I had to create another profile.

Firefox made regular bookmark backups, so that you can restore the backup from your old profile to the new. Although, I suppose that the user is unable to connect, you always have access to its files.

First of all, make sure that Windows allows you to see the hidden files and folders. This article has the steps if necessary: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

Then, down the old profile and copy out a few last backups to a more convenient location. You'll look here:

    C:\Users\oldusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\semi-random-name\bookmarkbackups

File names include a data and County bookmark as well as random characters. I suggest you copy the last two at your new desktop or documents folder.

In Firefox, you can restore the backup file by following the steps in this article: restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer. Use the option "Choose file" to find backups in your office or documents, as appropriate.

Note: You could bookmark that something already in Firefox, but those that are not merged, they are replaced, so if they are essential, you can export your current bookmarks to HTML format, which can be imported from non-destructively after restoring. See:

  • How to get the Favorites lost after a reset?

I did a factory reset on my laptop and all my files backed up on an external hard drive, but I forgot to save my favorites. After that I gave my computer to its factory and loaded settings near the top of Mozilla Firefox, I realized that all my favorites have disappeared. What can I do to get back them? How can I get back them easily? Is there a trick? A program to use?

Thanks for the responses, but none of them were useful. I said that I did a factory reset which causes a bookmark restoration dates be reset.

Here is what fixed my problem:

    1. Download, install and run a program of recovery as EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard file and do a full scan of your hard disk (c :))
    2. Locate a backup of the file "Places.sqlite" (the file that contains the entire library of bookmarks)
    3. Retrieve and save this file on a flash drive
    4. Go to: computer (c) > users > yourname > AppData > Roaming > Mozilla > Firefox > profiles - there must be a visible profile folder (example: x00000.default)
    5. Go to the profile folder and delete all files with "places.sqlite" in the name of the file (should be 1-3 files).
    6. Insert the backup that you saved "places.sqlite" in the profile folder
    7. Start Mozilla Firefox, and then press Ctrl + Shift + B.

There is no real problem with that solution for others try. If something does not work, it is because the instructions were not followed properly, or there is simply no bookmarks backup file to recover. What you need is saved in the file "places.sqlite" Mozilla read it when starting the browser and automatically reveal all bookmarks that were supported on this file at the time the backup was created, if its crucial you retrieve this file.

I hope this helps others, because I had to find this solution on my own.

  • How to make a favorite button in the toolbar. MSN has a favorite yellow button in the toolbar

I don't see a Favorites button in the toolbar

There is a star as the button next to the search bar on the Navigation toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show bookmarks" button next to it to open bookmarks in a menu drop-down.

You can find "Show all bookmarks" to open the Manager of bookmarks (library) at the top of the drop-down list.

If you bookmark a page and then 'Bookmark this Page' in the bookmarks menu as well as the ToolTip changes star in "Edit this bookmark", and the star is highlighted in blue.

  • How can I remove favorites all items in my Inbox?

Trying to clean up my Inbox, I wonder how to remove all star emails?

It is the yellow star, 5 points?

    I could do this:

    2. Use ctrl + a to select all displayed messages.

    3. Scroll down after the last star element and shift-click to select all of the messages between the two.

  • I get an error "unable to load XPCOM. I know that I can reinstall Firefox but how to save my favorites?

I get an error "unable to load XPCOM. I know that I can reinstall Firefox, but when I went to do that he erased all my favorites that I did a system restore. How to backup my bookmarks?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.

    • Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but do NOT delete personal data when you uninstall Firefox which removes all Firefox profile folders and you lose your data.

If you keep problems also create a new profile.

  • How can I search Favorites?

How to search a specific bookmark? No, not "sort" bookmarks to find (I know not which of many files, it is). I need some sort of field research, or similar, where I type words in the name of the bookmark. This has existed in FF28 but I can't find it in 29.

    Thank you!

    Wind 8.1, FF29

    • You can search bookmarks in the location bar by prefixing your query with an asterisk, for example * support mozilla
    • You can search for bookmarks in the search bar in the box of Favorites (Ctrl + B; Mac: Command + B).
    • You can search for bookmarks in the search bar in the library (Ctrl + Shift + B; Linux: Ctrl + Shift + O. Mac: Command + SHIFT + B).

However, none of the above search methods will show you in the folder in which resides a bookmark. You can remedy this situation with the following modules.

  • How to restore my favorite layout?

I had the update v29 fast today and found my layout totally broken after the reboot. This "more customizable never" version I can't spend many UI elements that have been previously fully customizable, and other elements are inseparably together.

I tried the classic complement restaurateur theme, but is not fully restore the ability to customize the interface, and I have been unable to emulate my old layout.

A screenshot of my favorite layout can help to understand what I'm looking for:
    https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7297/14150900215_f73c613720_o_d.PNG

If the user interface remained fully customizable, I could live with the space wasted on the screen and the ugly graphics, but in its current state, I can't stand it. The flexible interface was the main reason why I like Firefox, and it seems that it will disappear forever.

For the moment, I went on the channel of the ESR, but it's only a matter of time before the new user interface is introduced here, too...

    1. Classic restaurateur theme installation and restart Firefox when prompted.
    2. Open the modules (Ctrl + Shift + A Manager; Mac: Command + shift + A), then the Extensions category.
    3. Beside the classical restaurant theme, click on the Options button.
    4. On the main tab, make sure "Tabs in the title bar" are not checked, and that the 'Mobile back-forward button' and 'hide urlbars stop & reload buttons' is checked. Close the options window when finished.
    5. Right-click on a zone empty of the tab bar and select Customize.
    6. If the title bar is not currently displayed, click the button for the title at the bottom bar left to allow.
    7. Click Show / hide toolbars button and make sure that "Menu bar" is checked.
    8. Make slide downloads, the Back/Forward buttons Stop and reload on the menu bar.
    9. Drag the address bar on the navigation toolbar and menu bar.
    10. Drag all the undesirable elements like the search bar off the bar of navigation and on the range of customization tools.
    11. Click the Customize the output at the bottom right button when finished.
    12. Open the modules (Ctrl + Shift + A Manager; Mac: Command + shift + A), then the Extensions category.
    13. Beside the classical restaurant theme, click on the Options button.
    14. On the main tab, check "hide navigation bar.

Note: Classic buttons restaurateur theme may stay dark when it is placed on the menu bar. If Yes, which is a problem, you will need to discuss with the author of the add-on.

If there are problems with importing IE bookmarks in Firefox, then export favorites in Internet Explorer to a HTML file and import this file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.

If you don't have the menu bar in Internet Explorer, and then right-click on the toolbar above to activate the menu bar.

    • Export Favorites in Internet Explorer to a file (bookmarks.html) HTML:
      File > import and export
    • Import HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > import bookmarks HTML

See "Import from another browser" and "import from file":

When Firefox is set to zero, then a new profile is created and some of your data (Favorites, history, cookies, passwords, data form) is imported automatically your current profile will be moved on the desktop (old data of Firefox).

You will lose the extensions and other customizations (toolbars, Pref.) that you have made.

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be careful to avoid transporting on the problem.
