How can I transfer iPhotos to an iMac like photos in a new MBPro?

I have an older iMac with photos in iPhoto that I would like to transfer my new MBPro.  There are some of the same photos in pictures on my MBP that have been migrated to my new of my defunct MBPro.

I'd appreciate your suggestions and help.

  • Or export photos from iPhoto on your old mac and transfer the photos of exprted on a MacBok Pro and then import them to Photos. The import Panel may be able to detect duplicates and warn you, if you try to import the same files.
  • Or copy the iPhoto library into the new Mac and open it in Photos to transform it into a library of Photos. Alternatively, you can open libraries in the Photos. If you use iCloud photo library and enough iCloud storage, you can download the second library iCloud and s witch then return to your library. The libraries will be merged in iCloud.
  • If you have PowerPhotos you can use to compare your two libraries, find duplicates and merge libraries.
