ID program in the icons

I just installed the latest Windows Update and now all my desktop icons show the program of 'openness' that they are. They all show the Adobe Air link in XlSX, JPG, PDF and DOC icons. I tried to change that with the the 'opens with' in the properties, but they change EVERYTHING to the new.

I already know which program opens what icon, I do not need to be reminded with an image that supports the icon of any sort that I don't see what it is.
How can I remove the program completely association?
All the icons to function properly.

Hi David!

Please restore default registry entries and program files shortcut lnk link (LNK) associations. How this is done is described here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

I hope this helps.

See you soon

  • Cannot open programs using the icons on the desktop

    Hello

I just noticed that I can not access the internet directly by clicking on the icon. a window opens asking for me to choose the program I want to use to open IE.  He would then run the program but nothing happens and it goes in circles asking to select a program to open, run, etc.

Soon I noticed that clicking on other applications would result in an error message saying "Application not found".  I can't remove programs from my control panel because it is inaccessible, I can't open Microsoft Office programs directly unless I go to my computer.  I can't do a system recovery or restoration; the same messages will pop up. So basically, I can't make any changes to my desktop or access directly programs.  Help, please.

    Thank you

  • Reposition the icon of Internet Explorer

In Windows 7, the IE icon is in the taskbar. In my other computer using Vista, this icon is on the desktop and pressing it evokes MSN.com, which is my home page. I would get this application to my office instead of starting from the taskbar. Hovering over the IE icon on the taskbar displays small representations of open pages, which can become confusing sometimes.

Is there a procedure to solve this problem? If I'm a working document and need to look for something that I lose what I'm working on back and forth from one page to another, from the icon in the taskbar displays only the pages that are already open. Thanks for your suggestions,

    dalem29,

To place the IE icon on the desktop, you can go to start-all programs, locate the icon of IE and right-click on the icon and choose send to desktop as shortcut. To delete the pages that open in Internet Explorer you can remove temporary files and history by following the steps in the link below.

In addition to commentary of Entegy I must add that when you install a program, you will find an option that if the program that you install will be available for the current user only or for all users. Select only the current user to stop this problem.

Icons on the desktop are normally shortcuts - pointers to programs or
data files, not programs or data files themselves (the small
arrow indicates this is a shortcut). Deleting a shortcut has not
effect on the file it points to-he will always be there.

Viruses such as the behavior of the Acrobat Reader software. I have a laptop running WIN 7 and kaspersky AV. yesterday when I started my laptop I see all the icons from the browser on my QuickStart bar have been changed to the adobe reader icon and also observe that many other programs on my desktop have changed to the adobe reader icon. If you click the icon it opens adobe reader. I deleted Adobe reader using Add or remove programs and the icons back to normal. Yet once, I downloaded and installed Adobe reader 11. the problem has resurfaced. then again, I've uninstalled adobe reader software and installed Adobe Reader version 10 with the same question back. I have now uninstalled Adobe Reader. Please advise on how to install a working copy Adobe reader which will not infect or impinge upon other programs in my laptop.

I opened my garageband, but I does not, because there was a question mark hollow garageband icon, then I restarted the computer, it normally restarted (whithout saying I restarted the computer because of a problem), and when it was made of built-in apps were question marks, were not in the program and "it is not found on the computer.

The? means that the location for the file specified in the Dock cannot be found.

You said "were not in the programs.

Did you mean that they are not located in the Applications folder? Windows has a record of programs, not OSX.

You said "when I tried to re - download from the internet, said yes and it did not work."?

    What happened when you tried?

The missing applications are in the purchase of the Mac App Store section?

  • How to restore the icon of Firefox missing in Win 7 C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox

New computer that is running Windows 7. Don't install FF no problem. But the icon then disappears in the Start Menu and the taskbar.

When I go to the location of the program C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox it is only the icon generic firefox.exe.

Program that seems to work very well, but it's embarrassing. Thanks for the help.

I guess you mean keep the Firefox shortcut on the taskbar and Start Menu, and it's just the icon that looks like a generic Windows icon. If so, clear the cache of your icon:

  • Programs for the shortcut icons on the desktop of the user different?

My adult son and I are two Admins on what is basically a computer. I try to keep a very clean desktop so that I can easily find any new DOCS or IE shortcuts.
We each have our own connections. He installed games with CD and when I connected and found new icons for its games on my desk, I deleted them. But then he told me that they had disappeared from HIS Office too, so we had to go out of the Recycle Bin.
What is the only way that Windows XP work? I had always thought that each user has been mainly in charge of their own office, so it makes no sense to me.

Everything you see on your screen is just a shortcut or icon of a folder on your system, and there is a folder on the desktop that applies to all users (everyone gets those) and another folder in the office that applies to all users for things that belong to them.

When certain things are installed, they ask if you want the new program will be available for all users or just the current user (logged).

If you install for all users, shortcuts and icons will settle in the all users desktop folder.

If you install for just you, shortcuts and icons will settle in your desktop folder.

What you see on your desktop, it's all desktop users folder and your desktop folder combined.

What your adult son sees on his desk, is the all users desktop folder and its combined desktop folder.

If you install and tell the facility to apply to all users, shortcuts and icons to put in the desktop folder for all users - everyone sees them.

If the installed program shortcuts and icons in the all users desktop folder (and each user sees) and if you remove if from your office, you are also removing the all users desktop folder, then they are removed for everyone.

What you see on your desktop being things just in a folder, you can navigate to your folder office and add/remove things from him, just like any other folder (and therefore cannot your adult son).

If you have access to all the users desktop folder and add/remove things that will affect all the folder on the desktop.

If your installed program does not require and has just put all the stuff in the all users desktop folder (so everyone sees them) and that you don't want to see such things, cut the shortcuts in the all users desktop folder and paste them into your grown son file and then only he will see them.

Don't forget - what you see on your screen are just shortcuts and icons in a folder (s) that you can manipulate using including cut, copy, and paste.
