  1. open the Start menu

  2. Select Control Panel

  3. click on the link Visual display optimize the easy access under the heading

  4. go to the section do the things on the screen easier to see

  5. do you have a tick in Delete (if available) background images?

  6. click on OK

  Well well well, you will look like this?  When you mentioned "libraries", I remembered that a few weeks ago I was cleaning the menus and screens under WMP and apparently I went in organizing-> customize the navigation pane and unchecked near pretty everything in there.  I just went and restored these options by default and viola ~ music and images options are coming back as if by magic.  Do not understand the logic behind this, but the problem is now resolved.  Thank you.
