How to make a pdf searchable, but not editable

Have a few pdf that I need to put online for others to use, but the info should stay exactly as it is, what can I do to secure this information, while allowing others to research? Thank you

If you sign the document in electronic form, you can be sure of document has not been changed. You can sign with a certificate to be sure. However, nothing stops never someone to take a document, that you post and re-create, if it can be opened, it can be re-created. If it is signed with your certificate, you can only be sure that the copy will not be signed with your certificate.

Another story is now available. A signed document can be searched when opened. Do you want the document to be searchable from Google and other search engines? It's a different kettle of fish, because the more secure signed documents are encrypted. However, Acrobat DC allows (for example)

(1) encrypt all the contents of the document or

(2) encrypt all the contents except metadata document (Acrobat 6 and later compatible)

(3) only encrypt attachments (Acrobat 7 and later compatible)

So choose (3) can do what you want.
