  Look at the product key shown on the label on the computer.  Which edition of Windows is on the label?  If the label says Home Premium Home Premium dvd is likely a recovery disk only.  So if there is a recovery disk, so it can reinstall a new copy of Home Premium and all reset the status of the plant.  You will lose your programs and data.

  If the Premium family edition dvd is a dvd retail then you may be able to do a repair on-site modernization (aka ' install fix') of Vista Ultimate with it, but please answer these questions first.

  My laptop running Vista Home 32-bit pre SP2 has been networked with my desktop running XP V2002 Pro SP 3 for a long time.  Until recently, the files were shared back without problem.  After a Windows Update, a few days ago my Vista machine keep gel.  After a diagnosis, I have disabled some startup software Google and McAfee and services programs and did a system restore to March 31 to resolve the problem of gel.   However, I can't restore the capacity on the laptop of Vista file sharing.  This Vista laptop is able to ping the XP machine and see and access the files on the XP machine.  But the XP machine can't Ping the Vista laptop (application expires) and when you click on the list of the Vista laptop for the task force on the XP machine, it gives the error message \\Laptop is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The network path was not found. I tried various fixes suggested.  All have failed. (1) turned power off the modem cable & wireless router, restarted and connected the modem and router computers in after the computer restarted. (2) Turned off all 3rd party software and even restarted the laptop Vista in safe mode with network.  Could not even Ping the laptop of Vista on the XP machine or access the notebook icon in the Working Group in MyNetwork places. (3) Made that exception file sharing and printer is selected in the Windows Firewall settings. (4) checking network and sharing Center.  Discovery of the network, file sharing, sharing public folders, & Printer Sharing set on "On".  Sharing still protected by password set to 'Off '. (5) group named network WORKING Group on both machines. (6) the fact that individual records are always set to 'share '. (7) in the properties of wireless network connections, Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) has been disabled. (8) has a netsh winsock reset on the Vista laptop.   Am I missing something else? This problem would go away if I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 on the laptop / Windows 7 can network with a XP Pro machine? Thanks to all those who have ideas on what the problem may be.

  It is an event that I went through:

  (1) recently I received a bunch of updates to Vista Home Premium 32 bit, after I did the update I decided to perform sfc/scannow task and this is the error message I got the "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and managed to fix them." Details are provided in the CBS.log windir\logs\CBS.log newspaper. For example c:\windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log

  Repair of system files change will take effect after the next reboot.

  (2) so I did restart and then try to run the sfc/scannow task once again, but I still got the same message I described in step 1 again. So basically sfc/scannow function did not repair the corrupted files.

  (3) the next step, I decided to perform a repair Installation of visa which took me 10 hours to complete the task, once the task of upgrading of repair has been made and before the windows update, I ran sfc/scannow task and this time he finds any corrupted files, but after I updated windows sfc/scannow result was the same as step 1.

  It is obvious to me that one of the updates of the origin of this problem, but find it me hard to pinpoint that one. My spooler file got corrupted and I need to know what that the stamp of date/time on the latest version of the file: spoolsv.exe. I did a search on my hard drive and found 8 copies of the file with 7 different dates. I need to know which copy in my file C:\windows\system32\. I suspect that the problem was caused by some kind of malware. I think that some of the different versions on my machine of the initial installation of the Vista, SP1 and SP2. 3 copies that would explain. I tried all the suggestions in this forum and several others. I tried sfc/scannow and it simply replaces the corrupted file by another. I understand how works this file and a simple copy will do the trick if I knew that the file to use. I know that I don't want to go back to the first version of 2006.  BTW... my symptoms are all my printers have disappeared, and when I try to 'add a new printer' I get an error message saying that my spooler service does not work. When I opened my services window it shows that indeed, he is arrested, but I will not start because the description column contains only the code garbled machine indicating that the file is corrupted, or it may contain a virus. I had been using F-Prot until this virus got by and now I use AVG. I scanned my machine with several cleaning packages and it is is more infected, but I worry that from this corrupt file grow something.   My Win Vista Home Premium PC cannot 'see' my Canon Lide 30 Scanner or work with my Canon printer i865. Install the software and drivers on the provided disks not even because of "compatibility issues".

  For this reason the "updates available" on the Canon site (for applications and drivers on the disks) only will be not installed because 'old' versions are not on my pc.

  My pc can 'see' - if that is the right word - my printer in settings, but no further acknowledges that this, and even when the printer is turned on it will not even try to print anything.

  If I can still understand how to get the Vista pc to "run in xp mode" - assuming there is an 'xp mode' for Windows vista to use - this will allow my computer to use the printer and scanner.

  There is nothing really wrong with the printer or scanner while they worked fine with the XP pc.

  Software compatibility problems are more precisely to do with two pilots and the ocr software for the scanner and ALL the drivers and the software of the printer.

  I hope someone can help because I don't want to have to get a different printer/scanner (or upgrade to Win 7 - will this regognise OS my printer and scanner?)

  Compatibility mode is supposed to help eleviate problems not to cause even more problems :-)

  You can actually get some decent printer/scanner price FRO reasonable combinations of our days. You could try (if in the United Kingdom) is Wilkinson (Wilko) stores; W.H.Smith; and Ryman.

  Another alternative is to dual-boot your server (assuming you have aretail copy of XP). This invloves XP install on another partition on your hard drive. The only drawback is that you would have to boot XP to use your printer (assuming that you keep your current).

  I currently have a brother printer copy Scanner that I bought the Ryman stationery, a few years ago. I only paid about £50 for it at the time. My only problem with the brother machine is that there is no way (on my model in any case) to turn the printer off cleaning option. As the PC and the printer are in my room the printer starts always clean at about 04:00. It is not fun to be surprised into a deep sleep by strange noises coming from the printer :-)

  When I try to install the Scan to folder network on a desktop computer running Win VISTA Home Premium Web page displays the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".  There is no option to continue anyway.   Under Tools > Internet Options > security all parameters have a default value.

  On my old laptop under Win XP SP3 and newer laptop running Win 7 Home Premium, when I run the analysis of the installation of the network folder, I have to continue, and then configuration page will become available.   Under Tools > Internet Options > security settings are set to default.

  I'm curious to know why I can't have analysis of screen network on Win VISTA Home Premium system folder but I can do on both other systems?  All three computers are on the same home network.
