  Picked up a used Dell and fortunately it has a partition to the factory with SP2 in place.   Thank you XP rocks... which probably would have worked too. What I ended up doing was chatting online with Microsoft and they walked me some tests Serivces looking on the computer. A few things here have been set to manual, not on automatic (how, why were they on the manual, I don't know). in any case, after the definition of those and have to restart the computer, I lost the tech. However, she sent a link to me who had SP3 top. After that I loaded SP3 and then checked for updates. 123 installed, so now I'm updating.

  This error can occur if there are problems of system files on the drive selected for the backup file location. Have you tried to save the backup to a drive or another location? Please try the following to fix the disc
  [1] method: Using Check Disk to find the files corrupt
  • In the start menu, look for invites
  • Right click on command prompt and select run as administrator
  • When the application starts, insert the following text and press ENTER: Chkdsk.exe/f/x k:
    Where we mean K:  the disc damaged.

  NOTICE: Check disk is maybe not able to lock the drive and launch the operation if the disk contains files required for Windows to run correctly. It asks if you want to schedule a check disk at the next startup upwards instead.

  Yes, as long as Vista is still installed on the hard drive you can use a copy of Windows 7 upgrade to upgrade your computer but you will need to boot the computer with the Windows 7 dvd and perform a custom installation.  Which will remove all your programs and data so there will be very practical backups.

  The best option is to repair Vista first.

  Before dismiss you the idea of buying a copy of the full license of Windows 7, remember that it would be transferable to a new computer much more easily that an upgrade copy is.

I can't do a backup as previously by selecting "let Windows choose ' when I don't try this backup method I get error code 0 x 81000031" windows Backup does not have while determining the location of the libraries of one of the users included in the backup: retail; the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. "

  I always save to a hard drive Portable Samsung.

  I'm not an advanced user and would appreciate any suggestions as to how to solve this problem. I have a system repair disc and the System Image I did before moving to Windows 10 if it helps.

  I have now solved the problem for my computer as below:

  1. click on start, then click computer

  2. right click on any of the 4 libraries IE Documents, music. pictures, videos and go down to properties

  3. click on properties and you will probably see that each library has 2 places... they looked reasonable for me

  4. at the bottom of the Panel, click RESTORE defaults, and then click APPLY and then click OK

  5. repeat the same process for each of the libraries

  6. I then ran Microsoft Fixit tool for backup

  7.I replaced then backup setting by "let Windows choose ' and ran the backup.

  Backup worked correctly, as she had always done before.

  I want to emphasize that I am not an advanced user

  Hope it could be useful that I can not imagine that restoring the default settings could do no harm.

  If you see STRANGE places in each library library it would I think be wise to investigate further before restoring the default settings

  Congratulations on your new iMac! I understand from your message that you want to create a backfile to your iPhone 5 c, but are afraid of losing the data on it. I know how it is important for you to keep your data on your iPhone 5 c and to create a backup file for it.
