How to recover programs from windows.old after reinstalling windows vista edition Home premium

I had to reinstall windows - all of my previous programs seem to be in a folder called windows.old, but they won't work here.  How to restore these?  In particular, I would like to recover my old Windows Mail settings and files and also norton antivirus.

Here is the procedure to retrieve the data from Windows.old: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932912/.  You can't recover programs from windows.old - which is not possible.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

You're confused system recovery and system restore.

System Restore makes the settings from your computer to an earlier date; It will not reinstall the operating system.

System recovery reinstalls the operating system how much you bought your machine; as for the new State.

Contact the person who sold it to your and get a replacement or Exchange CD-ROM.

There is no place on the way to upgrade 32-bit versions of Windows to Windows 7 64 bit. You will need to do a custom installation.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the necessary

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • Folder of documents completely empty after emptying the Recycle Bin. Running Windows Vista Edition Home Premium.

I uploaded several photos from a third party site yesterday. In this process, I make several files which I then recycle once the download is complete. Because I'm uploading about 6 months worth of photos, I decided it would be best to empty the trash when I finished and did. Today, I went to access a Word document, and ALL my files are missing from the Documents folder - it is completely empty. When I try to look for one of the files that I know was in the file, I get a message that says "the point _ that this shortcut refers has been changed or moved, and this shortcut no longer works correctly. You really want to remove this shortcut? "In the research forums, I've seen where this can happen after a trojan/virus. I met said before virus on my laptop, so I know what it looks like at and. I have experienced this on my desk that I currently have the problem with. I ran a full scan, just to be on the right side and found nothing. Any suggestions?

He should not have deleted the documents folder.  System restore must have worked.

Protection system had to be turned on in order to 'restore' .  Directions to do are in the link I listed above about the subject.

Have you tried to uninstall the software with that allows you to export documents?  See if the documents are restored on uninstall.

In the settings of your third-party software that you see a setting that says keep copy file on the drive even after deleting? If so, you have a copy of the file on the raw disk. See this

  • CREATIX card TV no longer works for Windows Media Center after you install Vista Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional

I recently updated my computer Windows Vista Edition Medion Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. While my computer was running Vista, I could use the tuner TV SAA7131 Creatix card in my computer to watch digital TV British, that is to say Freeview. Before my upgrade to Windows 7, I checked all my drivers would be compatible, and the Advisory program told me that they would be sufficient. However, when I tried to setup of the library to receive a TV signal, the implementation will not progress beyond the screen "Considering television signals" Percentage of completion bar gets to about 90% and then does not move, or entirely 100%, but the screen does not change, and if I try to return to the main menu screen, Windows Media Center crashes with the 'circle of rotation of loading"and does not change.

I reinstalled Cyberlink Home Cinema after realization of the Medion TV improve extra that comes with it, but that didn't seem to help. The same problem persists.

I have still the disk with the drivers on, but I'm not sure how to reinstall the drivers using the disk, because the record for drivers TV Tuner does she not an executable file, just a series of system files, application extensions and the DAT files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must find the CTX driver version in the code of your tv card provider (poster Device Manager it under hardware ID in the Details tab) in the list of suppliers PDF in the FAQ section of the site Creatix. Then, you can download the right CTX driver from the support section. Is there a Windows 7 driver for my SAA7131 card.

  • Windows Vista Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional

Like other people who are trying to move from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional, told me the softward an upgrade is not possible. Rather than having to reinstall everything, I wonder whether it would be possible to do a full backup using Vista backup on an external hard drive, and then perform a new installation of Windows 7 Professional, and then recover all applications and settings of the backup after Windows 7 is installed? Which would make life much simpler.

    Thank you!

Of course, you can back up all your personal files and settings, but you will have to reinstall all your programs and drivers.

  • Can I temporarily install an OEM version of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium on a virtual PC?

original title: can I TEMPORARILY install a copy of OEM Vista home on Virtual PC

I want to do a test run of my upgrade scheduled by using Virtual PC to make sure that I select the correct options which will not FUBAR my current system.

To this end, can I take the drive provided by gateway labeled "Disk Operating System" and install on virtual pc by using the product key from the back of my PC, while at the same time that the current key is used to run the host operating system.

I don't care about activation within 30 days, nor I care incidentally WGA (unless to do an upgrade installation), or even legality because of some stupid too restrictive EULA, I just keep can I do to make it work, then try to upgrade to 7 business to a second drive.

When the tests are done, I'll delete the virtual machine and try it on the "live" system The problem is that I need to use the system with the keys that I use for these tests to do as I have nothing else not powerful enough to run Virtual PC for Vista/7.

I'd rather FUBARing a virtual computer to the computer that I use to post on this forum. I don't want to take the risk of disabling the key on my current system because he thinks that I moved the key to a new.

in fact, you were right for the wrong reason. It did not work with Virtual PC, but not for the reason you think. Setup requires a 64-bit computer.

Makes me wonder, which actually means "virtual PC 64"? I thought I had the 64-bit version of VirtualPC.

On the other hand, VMware Player had no problem with the installation. I put the virtual machine have no network card or any medium of communication. Also found it was a good thing that I was intending to double, as I can't upgrade with what I have. Or maybe it's because I have a not activate the installation I did.

What I was trying to do, is check what to do a dual boot works the same way with Vista/7 as it does with previous versions of windows. I was thrown off the coast by warnings from installation CD on "this option does NOT keep your files. Audit confirmed through VMware Player.

I install on a second disc with a backup of some files on what I decided to save the 80 GB for Linux drive.
