  We were all new at one point, so don't worry what you know.  Win 8 is compatible with all previous OS.  It supports C++, and depends on your video card supports DIrectX 9, 10 and 11.

  The only thing that doesn't come with win 8 (and since you bought it, it may already be installed) is windows media player.

  There are two ways to address still Image duration. One is global and applied prior to importation. We could determine the desired approximate time, come on in Edition > Preferences > General > always in time. Then, all imported pictures have that duration (as well as titles and new features, such as video of Black).

  Once this general term has been defined, we can again and on an Image by Image basis, click on + drag on the rest of the Image, tail or head, to adjust the duration. By doing this, I would have the info panel open and visible, to see exactly how long I've changed.

  You can't drag an entire toolbar to the bottom of the window. The Bar of the Addon is a "toolbar", drag whatever you want from the Palette to customize or a toolbar up to the bar of the Addon.

  Your computer's wireless card connects to a wireless router and can go to the Internet or your local network via an Ethernet cable or wireless...

  The Ethernet connection works to connect to the back of your computer to the same wireless router where it plugs into an Ethernet connector.  From there, it can connect to the Internet or your local network, by cable or wireless.

  See control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Center sharing.  Go on "Change adapter settings" and go on ' change the advanced sharing settings.

  Make sure of course both ethernet and Wireless Adapters are enabled.  Make sure that network discovery is turned on.

  In my opinion, you are better off with Win 7 Pro.  It is an extremely stable OS.  However, your conclusions are correct.  There is no driver available for your video card with Win 7.  I would like to try 'Option 2' automatically find drivers for my nVidia products.  This is the correct driver if one is available.

  You should be able to use a power supply up to 400W with no problems.  Just ensure that the ATX power connector is correct (20/24 pin) to your motherboard.  A computer uses only the amount of energy needed to work properly.  The extra power is used during peak needs.

  I'll be honest.  Your computer is more than 11 years old.  In terms of technology, it is much older than the dinosaurs.  A new computer that's down the line would be light years faster.  Here are two computers who really Win 7 64 bit.  I am not an employee of HP, but use HP computers since 2001.  They were always very reliable.

  You have access to all the software with the creative cloud (Hooray for subscription!), so do not leave entirely. I just would focus on web stuff now, since this is what interests you and go back to AE when you're ready to give it some time. It will take a few months to really come to grips with it.
