  As John says, when you go to activate it on the new computer, if you don't have the old version installed, will give you the opportunity to identify the old version and provide its serial number as proof that you are eligible using the improved version.

  My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

  For reasons I don't know, it's now displaying C thru I and K by K S. is same size/useage as C, L is the same as d... etc.

  How in the world can get rid of these indicators duplicate without losing actual partitions? I tried to restore to 7 days, without success.

  I tried to use disk management. All that was remove my link to the 2nd disk designated as J that contains a different operating system.
