  Thanks to all of you who tried to help him.   Sorry for the false assumption on your language of choice. The two functions are DAQmxGetSysDevNames and DAQmxGetDevIsSimulated.  DAQmxGetSysDevNames returns an array of the fo devices in your system.  I ran in a loop For and reinforced with each device.  If I call the DAQmxGetDevIsSimulated on a device that does not exist, an error will be thrown. If it is simulated a true will be returned as well.  My code is that waiting for the first device which is not simulated and is present in the system.
