First of all, you can not rely or guardianship what add / remove programs tells you about the dates, time, last used, etc..

For example, I use my MS Office every day, but the ARP says that it is rarely used and last used on 2010-10-10.

Such things would work correctly if the installation programs would put enough correct information in the registry during the installation of applications, but most are not.  Even applications like MS Office Microsoft isn't much good.  Do not pay attention to this information.

If you get an error message, you must validate exactly what the said error, think what ARP file is missing and tell us more about your system.

You will not run sfc/scannow successfully anyway unless you have a XP installation CD authentic which corresponds to your Service Pack installation (most people don't).  The technical support engineers always seem to leave out this little nugget of information.

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type sfc in the search box, right-click to SFC. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Vista Home Basic, 32-bit. Install software (games, etc.) does not not in Control Panel Add/Remove programs or CCleaner RevoUninstaller. They use all to. I don't know what has changed. Nothing new has been installed. How can I remove the software I want to uninstall? Thanks for your help.

    Hi il898,

This can also occur if the installation files are broken or missing for the program which may be reason for the program does not appear in uninstall a program from the list.

I suggest that you run the program to install the program again and check if you get an option to uninstall the program and try to uninstall the program.
If it still does not uninstall the program, and then try to reinstall the program and uninstall afterwards.

    I hope this helps!

I checked the previous messages and can't seem to find a solution to this problem.  Recently I ran 3 different scans, i.e. sbybot, avast and Malawarebytes virus. After that I ran these anti-virus programs and remove viruses, I was not able to open any more virus scanners. Every time I tried, would open a window saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file." If I try to download a new virus scanner, it says the same thing.

When I try to open the Control Panel, add or remove programs, a window appears saying "C:Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. I checked this file on my c: drive\system 32 and see the rundll.exe file. I also copy and pasted the file rundll.exe my CD of Windows XP in c: Windows\System32

  • How can I remove a duplicate 'Add or remove programs"icon in the control panel?

Whenever I open the Control Panel on my computer, I see two icons "Add or Remove Programs". How can I fix this problem?

Some of what you see in the Panel comes from Control Panel Extension files found in the folder c:\windows\system32 (assuming that XP is installed on your C drive).  If you look at our you will find some there. CPL files and those who do a lot of what you see in the Panel.

The applet Add / Remove programs you see displayed in the Panel appears because there is a file there called:

    appwiz.cpl

If you go to c:\windows\system32 and copy the appwiz.cpl file and call the copy something like jose.cpl then go to control panel, you will see so two addition / deletion of programs listed (and they both work).  Non believers, try it.

If you see two copies of add or remove programs in Control Panel, both work?

I don't know what your problem is exactly or how it got that way, but if you use the Windows Explorer and browse to c:\windows\system32 folder, and then click search for .cpl, you will get a list of all the .cpl in this folder files (and maybe also see copies of backup in the dllcache folder).

Click the size column heading to sort the. CPL files by size, then look for appwiz.cpl in the list and then look for another. CPL file above or below that has the same size and date than the appwiz.cpl file and see what the name of this file is (as jose.cpl).  If there is another file that is the same size and date than the appwiz.cpl, that's your problem.

If you find it will not know what it is, you can just rename the suspicious file to something ending with an extension .cpl (like jose.xxx) and see what things look like.  If things get worse, just rename the file, the original name and seek some other idea-ers.

If you find the file that resembles appwiz.cpl and don't know what it is, tell us what you see and that someone can help you to understand.

old question question/new - matter always request how to fix or recover from the windows/system32/rnudll.exe in computer science. I see no other answer to this anywhere

    Hi DadVQ,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

This problem occurs because of a missing or corrupted Rundll32.exe file. This problem can also be caused by a virus.

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: Follow the steps mentioned in the article below and check if the problem still persists.

Cannot find the Rundll32.exe file when you open Control Panel

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/812340

Method 2: If the problem persists, I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While hard disk analysis if bad sectors are found when scanning try to repair this area, all available on which data can be lost.

Let us know if that helps.
