  First, disable control (UAC) user account and check if you are able to install the software.

  There are actually two ways to upgrade for you.

  The easiest way would be, inside Adobe Reader X, use help > check updates get 10.1.6. Does it work?

  I've just set up a PC in Windows 8. I set up a password and not other users. After setting up, I did a transfer of data from my old XP machine. Everything was going well until I tried to use my Quicken Online Backup. After some research, I realized that I had to install the backup of Quicken software. When I tried this I got a message that said I had to have administrator privileges and it appeared the accounts of users of my daughter and the deceased wife. I had transferred their user information and accounts because I was warned that if I didn't I might not be able to access some files that I need. When I start the computer a sign in the screen appears to me only. I get my password and I can use the PC. When I start the PC, there is no other connections of the user. I tried to view the user accounts but get the popup that notifies you only an administrator can access this information and offers you the log of my daughter in. My daughter doesn't remember his password. Otherwise, I can use the machine. I loaded Quicken 2012 as well as the software Trend Micro security without problem. This backup Quicken should do something with the registry files, but they are mandated me. I don't understand how I got fired the administrator and other users apparently installed as administrator. Any suggestions? I don't like Win8 but when I bought the computer DELL at Costco last year I had not given the choice. Now I see they are reintroducing Win 7 on DELL computers.

  See if the first two suggestions are useful.

  Have you tried right clicking on the shortcut to the program or the .exe and select "Run As Administrator"?  Perform, even if your user name is an administrator.

  So I just installed CS4 Design Premium on a machine here at work XP... and much to my regret, the installation of Acrobat 9, versions 7 and 8 have been REMOVED, leaving behind the plugin files. The problem, of course, is that these plugins do not work with Acrobat 9. Why this happens, when no other Adobe apps I have ever installed uninstalled previous versions? I still have the first three versions of CS on this machine.

  I guess (or rather hope) that I can re-install Acrobat 7... or I would be wrong?
