Help on the basics of understanding Oracle

I lived in the world of Microsoft SQL Server for years, and I'm about to start getting my feet wet in the world of the Oracle; problem is: I know jack-squat about Oracle.

Can someone direct me to a link/documentation on how to translate concepts of Microsoft SQL to Oracle?
IE Oracle made appeal to the SPID concept? In others: "Oh, spid number 47 blocking spid number 93. I'd kill better spid 47 "
Oracle gives the possibility to watch the index fragmentation (I would use DBCC Showcontig() in Microsoft for this)?
Is there an equivalent tool in Oracle to Microsoft SQL Profiler?
Is that a similar process to rebuild an index in Oracle like MSSQL?
Are levels of isolation in similar Oracle to MSSQL (readcommitted, readuncommited, etc.)?
Is the process of an application (perhaps .NET) to connect to a similar Oracle database, in theoretical and practical, to connect to a MSSQL Server?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place in the forum and if they are too simple questions, but any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Welcome! Lack of education is a solvable problem.

As others pointed out, start with the concepts manual. Go to asktom.oracle.com and follow the links to find his books.

IE Oracle made appeal to the SPID concept? In others: "Oh, spid number 47 blocking spid number 93. I'd kill better spid 47 "

Yes, but it is worth noting that the concepts manual explains in detail how this is quite different in Oracle. If the bulb lights up above your head, you can exclaim that it is much better as a default value. Bring attention to the coherence of reading and explanations locking.

Oracle gives the possibility to watch the index fragmentation (I would use DBCC Showcontig() in Microsoft for this)?

In Oracle, it's pretty rare that you actually have to deal with that. As others have noted, there is some controversy. See the blog of Richard Foote after down you the concepts.

Is there an equivalent tool in Oracle to Microsoft SQL Profiler?

There are a lot of tools. See the guide to performance and there is quite a few available in the dbconsole/Enterprise Manager. Be aware that you should not become dependent on the GUI tools, but should learn the underlying controls. Start with the manual of the Performance. Book Cary Millsap, consult.

Is that a similar process to rebuild an index in Oracle like MSSQL?

Once again, it is pretty rare, actually need to deal with this. You may encounter people who disagree. Be aware that they can be wrong. Some specific applications, it may be true.

Are levels of isolation in similar Oracle to MSSQL (readcommitted, readuncommited, etc.)?

See the guide to the concepts and Tom books.

Is the process of an application (perhaps .NET) to connect to a similar Oracle database, in theoretical and practical, to connect to a MSSQL Server?

There are many ways to connect. See the concepts guide. There are manuals of networking for more details. In addition, My Oracle Support has some documents and examples. You can use vulgar ways to connect, if that is appropriate depends on what you are doing.

Everyone starts somewhere. You will have a lot of help if you show that you are willing to put the time and effort in. You can get a lot of response as "it depends...". "You can download and start trying some things! You will have to unlearn some misconceptions. Good luck!

  • Need help with the basic steps to create ebook

I have a confession: I use constantly solutions instead of stop and learn the right way to use Indesign to create ebooks. I wouldn't say that I'm doing it because I'm lazy, but because I'm simply inept lol. Here are some of the basic steps I take:

    1. create the document: include the block of text type (because I want the page numbers to display)

2 paste the unformatted document text

    3. adjust the size of the main frame to produce the text of the appropriate margins (because its an ebook, left/right margin even opposing pages.)

    4. highlight all of the text, set the spacing before and after the paragraph halfway through the character before (the bottom text is at the same point for each page)

    5. go in the titles of chapters; do jumps from title page has its own page; Highlight the title, choose the font, the size; create the new character style; apply the style to other chapter titles (it is possible to create a ctrl + number shortcut to apply character styles?). Note that I did not create a character for the body text style. I'm just doing the first?

6 Insert markers page number on both master pages, then cover page number with a white box on the first page of the chapters.

    7. remove photos in textbox so that if more text is added, the photos move with the text.

That's basically what I do when I create an ebook. Any suggestions as to best/way to do these things would be very appreciated.

    1. the master text blocks have nothing to do with page numbers and in most cases are completely unnecessary. Set the margins of appropriately and place your text.

    2. without knowing what you leave on it is impossible to tell if it's a good idea or not. My stomach says is not. See number 1.

    3 see number 1.

    4. it's what paragraph styles are for.

    5. see number 4.

    6. This is what the multiple master pages are for. Stop doing that.

    7. well, you finally have a right. As my people... would say mazel tov.

Now, it's time to stop being inept (your Word, not mine) and start learning the right way to do it. First thing we do, is buy Visual Sandee Cohen of Quick Start Guide. It's the best InDesign book market for beginners. http://AMZN.to/plsvxy

  • Help with the problem of understanding ip address

    Hello

Can anyone help me please with this. I grabbed the following to my pix 515e worm (6.2):

    IP address dmz xxx.xxx.210.72 255.255.255.248

But I got the following response:

IP and subnet mask can be an invalid pair

I don't see why this is here. Can someone please explain it to me. I don't see anything wrong with the ip address and the subnet.

    Thank you

    Dan

Amigo, solve, it's very simple: (courses of subnetting recalled CCNA)

your subnet mask is 255.255.255.192 (26 decimal)

The interesting octet in mask is so--> 192

and--> 64 is interesting byte of the address

    (1) find the magic number, having subtracted:

    256 interesting byte mask-> 256-192 = 64

    (2) find a Multiple of magic number (here: 64) that is less than or equal to interestzing byte of address (also 64).

    Then first Multiple of 64 = 64,

Then start your work 64 subnets

    1 subnet 255.255.255.64.

-> Add 64 to find the following subnets: always<>

    2nd 255.255.255.128 subnet

    3rd 255.255.255.192 subnet

IF YOUR AVAILABLE in 1 subnet IP ADDRESSES are: xxx.xxx.210.65 to: xxx.xxx.210.126

Don't forget xxx.xxx.210.64 and xxx.xxx.210.127 are not allowed as an IP address (subnet number and dissemination)

    Now, if you want subnets with 8 welcomes everyone, then you solve (2 ^ y - 2 = 8) or (2 ^ y = 10)

    You'll have y = 4

    (because 2 ^ 4 = 16 and 2 ^ 3 = 8 which is unsuffisant)

Therefore, book 4 bits for subnetting.

So, your subnet mask is 32-4 = 28 decimal places

Which means that it is 255.255.255.240

    240 = 128 + 64 + 32 + 16 (2 ^ 7 2 ^ 6 + 2 ^ 5 + 2 ^ 4)

To find the Ip addresses available for 28, same reasoning as above (the magic number is 16 here)

For example, they are xxx.xxx.210.65 to xxx.xxx.210.78

xxx.xxx.210.79 is not allowed (emission) and in

this case you have 14 addresses available

  • Need help on the limits of understanding for extended documents

Help! I work for a University and our academic advisor service includes academic worksheets that show all the required courses for each major. We strive to create spreadsheets in the forms, however, not all of our advisors have Acrobat Pro (they drive IX). Adobe support says that there are limitations in the number of copies of forms that are deployed and the number of recipients (500 limit for each). Advisors will enter our shared drive to access spreadsheets to fill and fill them for students facing us. We will then use the submit button that attaches the completed worksheet to our e-mail. We will then send the attachment to the student and save a copy in our repository of documents, Image now. When students return a date each semester, recover us the file from the repository of documents and to update and re - send the student and save it again in the repository. We are concerned that we run a problem with the number of times that we can do. The limit of 500 'deployment' and beneficiaries applies in this case of what we are trying to do?

For Acrobat Reader XI you need not drive to extend forms.

  • Need help with the basic graphics

    Hi all

I started trying to familiarize themselves with the development on the Blackberry. It seems

easy just use the standard of review, but becomes frustrating when I try to

paint the screen exclusively from the Graphics object.

My test program extends from the screen. The screen has a background

and the moving objects, but flickers (at least in the Blackberry JDE 4.7).

The flicker is reduced more when I work with the Graphics object

directly. If I write an object buffer Bitmap, drawBitmap back to the

main screens, flickering Graphics object is ridiculous.

I've seen other discussions where people told of using MIDlets or extend from BlackBerryCanvas or GameCanvas.

Try one of those who seems to make everything harder than it should be.

Is there a single best way to do a screen play?

Pointers, links, tips, samples,... would be greatly appreciated.

One of the basic directions using Oracle, we should NOT, do not create your own procedures user SYS (or tables also). SYS is the datadictionary. That the datadictionary is changed automatically when importing, it is never exported: provided non-Oracle of objects are ignored.
    System: essentially the same question.

Why you have this 'problem '.
Just because you don't read the documentation and do not want to check for errors in the online documentation.

Would you do that, you would have known
SYSMAN would need to execute privilege
You have put in place a public synonym.

HI: I analyze the STATSPACK report: this is the "volume test" on our UAT server for most of entry or "bind variables".  Our shared pool is well used in oracle.  Recovery of Oracle logs is not configured properly on this server, as in "Top 5 events of waiting", there are 2 for Oder.

    Hello

I think that your CPU is overloaded by your stress tests. You have one VCPU with 2 wires (2 LCPU), right? And the load average is greater than one. You have time DB which is not counted in (CPU time + wait events) and which comes no doubt from time spent in the runqueue.

    > Oracle recovery logs is not properly configured on this server, as in "Top 5 events of waiting", there are 2 for oder

It is an error in statspack for show "log file parallel write here." This moment is historical and is included in 'log file sync '. And I don't think you have to redo misconfiguration. Waiting for 1ms to commit is ok. In OLTP you should have more than one validation in a user interaction so that the user don't worry not about 1 m in batch mode, unless you commit to each row, 1 DC to commit should not increase the total execution time.

The fact that you have a lot of line lock (enq: TX - line lock conflict) but very little time (on average 97 ms) is probably a sign that testers are running simultaneously a charge affecting the same data. Their set of test data is perhaps too simple and short. An example: when stress tests of an order entry system if you run 1000 concurrent sessions, ordering the same product to the same customer, you can get this kind of symptoms, but the test we unrealistic.

It's a high activity of 2000 calls per second, 52 transactions per second, user. But you also have low average active sessions, so the report probably covers a period of non-uniform activity, which makes the averages without meaning.

So note to tell about the events of waiting here. But we don't have any info about 39% of DB time devoted to the CPU which is where something can be improved.

    Kind regards

    Franck.

I don't have the basic games that windows comes with and also miss me the contacts and calendar.  Please help someone.  I had windows 7 through my school, which is outside the MSDN program.

Programs like Contacts and calendar are available in Windows Live Mail through Windows Live Essentials (http://download.live.com)

In regards to the games, I assume that you are running Windows 7 Professional.

We're just facing some misinformation: creative cloud, CC of Photoshop, Photoshop CC2014 are NO CLOUD. Yes, it is a name quite stupid, because.

They install and run locally exactly like previous versions. They are different in three ways:

    1. simple integration of cloud services from Adobe to keep the files, which you can ignore.

    2 subscription only.

    3. you will need to regularly connect to the internet to verify your subscription status. Not sure it can be monthly. This could still be unsuitable for you of course.

This is a common problem. The basic Panel is simply hidden.

Billboards / of masking is actually a function of Lightroom, but it is intuitive--not many people know that there are - for the most newcomers are thrown when a Panel is somehow hidden.

Right-click anywhere in the area of the Panel on the right hand side and a context menu will appear.

Click on the basic option to re - appear the basic Panel.

    ZAHID RASHEED.

    Hi Zahid,
This OS is a version of Windows 7 home basic? It is not supported.
You must install (or virtualize) a free version of Linux (openSuse or OEL): it would save a lot of time.
    Best regards
    Phil
