  I had to completely remove firefox from my pc because it has been infected by malware. I downloaded and installed the latest version. I imported my bookmark until I did, so they appear as imported bookmarks. I have 10 years of bookmarks.   I have been unable to add new bookmarks for awhile now,-either by click on the Star then the bookmarks icon in the toolbar (blue, flying star in the toolbar animation is happening, but the star remains empty) or in the menu on the right by clicking on a tab.   Most likely, this is caused by the IE Tab + extension. Try disabling or deleting on the page modules. Either:

  • CTRL + SHIFT + a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

  In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find IE Tab + on the right side.

  Often, a link will appear above a disabled/removed extension to restart Firefox for the changes to take effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

  Are you talking about the bookmarks toolbar? The one along the top of the screen? The checkmark comes bock when you restart Firefox?

  Whatever it is, you should take a look at article in the Knowledge Base How to repair preferences that will not save . It may be that Firefox has struggle to write in the pref.js file.

  If this does not work, you can also try to create a new profile.

  You can check for problems with the database places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

  You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)
  • Create the folder chrome (lowercase) in the .default < xxxxxxxx > profile folder if the folder does not exist.
  • Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a userChrome.css (new) file in this folder (the names are case-sensitive).
  • Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the Editor window and make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line.
  • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "text files" when you save the file via "save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.

  Otherwise, Windows can add a hidden .txt file extension, and you end up with a file not work userChrome.css.txt or userContent.css.txt.

  You should look at article in the Knowledge Base of Bookmarks Toolbar - view your Web Favorites at the top of the Firefox window . It will show you how to create and manage bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar.
