  The monitor is a HP backlit. I can use the buttons on the monitor to display its menu at the bottom of my screen, but have not found a way to combat it. The cursor will not appear on the top of the menu display. I may need to use a combination of keys, but just don't know.

  There should be a button on your monitor, you can push to adjust the brightness, contrast, height, width, and other things too.  Since it is different from one monitor to the other, you will have to consider to make it in the documentation on the monitor, the monitor, or on the web site of the manufacturer of the monitor.

  You can download a free start ordinarysoft.com button and you can install it on your PC. You will have a similar to Windows 7 start button, or you can have a windows start button 8 modern research. Escape metro on start up screen and will be directly log on your desktop. When you click the Start button, you'll find all applications here as you find in other editions of windows.

  Apparently, you have set Firefox to auto update. He has probably updated to the new version, Firefox 4.0.

  To check if this is true, go to your bar menu at the top of the screen. If you don't see the menu bar, you can activate it by right clicking on an empty area in the upper part. Of this, you should see the menu bar, toolbar Tools Navigation, Bookmarks Toolbar, toolbar add-on, etc.. Click on those you want to activate.
