I'm on 10.8.5 Mac laptop and in order to keep Quicken 2007, I need 10.9.

Quicken has informed me that I have use Quicken 2007-16.2.3 and they are upgrading.  I need Maverick 9.0 or higher to keep.  If I leave Mt. Lion 10.8.5 Maverick 9.0 or higher, I "lose" anything, i.e. apps, etc. Just what does not work?  I saved on Time Machine.

Or is there another financial program like Quicken I could use.  Not interested in TurboTax.

Thanks for any help.

If you upgrade OS X via the app store, you will jump directly to El Capitan 10.11.1 unless you have downloaded an older version without install it for some reason any.

Some 10.8.5 apps will not work with 10.11.1 without updates.  Like iPhoto for example.  Since we do not know what applications you have, we cannot tell exactly what can be broken in the upgrade.  You must seek compatibility with 10.11.1 for each application that you care with a sentence of google as "iPhoto 9.6.1 compatibility with OS X 10.11 or mail apps that you're more concerned is there is not much here (for Apple applications) or on the website of the developer for applications not Apple.»
