  I tried to boot from an external device in settings PC - general settings in the charming bar, but it starts off directly with Windows 8 too.  the DVD plays fine films, and if I plug the boot device dvd W8 sees them and their content because I expect too much.

  Any ideas on how to boot from another device.  I would like to take at least a decent backup using Acronis.

  64-bit Windows 8 cannot run 16-bit programs. the only way to do
  you want is to install a virtual machine and run it.

  If possible, the best solution would be to get a newer 32 - bit or
  64-bit version of the program.
