.

I have reset the bios default and no matter what I do, it won't format or find the hard drive. I was going to upgrade the bios, but the only way I found to upgrade the bios is once windows is installed.

Everyone has ideas about this laptop so I can get a system installed. I checked the bios and there is no parameters for a sata, raid or IDE disk drive, so it seems that this version cannot be changed.

Thanks for anyone who can help you.

    Rick

    Hello

First of all it is an American notebook series.

The laptop supports a processor AMD and ATI chipset.
This means that the drivers SATA is part of the ATI graphics card driver.

You must include the first SATA driver in order to install the Windows operating system.
You could add the SATA driver for the Windows disk using software like nLite / vLite

  • Cannot start the new installation

    Good evening

Tonight, I installed a new motherboard, power supply, CPU, video card, video card, etc. Basically, everything but the hard drive.

When I went to it starts, I was unable to make it work. My BIOS seemed to have been implemented correctly. The repair was insufficient and unable to fix anything.

I can't find my boot drive to run it.

Can I do to solve this problem? Any help would be grateful.

    Original title: new installation

    Hello

After such a drastic physical change that Windows will no longer work (because of all the parameters differ from your configuration (very basic explanation)), and you have to reinstall the entire operating system.

You can do it with a Windows 7 installation disc or a support. Be aware that if you have an OEM license this license no longer works, check the sticker on the box to see if your system was oem (sticker will have OEM, OA of COA inside)

  • Cannot defragment the hard drive AND cannot start the computer in safe mode

I have been unable to defragment my hard drive because it tells me that chkdsk /f planned.  I tried manually works in command mode nothing works.  I was advised to try to start up in safe mode, but when I do that all I get is a screen of command lines, and my computer freezes there.  What I'm doing wrong and what I can do differently?

If you try to defragment a volume and see a message like this:

Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c :))
    Please run Chkdsk /f.

This means that the volume (disk) that you want to defragment was marked 'dirty' XP.

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

You can check the status of your bit of impurity from a command prompt window.

To do this, click Start, run and enter in the box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window.

For example, to query the bit of impurity on drive C, type:

    fsutil dirty query C:

    The sample output:
    Volume c is dirty
    Volume C: is dirty

Is the volume of your sale or it is not dirty?

The only way to disable the on a volume's dirty bit is to run chkdsk with error correction.

You can click on start, run and enter in the box:

    Chkdsk /r

Click OK and answer Yes to schedule the chkdsk next time XP restarts, restart your system and keep your fingers crossed that the chkdsk /r clears the dirty bit (you may need to run once or twice).

If who disobeys, then you will need to start in the XP Recovery Console and run the chkdsk /r from there.

  • Hard drive, at default, installed the new hard drive, Windows XP Home Edition won't start more additon error 800b0100 does - is what I do?

My computer is 4-5 years: Inspiron 530, my operating system is Windows Home Edition SP. My hard drive has failed. I installed another hard, formatted drive with the CD that accompanies the Service Pack 2 computer, and then tried to install (from CD) Windows XP Home Edition, has received the error 800b0100 message.  What should I do?

    Hello

    1. what kind of hard drive you are using? IDE or SATA
    2. What is the full and exact error message?

Check if the following steps will help:

    1. While the installation program is running and the error message appears on the screen, press SHIFT + F10 to start a command prompt.
    2. at the command prompt, type cd\windows\system32\ and then press ENTER.
3 type rename catroot2 catold, press ENTER, and then restart the computer.

  • Image portable HARD drive for transfer to the new computer portable HARD drive on the same laptop

    Location:

    Laptop was to receive the new HARD drive more big;

Configuration is complex and has a lot of data and SW engineering.

Own re - install would take too long.

In operating systems earlier I just created an image, installed the new HARD disk and restored the image.

In Vista, it does not. New HARD drive with image does not start. (Partition is correctly selected as active)

Tried other methods, including Robocopy but without success.

Sysprep is the right solution? If so, how will this affect users profiles and installed applications?

    Thank you

    Paraxis

    Hi Paraxis,

Whenever we use the system image and restore from it, the hardware must be same, as has already been made to backup. The hard disk partition should also be in the same size.

You can use Sysprep on your computer and check if that helps you solve the problem.

Preparation system (Sysprep) tool is a technology that you can use with other deployment tools to install Windows on new hardware, operating systems. The Sysprep tool prepares a computer for imaging of disc or delivery to a customer of the configuration of the computer to create a new computer security identifier (SID) when the computer is restarted. In addition, the Sysprep tool cleans up user-specific and settings specific to the computer and the data that should not be copied to a destination computer.

Access the links below for more information on Sysprep.

  • I have virtualized my vista laptop hard drive to move on the new computer. WGA is eager for new registration.

I have virtualized my laptop so that I could have run on the new computer without having to reinstall 100 GB of programs. It's a Vista Home Premium OS which has been virtualized. The virtualized system Vista now tells me it is not authentic and 1, buy windows, 2 enter the product key, 3 contact Acer.  Well, 3 is probably a waste of time. So, I tried 2 with the key on the laptop.  WGA said it turned on, but the screen has not changed who says that's not authentic. so I said, that the heck, I'll go ahead and pay microsoft the ransome... Well well... your site says I can't buy vista as sell you is no longer... WHAT!  Now, I'm screwed or people a way you sell me a Vista key?

If it is an OEM license, then it is bound to the original laptop it was installed on.

  • Impossible to activate the new installation of Windows 7

I've done several installs clean on this computer without problem. This time, I'm unable to activate my copy of Windows 7

    Code: 0xC004C008
Description: The activation server determined that the specific product key could not be used.
    James

After windows has been activated on the internet a few times, he trips a switch and requires activation by telephone - the switch is reset, as I understand it.

If you have the habit of frequently reinstall, your best option is to take an image of the system the system completely installed and updated before you do anything with him-, and then reinstall the. This avoids the necessities of activation, update and reconfiguration.

  • The context of the menu hard drive problems - cannot remove the point of garbage

When right click on a drive (icon in the Explorer...) upwards appears familiar context menu.  The mine this counts as an item listed in the menu: \REGISTRY\]USERS\S-1-5-21... (many more numbers and letters).

I tried all the obvious stuff, including transplant, without successful surgery - looking for the above string is futile. Manually check each Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers.  Note that all other menus are very well.

How can I get rid of this, and more importantly, how did get there in the first place?

A second problem of context has also been raised: no Winrar command is listed. Notta.  Again, tried the obvious shots including UN and re - install Winrar.  A touch of Winrar is curiously the ContextMenuHandlers for folder, etc.  Why can't I see the usual orders of Winrar?

I look forward your answers :)

Without a subject "MISTLETOE" here, I've chosen 'Performance'... hope this is correct.

I found the answer: by using a context menu editor, I have disabled all non-microsoft components.  This fixes the problem with context menus HD (disk), but (as it turns out that) some file types have the same string of garbage in their menus!  While the rar, flv, txt

cfg files do not have this problem, exe, jpg, gif etc. are not! I applied the same method for the shortcuts in the menu "files" context and voila, it worked.

The offending program is of Stardock Iconpackager. HOW and WHY it has messed up my menus, I have no idea, but I would ask people to Stardock for a response.
