  I have been using iCloud photo library for a long time now to synchronize photos between devices, and.

  I'm running out of space in the drive of my Mac, and I wanted to move the library to the SD card, so I followed the steps to copy the folder and then selecting the alt-click on the Photos icon library.

  Photos will download the library once again, because it cannot be sure that the library has moved is completely identical.  It is downloaded again and check for duplicates. Once the download is complete, you use more storage than before iCloud, but it will take a lot of time.

  But it shouldn't be necessary to upgrade the storage plan. You should be able to demote him again as soon as the download is complete.

  What I do, when I want to move the library to a new location is to create a new empty library on the new drive and then turn on the library empty as the iCloud photo library.   iCloud is a synchronization service, not a backup/storage service. If you want a backup, copy the file to an external drive.

  To downgrade your iCloud-storage plan, then you will need to follow the steps outlined below.

  Downgrade of your iCloud-storage plan

  You can decrease the amount of storage by selecting a new plan directly from your iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac or PC (for example, a plan of 50 GB to replace a 200 GB plan). The downgrade will take effect after the end of your monthly or annual subscription in progress.

  If you pass your storage plan and your content exceeds the storage you have available, new photos and videos download on iCloud photo library and devices will stop backup to iCloud. iCloud Drive and applications compatible iCloud does not refresh on your devices, and you will not be able to send or receive messages with your iCloud email address.

  To use iCloud after excess of your available storage space, delete backups, pictures, documents or e-mail messages, that you don't need. You can access photos, videos, and documents for 30 days after you remove or disable iCloud photo library and iCloud drive.

  iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. If you use the iOS 8 or later, go to settings > iCloud > storage. If you are using an older version of iOS, go to settings > iCloud > storage & Backup.
  2. Click Change storage Plan.
  3. Press Downgrade Options and enter your Apple ID.
  4. Choose a different plan to use when the expiration of your current storage plan.

  Unfortunately this is not something that can be easily or accurately answered, as the number of documents, you can place in the 50 GB would be directly related to the file size of the combined documents.   Its like asking how many pounds you can put in a box of some dimensions? Well its going to depend on the size of the books.

  If you have documents, what size of file is about 5 MB (megabytes) you could probably get about 10 000 these documents in 50 GB. But if you have files of 10 MB (presentations, large spreadsheets etc...)  Then you would be able to adapt the 5 000 files instead.

  Keynote and PowerPoint presentations are usually larger than text documents.
