First of all, note that you should be concerned all the programs
starts automatically, not only those who enter in the system tray.
Not all the programs auto-start manifesting by an icon in the
Status bar.

On each program, you don't want to automatically start, check its
Options to see if he has the choice of not start (make sure you)
Indeed choose not to run, not just a "don't show icon.
Optional). Many can easily and better be arrested like that. If that is not
work, run MSCONFIG from the start. Run the line, and then click the Startup tab.
Uncheck the programs that you do not want to automatically start.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do it just for the application of
the minimum number of running programs. Despite what many people say
You should be concerned, not with the way that a lot of these programs
you run, but who. Some of them can degrade performance severely, but
others have no effect on performance.

Don't stop all programs to run willy-nilly. What you need to do
is to determine what each program is, what its value is up to you which
the performance cost is its running all the time. You can try
Internet search and ask questions about the details here.

Once you have this information, you can make a smart informed
decision on what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

  • Change the e-mail program that opens when I click on a link in a document

Clicking on an email address in a pdf document in Acrobat Reader, Mac Mail will open instead of the e-mail program I use, Outlook for Mac 2011.  How can I change the default program that opens when you click on a link?

    Hi Meenakshi,

I assume you mean Adobe Reader > Preferences > e-mail accounts.  I did already but get an error message: "Error communicating with the server" when I try to send a PDF by e-mail (file > Send file > Attach to Email), even if the parameters are exactly the same as in Outlook.  Don't know how to solve this problem, although simple workaround is just to save the file locally and then send it as an attachment from Outlook itself.

But with regard to the specific question that I asked originally, I don't try to send a document as an attachment; I am trying to send an e-mail to a hyperlink address embedded in a pdf document open. It seems the setting that you referenced only affects how documents are sent as an attachment, not what client opens when you click on a link embedded in a pdf document e-mail.

Anyway, I solved the problem of the latter: in OSX, please make sure that in the native Mail application that the default mail reader is the application that you want to use ALL the programs/applications (Mail > preferences > General > default email reader), including Adobe Reader.  Once I put this in Outlook, click an address for e-mail embedded in a document pdf opens Outlook with the address already in the field "to".

  • Office 2010 does not display in the list of programs that can be set as the default value in Windows 7

I have Office 2010 Home and Student installed on my Pavilion p6367 c - b, which is under W7 Home Premium.

If I open Word or Excel and then use the open function to open a file, the file opens without any problem.  However, when I try to open a document or a spreadsheet by clicking on it directly (for example, in windows Explorer or a shortcut to this file), I get a message that says: there is no program associated with this file type and "create an association in the default program control panel.

Unfortunately, when I go on this Panel, Office is not shown as one of the programs that I choose and I see nothing to add.  I know I must be missing something but...

I hope someone can help me!

    Thank you.

    Hi, once again, Rick:

I played a bit with change the types of files on a Vista computer, I was working on that. I thought I had to use WinZip to open a file that had no association.

When I went to the list of available programs that is given to me, WinZip was not an option to choose. If it sounds the same problem you are having. You access the list to select an Office application to open a file and it is not among the list of available programs.

I thought it was weird, so I played a little bit more. If you go on the left side of the box, you should have options to look for other places, so I went to computer > CProgam files and then I scrolled down and found in WinZip. Then, I open the WinZip program menu and select the executable file to open the file.  It worked (well, he gave me WinZip as default program to open the file, but the file does not open. It must have been corrupted or something).

Then, give that a try. I am now back on the XP computer and do not have access to the specifics. But the procedure for file association for Vista is the same as W7. I write from memory of what I did last night.

  • Accidents to the list of programs that allows, under Parental control

I'm running Windows 7 Pro. When I'm trying to set up parental controls on a user, I get an Explorer error that is reported and terminates the process.  Can not put in place. Specifically what happens under Parental controls, allow and block specific programs, can only use the programs I allow it, he seems to try to generate a list when it crashes.  Y at - it a patch known or is it possible to correct by repair of the system disk.

Thanks for the reply.  I finally determined with the help of Microsoft that my installation is corrupted some how.  I reloaded the OS and the problem disappeared.

  • "No access to the network" problem in Windows 7 and error message "your computer seems to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS SERVER) is not responding."

Hello, I have a desktop PC and a laptop (DELL Inspiron N-4050).
I have problem with my internet connection cable which is working fine on my PC, but does not not on my laptop giving an error "no access to the network.

When I troubleshoot it says "your computer seems to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS SERVER) is not responding."
I said to many technicians of microsoft online response, but they could not solve my problem and said this is my DNS problem and advised me to contact my Internet service provider. Guess it's because of my internet so why it works on my PC not on laptop?

Yesterday, my ethernet cable pulled out my cell phone and I couldn't connect to the internet more. But on my desktop PC, it works perfectly fine. (I do not use wifi, if this information is also required) I have studied several threads with similar situations, and I have tried different methods to solve the problem to no avail. I did a system restore, but I'm having no luck. Also, I did not of the latest changes with my anti virus software and my LAN card drivers look to date.

When I remove my cable from the laptop and again connect my cable then it works but only after the PC sat for awhile.
1.I did flush DNS by typing "ipconfig/flushdns" in the command prompt.
    2. my IP address, DNS, subnet mask etc are set to automatic.
3.I also added physical address taken from command line giving "ipconfig/all". for the properties of the network driver settings.
4.I ' installed the drivers to date of 2014 on my laptop.
5.I did a lot of searching the web, but they do not solve my problem.

Please help me to solve it.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thank you.

    Hello 42tank,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

The history list is the only place that Web sites is stored unless you have installed a monitoring/parental control program. Once history has been removed, the information has disappeared. You can use Windows Live Family Safety on Windows XP SP2 and later versions to keep track of internet activity even if the history is cleared. Follow the link below for more information.

  • How to change the programs that load when Windows starts

In simple terms... How to change the programs that load when Windows starts?  Because my boot time is slow in arriving at my login screen!

Download and run the "Autoruns" from Microsoft Sysinternals freeware:

It lists all programs that start at startup and allows you to disable it by simply removing a check mark.  This makes it easy to reverse in case something goes wrong.

  • Where can I get a list and a description of the programs that load when I turn on my computer?

I recently bought a Pavilion p7-1010 PC with operating system Windows 7. On my previous HP, I got a list of programs that started when I turned on my computer and those to whom I could remove to start which were really not essential to have running.

Is there a place I can find a similar list for this computer and possibly a recommendation for those who I can disable.

    Thank you

rmh56 wrote: thank you for your response Hanspuppa, I am interested in more information on the programs that appear when I start up so that I can determine which are needed and which are not. I want to stop at the start of all programs that are not essential to the functioning of my computer. On my last computer someone gave me a list or a link to a list of programs that allowed me to learn more about the various programs, which were important. Thank you, rmh

Hello rmh56, what would be a little difficult to determine, given that every computer comes with different programs.

I have no way of knowing how to determine which programs can be prevented from leaving on a particular computer.

You can try unchecking each of those entries one at a time and restart the system, or log and see if the programs perform normally, but this could be a very long process.

Unless you are certain that a program is not necessary, I would leave checked.

I just checked my startup programs and I shows that I have 15 startup programs.

This doesn't seem to affect my system performance at all. I check all out them.
