  Always download it directly in your file by default when you click Save to save a download.  But if you click on "save under" pop opens a dialog box, your default download folder is not considered nor asked from the registry at all.  In fact the browser don't even remember the last folder you had open here in a dialog box, which is a service "ideally" provided by the dialog manager common shell.
