Hello

You can restore files from a BKF file on an external hard drive on the computer by using the Windows XP Backup Wizard. The Backup Wizard is installed by default in Windows XP Professional, but not in XP Home. XP Home users can install it from an installation of Windows XP Edition family CD.

Follow the steps mentioned below and check if the problem persists.

a. install the backup on Windows XP Edition family Wizard, if it is not installed. Record of the family place of the Windows XP Setup CD in the hard disk of the computer and install the wizard by clicking "Start", click "My computer," double-click the CD icon in the window my computer, double-click the "ValueAdd", by double-clicking on the folder "Msft", by double-clicking "Ntbackup" and clicking on "NTBackup.msi."

b. connect the external hard drive to the computer.

c. open the Backup Wizard by clicking on "Start", "All programs", "Accessories," "System Tools" and "Backup".

d. click "Next" in the Welcome window.

e. click "Restore files and settings", then click "next".

f. click "Browse" in the window "to restore", click "Browse" in the "Open file Backup" window, click on 'My Computer', double-click the hard drive and double-click the BKF file.

g. click the boxes left the files desired under "What to restore," then click "next".

h. start the transfer by clicking on "Finish".

i. click 'Close' when prompted.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

You can restore backed up files lost, damaged, or accidentally modified versions. You also to restore files individual, groups of files, or all files that you have saved.

If you are restoring files from a backup that was made on another computer, the files are restored in a folder under the user name that was used to create the backup. If the user names are different, you must navigate to the folder where the files are restored.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

  • Restore the backup to an external hard drive

original title: if I reinstall my Vista, how to make the backup on an external hard drive? Is it a procedure drag-and - déposer? I use a Seagate external hard drive and there is no help section.

Have run the back up to the external hard drive, I would like to know how to use it when I reinstall Vista Home Premium system.

Also, I tried to check the hard disk for errors, and he has not finished the event.

Assuming that you used the backup of Vista and made program a full backup and not an image backup (although some of these procedures include the restoration of a full image backup), here is some information to help you restore data.  Try to read or at least most of the analytical documents before you start, so you get a good understanding of the process and the procedures involved.  Restoring from an external hard drive is a little different from restoring a secondary internal hard drive, CD/DVD or Flash drive or on the network (although quite close to the procedure of network). If you have used the Vista backup program, you can not restore using drag-and-drop - you must use Vista restore program.

Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right.  It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.

This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course.  But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.  It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.

Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

    1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."

    2. I chose "Advanced Restore"

    3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.

4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.

    5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »

    6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue

    7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.

    8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."

    9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup (Yes... even if he said that thebackup location is not available " ")

    10. and you press "next".

    11 guess what... no error!

    12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.

    13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.

    14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)

I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works and even when it does not).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

How to transfer data from laptop to external hard drive?

    my model is vgn-cr323.

    Thanks in advance

Let me provide you with General information on how you can transfer data from your computer to an external drive.

To transfer the data, plug the USB cable into the correct port. Usually, your computer will know that he has a new disc attached and a pop box up will warn you. It will scan to determine what to do with the new connection and your computer will assign a drive letter (for example, drive G: and so on.) This will allow you to transfer data to the external hard drive just like you would move files on your internal hard drive.

Once you have the USB cable plugged into your computers port (and the other end plugs into the external drive) you can now start to save files you want on the external hard drive.

Open the item (s) or folder (s) you want to transfer or save on your external hard drive. There are two ways to save external hard disk 1). If you have only one or two things to save, you can open each item, click on file / record under... and choose the letter/drive (for example, drive G corresponding to that of your external hard drive, click Save.) This he recorded on the external hard drive.

  • In iMovie 9.0.4 How can I move events to an external hard drive?

Note: I am writing this issue on behalf of my daughter, who is an old iMac running 10.6.8.   His version of iMovie is 9.0.4.

She has about 50 GB, events which occupies about one-third of its HD.  There is an external hard drive with lots of available storage.

How to pass these events to the external hard drive?

    Thank you

    Owen

For a long time I used iMovie 9 but this link to the help info gives instructions: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c

Its probably safer to copy rather than move events (unless you already have a backup) just in case something goes wrong.

  • reloading the files of the external hard drive to the new computer laptop

I'm trying to reloaded files etc. from an external hard drive to my laptop. I took the files of my old office that was on is way out, so just in case I lost them all I copied them. I tried setting up my external hard drive and transfer just a couple of files just to see if it would work. I sent them to my desktop from my laptop and they also went to my documents, but once the hard drive is disconnected files will not open. I do not know what I'm dong wrong as I am not very computor spirit, so that the answers would be useful in silly English thank you. Sorry to be so long-winded.

    Hello @shedeval

I understand that you have copied your files on an external drive from your old computer.

You tried to copy the files to the new computer, but when you disconnect the external hard drive the files are no longer accessible.

I think that you have created or copied a shortcut to the new computer and not the actual files.  When you're logged out outside the new computer had more disk access to open files.

I would like to redo the copy and when you finished externally, log out and then try again.

    Good luck!

  • Backup and restore does not recognize my external HARD drive.

When I try to use the ms backup and restore it only recogniza my external HARD drive.

Is that possible reinstall or repair?

    Hello daniloalvesmaciel,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

First of all, I could check and see if the hard drive is listed on the Windows 7 Compatibility Center. Clickhere for a link to the Compatibility Center. If it's on the Compatibility Center, then check out the web site of the manufacturer for updates or drivers.

Then check if you see the external hard drive in the Device Manager.
    To check these options:

    1. click on the Start button to display the Start Menu , then selectControl Panel .
    2. the Control Panel window opens.
Now click system and security from this window.
    3 Scrollfor Device Manager.
    4. click on the Device Manager.
    5. to view material click on any category and the associated list of installed hardware. For example. Click on hard drives.
Right click on the external hard drive. You can see the different options likeUpdate driver software, disable, uninstall and properties etc.
    6. click on Properties to display the details of the hardware. Click theDriver tab , to view the details of device driver.
    7. then on the software update driver to check and see if you have the latest drivers.

Then check again and see if you can save on the external hard drive.

If this is not the case, try to map a drive to the external drive. Can you back up now.

Please respond and take stock of your problem.

  • How to convert wma to mp3 on external hard drive file

I have a new version of osxe1 mac 10.11.2 capitan how to convert wma files into mp3 files that are on my external hard drive so my mac can copy on my iTunes

http://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/ - free.  Says it does WMA. I have not used it so try at your own risk...

Switch (free basic version) - http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html - I don't know if this will make WMA

    All2Mp3 - http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html - limited success with WMA

Flip4mac - need version payware intermediary that allows you to convert.  Use with Quicktime player.  Flip4Mac - http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4mac wmv - the free version will allow QuickTime play, but not to convert Windows Media files.

After installation, a new component of Flip4Mac will appear in system preferences.  Make sure that you set the boxes to make sure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime format.

VLC - not really a converter but will do a bit on the menu export.  Can be slow to be converted and there will be a learning curve.

Explore online converters when you download a file in a format and download in another.

I do not know if your computer can run Audion 3 I think I used to use it to convert WMA.

    Three points:

    1. software (Real Player or any other) should generally not be on
external hard drives. It can cause problems. So you shouldn't do it.

2 move a program from one drive to another (external or not) is
difficult. This is because besides that the software itself, there is
usually many references to it and its location in | Windows, in the
Registry and elsewhere. Search and replace all of these references is
very hard. There is a software that is supposed to do, but in my
experience, none of this works perfectly. I recommend strongly against
    it.

    3. move media files is easy. You can move the files to a disk
to another exactly like you would move them from one folder to another.
There are several ways, but cut-and - paste and drag - move are the
may be simpler and more common. If you do not know how
    write again for more information.

  • How do I move files HD internal to external hard drive

My internal HD has about 21 remaining G that prevents me from creating a slide show with music.  I anticipate the purchase of an external hard drive to free up space on my internal HD, which automatically backs up everything.  I would also like to delete some of the files are no longer needed.  I think that some of my iTune files have been left out due to lack of space.  It seems that every time that I have access to my iTunes library that it backs up the session, and that means there are layers of libraries being backed up.  I don't want to remove the original library and I noticed that there are layers of folders previous library, previous library eating.  I do not know the importance of these and do not want to recover as much of my iTunes library I can.

Just drag and drop. Nothing more complex than that, of course, you will have to format the external hard drive first using disk utility. The Mac OS extended (journaled) format and then drag and drop.
