  • How can I delete a corrupted file in win xp?

Any attempt of deleting files from windows\downloaded program files - will not defragment the disk until the damaged files are deleted

    Spitzbub,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

Try to run disk cleaner everything first:

The Disk Cleanup tool lets you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that you can safely remove. You can choose to delete some or all of the files. Use Disk Cleanup to perform the following tasks to free up space on your hard disk:

    • Delete temporary Internet files.
    • Delete downloaded program files. For example, controls ActiveX and Java applets that are downloaded from the Internet.
    • Empty the trash.
    • Remove Windows temporary files.
    • Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
    • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

You can start disk cleanup, by doing one of the following:

    • Click Startand then click run. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and then click OK.

      -or-

    • Click Start, point to programs, point to Accessories, point to System Toolsand then click on Disk Cleanup.

      -or-

    • In Windows Explorer or my computer, right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, click Properties, click the general tab and then click on Disk Cleanup.

Remove files stored on your hard drive

To remove files stored on your hard disk that you no longer use, follow these steps:

    1. Click Startand then click my computer.
    2. Right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the general tab, and then click Disk Cleanup.
    4. Click the Disk Cleanup tab (if it is not already selected), click to select the check boxes beside the files that you want to remove, and then click OK.
    5. Click Yes to continue it with this action, and then click OK.

    Option 2

Start your computer in safe mode , and then delete the file there.

    Option 3

Some people have found a solution here.

    I hope this helps!

Hello Richard_Peck, I'm afraid that's not possible to restore these entries unfortunately. downloads & history are not considered as precious as your bookmarks, so firefox won't create backups automated them. only if you have a manual of your profile folder backup or any available hard disk, it would be possible to retrieve the download history...

I would like to inform you that if it's a parallel installation as you have indicated, that the only resolution taken in charge is to back up your data and format your hard disk by performing a clean install.

  • How can I delete old windows files that seem to occupy a large part of my hard drive. I use Vista Home. I have reininstalled OS but only saved the files I never cleaned up old windows.

I use an older Dell that was handed to them. There are several problems with it and I finally reinstalled winows vista home and worked my way through the updates. Now, the system works well for me but the hard disk is almost full. When I look at the pie it shows post-colonial windows most of the space. I think I should remove the old windows files. Any help? • How can I delete all related files to Itunes from my PC.

I am trying to completely remove iTunes and all the files associated with my PC. NOT my account, just the files on my PC.

I have followed the instructions to uninstall, followed all the steps and even manually delete the folders he has missed.

However my file finder TreeSize shows that I still have files in C: User\User\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer (9 GB) and C: User\User\My Music\iTunes (40 GB). There are also various other thoughts distributed files itunes my PC on < 10 GB) additional data...

It is safe for me just delete the Apple Computer under the roaming and the iTunes under my music file?

The uninstall wizard should not deleted at all.

Help, please. my 100 GB OS drive that was supposed to be strictly for the operating system is almost full and iTunes is by far the largest single item on the road next to my windows 7.

You have an iOS device? I think that 10 GB of data will be backup iOS device. See move backups device iOS for a method to move data to a different drive. See the rest of the tip to make sure that your library is properly organized away from the system drive.
