Help on using paragraph styles...

When I create a paragraph of a bit of text style, paragraph style area picks him up and when the preview is checked it looks perfect, then when I press on apply, completely it messes up. The text reduced one, and sometimes it turns into itallics.

Nobody knows the reason why this is happening?

Thank you very much

Sam

I saw this happen when a character Style is applied to the text. Select all the text in a paragraph and character Styles palette, choose break link to Style, do the same thing in the paragraph Style palette (just to be safe), and then create a new paragraph style.

    I've been there. It was a long time ago, but I still remember the confusion and despair.

    First, know that you will survive and ask what was the hang up. If you are a special person, do you promise never to forget what was the hang up, then you can help others when it is time to pay back the community.

    Think about how things work without paragraph styles. When you want a paragraph to look a certain way, regardless of the software you have used to work with text, you select ("highlight") some text and look for ways to style it (check its appearance, or 'attributes' or 'features' or 'features'.) You choose a font (Helvetica, Times, etc.) weight ("BOLD", extra bold, light), a color of text, an angle (italic, Roman), the space between the lines ("leading,") space between paragraphs (space before, space after,) and so on. Without named styles, you must select each property in a menu or a list when the text is selected. The next time that you want this same paragraph look, you can recall everything you did and repeat with newly selected text, or you can copy and paste one that looks, then change the text inside.

    However, it does take long to realize that he has to be a way to save these settings and pull them up and slap them on the other selections, with a few clicks and make sure that you don't forget to do something. Creation and registration of collection of a paragraph of the property settings are called "define a style." Software for manipulation of more modern text can save paragraph styles that apply to full paragraphs, and they can also save character styles, which apply to parts of the text in a paragraph. A paragraph of normal text can be used a style called 'body '. You can select a bunch of miscellaneously style paragraphs and apply the body style for them with a single click on the paragraph styles list.

    If you decide that you would like the body to look different style, you can redefine, and all paragraphs in the active document using the body style change to show the look of the new definition.

    In a body paragraph, you can have same bold italic bold text and italictext and so on. You can always select text in a paragraph and find a menu that offers characters bold or italic in the selected text. But you can also create a character for each of these apparitions style and apply them to music. As for paragraph styles, character styles are more controllable and more useful than simply highlight and apply a property. If, you use a character style that applies "BOLD", you can change its character style definition and all the places it is used in a document will show the change.

    Here is an example which shows the usefulness of the styles of characters named:

    According to the standard style for writing guides that have been developed before computers, scientific names, the words of the foreign language in a host as the English language, the titles of the documents, movies and poems and a few other things are supposed to be italicized. With character styles, you can create and apply styles of characters for each category of text in italics. In this forum, * sapiens, The Pentagon Papers and Gone With the Wind, all look the same, but with character styles, styles, named 'scientificName', 'bookTitle', and 'filmTitle', can distinguish between texts in italics. Sometimes, you gotta be able to treat these things differently, and styles is a way to keep them organized.

    Most writing tools can create a style named for the existing sample. So, if you have customized a paragraph for your body text, you can use InDesign to set the body of the paragraph in the example chosen style.

    Google search for terms like 'InDesign create the paragraph of the selection style,' "InDesign redefine style', 'Create a character style, InDesign' and"InDesign tutorial character and paragraph styles."

  • Using paragraph styles with numbered lists having paragraphs "child."

    Hi all

    I wanted just a checking the direction of your InDesign experts.

    When I create a numbered list when there are paragraphs separate 'child' who "belong" to the paragraph numbered list real (see below) how do I use paragraph styles for formatting the list?

    Currently I apply a style numbered list to each of the bold numbered paragraphs and just a style of body text indented paragraphs of the child. Is this fair?

    3.1 it is a topic but also a part of a numbered list

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    3.2 it comes is a topic, but also part of a numbered list

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    3.2 it is a topic but as part of a list numbered

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    Also, is there a power automatically apply a style to the last bullet in a list (as with the last CSS child selector) so that I can have a small space after each of my balls except the last one where I would want a larger space.

    Is this fair? Yes. And if you want the style of paragraph number somehow, each model numbered to give his name to the list.

    The styles will be applied by you. To get the last point in space after, add this attribute to its own paragraph style, perhaps also giving it a keep with previous keep option.

    Or give more simple, perhaps the paragraph numbered line style certain amount of space before as one of its attributes under withdrawal and spacing.

  • Problem of numbered list in InDesign using paragraph Styles Code syntax highlighter

    Code can be copied and pasted, or can be typed and styles work well. codehighlighter_indesign.jpg.

    My only problem is with the numbering.

    I've implemented a character list ordered for my type of chip.

    Although the size of characters must be greater than the size of the code in order to get the character bar to connect and be a solid line.

    Is there a way to have the same size font for the numbering and the code and a bar of character which will connect? Do not be destroyed, because the separator between the numbered lines and the code?

    Also it doesn't seem to be a way to change the color or the weight of the bar (it must be the same color as the number) with a bar automatically generate? Is it possible?

    Here is an example of my InDesign CC 2015.4 German I did with a numbered list numbering and bar with a shading of paragraph:

    Note that the width of the 'bar' would change, if you change the width of the text block.

  • Paragraph styles question: is it me?

    Whenever I create or even try to apply a paragraph style in the ID, despite the size of the font, I indicated in the style, and whatever style I choose, my fonts appear on the page as 24 points. I tried to delete styles and start again, but no luck. It's stopping me from using paragraph styles and forces me to use manual formatting everything until I get this fixed. Could sure use some help!

    Check your character Styles palette. There must be a character active 24pt style. (By design) character styles replace paragraph styles. Character change none style, and that should fix.

  • paragraph styles

    without valid reason I later move to really use paragraph styles. but I encountered a small problem. the document that I'm actually has a TON of garbage styles attached to it from the word document (which has an OCR would scan...). But right now, I'm going to have this problem when I try to apply styles for titles and whatnot, but the style is applied to more than what is highlighted, probably only indesign because I'm stressing only part of a "paragraph", and it's all 'paragraph', even if it is actually just part of a title. Is there a way for the UN-paragraphize things? For things before and after should not be the same style? Mac/CS6

    As a trainer, I am obliged to pop and suggest take you back and learn the two functions that are themselves Scrums first, and then you can return to your document and hit the ground running.

  • What I am doing wrong? Paragraph style?

    As long as I've been designing I never used paragraph styles. I have a great publication to do so I thought I would start to use in this publication. Wow, I have to do something wrong because he's pretending not as simple as it should.

    in any case... I'm on a master page and page headers. I have the margins a.25 inches. When I move the text to the top of the page box, the text box is empty (and red, that instead of "text more" appears). I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I checked every possible preference, which I can understand. I have probably inadvertently changed a few things at the same time as well.

    EDIT: It seems that it does now all over the page. If I use the arrow keys to move around, it is white, words appear in the box, then white then the words appear, then empty?

    No idea what I'm doing wrong. I'm so frustrated.

    I use Indesign CS3 on a PC.

    Looks like it is aligned to a baseline grid.

  • Bike via script of paragraph styles - need help

    Hello

    I have a large document (potentially 3000 pages), on each page is a picture of a picture frame and inside each image is a famous quote. I need to type in each quote so I have 10 configuration value different paragraph styles in a different font. I need a script that applies "QuoteStyle1" the text on the first page, "QuoteStyle2" on the next page, etc., and once that 'QuoteStyle10' has been applied the script performs a loop and continues to scroll through the styles apply a style that is different on each page, until it reaches the end of the document.

    I got a start on the script (see image), but I think the problem is the line 11 - I want to run the script without having to select anything.

    Some additional info that may or may not be of use - all quotes are drawn from a data merge. There is also a name and a color from the data merge. The background on each frame is a different color and that is created with the a very large 'rule below' in a number of other paragraph styles. They are applied with a 'Find & ReplacebyList' i.e. find replace 'Red' with the paragraph style "ColourRed. In the script, I tried to ignore these "color" paragraph styles (lines 2-9) is only the 'quote' styles that the effects of the script.

    Any help getting this race would be more useful.Screen Shot 2015-07-15 at 10.01.20.png

    First of all congratulations for the very creative use of blending modes. I would have never thought about it by myself.

    Now, for the script, here are two ways to do it (both enjoy the fact that you use a paragraph style BaseQuote):

    (1) use a grep search:

    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var baseQ=doc.paragraphStyles.item('BaseQuoteStyle');
    var switchToStyles=[
    'QuoteStyle1',
    'QuoteStyle2',
    'QuoteStyle3',
    'QuoteStyle4',
    'QuoteStyle5',
    'QuoteStyle6',
    'QuoteStyle7',
    'QuoteStyle8',
    'QuoteStyle9',
    'QuoteStyle10'];
    var l=switchToStyles.length;
    app.findGrepPreferences=app.findChangeGrepOptions=null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle=baseQ;
    app.findChangeGrepOptions.includeMasterPages=false;
    var quotes=doc.findGrep();
    for (var i=0; i

    (2) scroll all managers of related texts:

    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var baseQ=doc.paragraphStyles.item('BaseQuoteStyle');
    var pags=doc.pages.everyItem().getElements();
    var switchToStyles=[
    'QuoteStyle1',
    'QuoteStyle2',
    'QuoteStyle3',
    'QuoteStyle4',
    'QuoteStyle5',
    'QuoteStyle6',
    'QuoteStyle7',
    'QuoteStyle8',
    'QuoteStyle9',
    'QuoteStyle10'];
    var l=switchToStyles.length;

  • I've updated all paragraph styles in my site, but the code is not generating of heading and paragraph tags.  Help!

    Try to increase the SEO on my site of Muse.  I didn't know I could implement paragraph styles when I first built the site.  Just went and built styles but the generated HTML map includes all the text in the img tags instead of the header/paragraph tags.  Help!

    For me it looks like you are using non-InDesign. If they are not web fonts or you've applied things like a shadow to him, then it will convert the text to a picture in which you can apply tags: for.

  • In a paragraph style, is it possible to automatically change a space in the area of district using GREP sty

    I create a menu template that will be used by my client. I'm using a font that has a very wide space between the two words. I can combined a quarter space instead of a regular space between words. This works for me, but won't work for the customer.

    If I create a paragraph style, is it possible to use GREP to automatically change the space in the area of district? and if so, what this text GREP would look like?

    Jump_Over, that did the trick! I'm just starting to learn more about the power of GREP in indesign and have still a long way to go.

  • Using variants of glyphs in a paragraph style

    Hello world

    I am tempted to use variations of glyphs in a paragraph style.

    The default glyph (1) of the police I am according to looks like a bar (I) and the brand for this project guidelines require all instances of the 1A resemble a 1 with the bar that goes down to the upper bound. The fonts I use (Gill Sans MT Pro) has an alternate glyph, and I was able to do this before, but for some reason, it does not work now.

    Here is what I got the last time: I added the replacement glyph to a glyph, and then set 'games of stylisitic' to the value 1 in the paragraph style opentype features section. For some reason, it did not work this time.

    Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks for your help!

    Jacob

    Huh. I can get it to turn on and off for a paragraph via the script style:

    the value myPara the paragraph style "Body".

    define stylistic OTF replacing the true myPara

    ... but I do not see where to put that in the GUI in CS5.5. It affects the appearance of the type and appears in the general > pane Style from the paragraph Style settings Options Panel, but I can't see where to set it manually.

  • Use GREP to apply paragraph styles, character styles not only

    I have a body of text, and in it, I would like to apply a specific style to the paragraphs corresponding to a model. I did a GREP style that applied some changes formatting of paragraphs, I tried that it affects, but in doing so, I found that I couldn't Center these lines using a character style. (The corresponding lines should be centered, and the rest should be left aligned.)

    I was thrilled to learn that the GREP function, then completely disappointed with this limitation. InDesign offers the possibility to automate this, so I must not cross and Center each paragraph corresponding to the hand?

    Thank you!

    InDesign provides a way to automate this so?

    Yes and no. There is no dynamically linked paragraph styles to a paragraph about his boss, but he has at least two alternatives:

    (1) use Grep-F/C

    (2) use the script FindChangeByList or MultiFindChange which is basically automate operations F/C

  • Cannot find the paragraph style, which is apparently in use

    Hello.

    I'm working on a document with the text that I have imported the word. After you have applied all my character and paragraph styles, I check to see if there are styles original Word still in use. Can I do a search/replace for those still persistent and change them to mine. There is a paragraph style, named normal, what don't get me. It seems to be in use - when I try to remove it, he asks what style should be used to replace it. It shows also upward on the Panel of cross references when I try to create a new cross reference. I tried to change its definitions to something with the big guy and a strong color, so I could find it easily on the pages, but not luck. When I use find/replace to the style, I get the message "cannot find match". I even tried the police search of the style, I do not use on my styles, but nothing appears. Am I missing something?

    Thank you.
