  • Base filtering engine service, I learn by Norton that the windows base filtering engine service is not running on our laptop.

I was informed by Norton that the windows base filtering engine service is not running on our laptop.

And I need to notifify you.

The filter Base (BFE) engine is a service that manages firewall and Internet Protocol (IP, IPsec) security policies and implements user mode filtering. Stopping or disabling the BFE service will significantly reduce the security of the system. It will also result in unpredictable behavior in IPsec management and firewall applications.

Firewall Windows depends on BFE works correctly.

To find out if BFE is running on your system, click Start, and then type this command:

    cmd /k sc qc bfe

    Press {ENTER}

If you receive the following error:

    [SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

It is generally the work of one or more malicious software. See this address for the explanation and information on how to restore the missing service:

A missing Base filtering engine (and often other services including the Windows Firewall) are almost always the result of a severe malware infection after removing some registry keys.
Sirefef is a municipality convicted malware.  This type of damage can be very difficult to repair.  You must also ensure that no remaining infection.

See the link below.   This fix is well worth trying, but if your system has been damaged by malicious programs such as Sirefef there may be more issues involved.

  • No internet connection with base filtering engine service turned on

I have a DELL PC running Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit and McAfee (preload) antivirus and firewalls.  The system has recently lost access to the internet.  If I boot in safe mode with networking, I get internet access.  Normal startup come "connected, but no internet" and I can't even ping the router.

The PC is connected directly to the router using a network cable.

After a bit of investigation, my problem seems connected to the service of 'Base filtering engine.  If I run MSCONFIG to disable this service and reboot, I get a full internet access.  Although this seems to solve my problems, I'm not sure it's a wise thing to do that I think it is maybe important for safety reasons (?) and need advice.
Windows Firewall does not work as I am running McAfee firewall which reports 'and '.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Base filtering engine does not turn

Well first of all, today my computer was working fine. Then I turned off and turn it back on later and I tried to use the internet and it would not connect or Windows Firewall. Then, I started to look around for help & support, and I found that it is controlled by the Base filtering engine and I looked and he was off. So, I tried to start it and it wouldn't turn on I got a message that says "Windows has no start the engine service of filtering based on Local computer." Error 5: Access is denied. Now I use a friends computer to search for answers, but I can't find anywhere. The system restore points were not available either, so I couldn't restore it. Please help I've looked everywhere and no luck. I really don't want to recover my computer and lost all my files. Oh and btw I have a Windows Vista Home Premium am I'm on a local computer.

My problem is still there, but I guess I'm going to just send to HP and the fixed or recovered. I tried safe mode and that has not worked and I tried what he said about Microsoft Support, but no luck.

  • Can I disable the Terminal Services if I don't use remote assistance/remote desktop?

I use can I have Vista 32 bit home premium

I thought that Vista have no remote desktop? Is not Terminal identical remote desktop services?

    When I go

MyComputer > right click > properties > remote adjustment

the box for "Allow remote Assisnatnce" is NOT COCHEE

But when I run Netstat - ano, I see that port 3389 is listening svchost.exe process when I checal what services are related to this particular svchost.exe, I see the following services:

    Cryptographic services
    DNS client
    network location awareness
    KtmRm for distributed transaction coordination
    telephony

    and Terminal Server services

Seems to be at a point several years ago, I allowed someone from microsoft to help me through the assistance at a distance could therefore have enabled or downloaded services Terminal Server?

In any case, I think that Terminal Services is initially port 3389 to remain open and thus get an unsolicited connection attempts from different IP addresses.

I tried a little experiment and finished the Terminal Services and changed the status of manual start-up. When I still ran netstat - ano, he showed no listening on port 3389

However, when I rebooted my computer Terminal Server was running again. So I ended it again but this time off the service. When I fell net stat - ano he showed terminal services does not. then when I restarted my computer, Terminal Server services do not have turn on port 3389 has not been shown that listening

SO my question is, as a user of Vista which doesn't use remote help desk or remotely.

    1. I CAN keep the disabled Services Terminal Server?

    2. it cause me any problem of operation or security if she stays in the disabled state?

3 have disabled will cause me to not be able to get the scheduled updates?

    Thank you

But I have been informed by Norton Personal asa require a Terminal Server Services be, nit for the part of remote assistance, but for other reasons. They say I can't turn off
