  I think that the HDMI on your Air port was released only to screen external which is why you need the converter.

  @jazzminford, I see that you are having a problem, try to use the webcam in SKYPE. This seems to be a problem with the webcam software. I would suggest following this document

  Then go down to the section "video does not appear in your webcam software (for example, YouCam, Skype, Messenger, etc..). These sections will show you how to update the drivers through the Device Manager and also test the webcam on Skype.

  Now, if this step doesn't seem to not solve the problem. I need you to go to the section that says "reinstall the original webcam program that came with your computer. This section will guide you in the recovery of the program and drivers.
