How long the mid 2007 iMac, running El Capitan 10.11.6 rely on Apple?

Hi all

I was dreading the day where it would happen, but with the release of the Sierra of the OS, I see that my iMac mid 2007 is no longer able to update for Sierra. I am El Capitan 10.11.6 running without any problems and always up-to-date security, etc. I would like to know how long my iMac will be supported by Apple and for how long it will be safe to use.

Thank you!

It is usually 7-8 years for the material, if you are already past. I don't know what's calendar from Apple for the OS, but you're on the latest version of El Capitan and I guess they will award updates security for a little; However, since Sierra was published, the focus has shifted to who and I expect updates to security for a past OS for over a year about.

  • El Capitan: Compatibility with the mid 2007 iMac

Apple support tell me my mid 2007 iMac Intel is compatible with El Capitan. My iMac only has 2 GB of RAM (spec that had been originally shipped) and is running Snow Leopard, which requires only 1 GB or RAM to run. Specification technical El Capitan indicate that 2 GB of RAM to run.

I'm afraid that if I install El Capitan, my iMac mudra to stop.

I was wondering if anyone of you has experience with the installation of OSX El Capitan on a mid-2007, Intel iMac?

    Thank you very much!

Based on the specifications provided, I guess it's your Mac:

    http://www.EveryMac.com/systems/Apple/iMac/specs/iMac-Core-2-extreme-2.8-24-inch - aluminium - specs.html

2 GB of RAM is the absolute minimum necessary for the performance of El Capitan (However, most of the people here will tell you that 4 GB should be realistic, low).  According to what you do with your Mac, it will not necessarily work well.  From the link above, you will notice that your Mac can take up to 6 GB of RAM.  If you want to update, I would like to, highly recommend, that you get more memory.

  • Mid 2007 iMac - problem with install Clean El Capitan

I have a (very) old mid 2007 iMac that I tried to do a clean install of El Capitan to a USB flash drive.

I used the following instructions to create a bootable USB El Capitan:

    http://Mashable.com/2015/10/01/clean-install-OS-x-El-Capitan/#5K.kLrHcpEq3

The USB boot media creation went through without any problems. However, when I try to start the iMac from the drive flash, iMac stays on the screen of the Apple logo for a few minutes and then restarts.

The iMac was initially Mavericks recovery utility is restarted after I erased the hard drive. To avoid any possible problems with the installer of El Capitan, I used an older DVD of Snow Leopard to remove the Mavericks recovery from disk. The drive is now without an operating system or recovery utilities.

I suspect a problem with the hardware with the hard drive or flash drive that I use. The hard drive has been erased with a single pass of zeros using disk utility. The flash drive, I regularly use as disk bootable for PC.

My only other option at this point is to install Snow Leopard, install upgrade to El Capitan, and then use the recovery of El Capitan to do a cleaning.

I was wondering if anyone else encountered this problem and has a solution.

    Thank you.

    Just to update.

I decided to take the long road with this to install El Capitan on this iMac.

Here are the steps I took to install OS x:

    • Wipe all existing partitions on the hard disk, including my former Mavericks recovery partition.
    • Installed Snow Leopard from the installation DVD. Updated Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    • A ran Installer El Capitan
    • Started in the El Capitan recovery utility. I have reset (formatted) the reader.
    • Re-installed El Capitan.

I could not only solve problems with my key USB install media. It wasn't a complete disaster since I already had existing media that I could use for my iMac back on its feet. My mistake was wipe my existing facility for the Mavericks before check my USB as bootable. Installation took much longer than I anticipated for this reason.

So, in conclusion, do a clean install on this model iMac is possible, but I highly recommend checking any bootable media before you delete your existing installation of Mac OS. The best route (and easier) is upgrading the OS.

  • How long the CDN will be online?

In view of the cancellation of the AE, I was wondering how long the CDN from Adobe will be available for current (and perhaps future) looks. I have a lot of creations running that use the library of animation on Adobe CDN (because of the restrictions of size of file on the side editors) and I really would hate to see them ALL turn into static filled with errors.

I'm sorry that if this has been asked before, I found nothing on this subject in the AE community.

Of what I got to understand, this decision is still to be taken. However, the link should be safe for a year or two at least.

Based on the few times wherever I slept too long by ten to thirty minutes, I think it rings less than thirty minutes and more than five minutes.

Forget the RAM Kingston and return it for a full refund, if you can.

Spec'd correct., tested and reliable Mac RAM DO can be bought online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory, directly from the site Crucial (crucial.com) or OWC (macsales.com).

Already mentioned several times in this post of the thread.

Any other RAM from other sources and manufacturers (except OWC or Crucial) is questionable, at best.

    Good luck!

It is not possible to update the version of Aperture is 3.4.5

    What can I do?

You can only update if you have a version of the AppStore of Aperture - if your version of Aperture appears in the history of your purchases on the App Store. Update and then reinstalling.   See this tip of the user for more details:

  • How to put on a new iMac running El Capitan iPhoto?

I have an iMac 2007 end running Yosemite 10.10.5 with only 4 GB of memory.  It has iPhoto 9.6.1 I downloaded on the App store in late 2014.  I use it extensively for thousands of photos.  I intend to move to a new iMac, or possibly one of the Apple laptops in a month.  There El Capitan.

Reading these forums, I understand that el Capitan will run iPhoto if it is of a certain version which, I believe, iPhoto 9.6.1 qualifies.  I would also say that the App store in my list of "Bought" an iPhoto to buy in late 2014, this which I think is the version that I use now. I have also some Time Machine backups.

My question is what would the process of loading the application on the new iMac iPhoto?  After you have configured the new iMac I would go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application); or maybe transfer from a Time Machine backup sort.  Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.  Also after loading iPhoto on the new iMac how I would get my number (four) iPhoto libraries on the new iMac?

I realize has 'Photos' will in the future with Apple and that I might convert some time, but at that time iPhoto are perfect for me and am not ready to change right now.

    Thanks for any help

    1. here's how:

After you have configured the new iMac would be go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application)

It says 'Open' now that it's on your machine. On the new, he'll say 'download '.

    2. This is not a problem in any form:

Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.

Photos does nothing for an iPhoto library at all. It creates a new version that works for himself, but leaves the completely intact iPhoto library. You just have to worry about this.

Be absolutely certain that you will have to switch to a new application. Sooner or later, a version of the operating system will come along who are not running iPhoto. Unfortunately, the app is a dead-end.

Use an external hard drive, a network or disk mode target for drag - copy the items that you want to move on. Software that came with an installer or package must be reinstalled instead.

  • Mid 2007 iMac

Hello! I have an iMac mid 2007, and, of course, it only is not supported (officially) for macOS Sierra. I read that an upgrade of the CPU can support, but no one knows if this is true? Thank you!!

    3MJB

    No, this is not correct.

There is no official updates. Even if you have replaced the entire mother (at great expense), the installer would probably not recognize and not to install Sierra, anyway.

If you have a spare monitor, you might want to consider buying a Mac mini from recent.
