• Install the game: stuck on the "creating folders".

  When you try to install 'Freelance', the installation process stops on "create game records".  It creates 477 files to the desired location (I tried the Program Files X 86 Program Files, users/Public and root C: for locations) but do not go beyond this step.  I had successfully installed the game once on this PC, but uninstalled completely because it would not create a multiplayer account number.

  I took all instances of the game out of the registry, all known file location, record and rebooted after each step.  I then installed the full game on my server box to see if the CD has been the question, and it installed just fine.  No matter what, it will create the folders on this PC, but do not far away, even if run as administrator.

  It would be not as confusing if you did not have the game once installed successfully.  Knowing that, the only thing that makes sense is that there is something the surplus of the first plant, which is still on the system.  I was the other player looking for forums and found the multiplayer question everywhere and the fix for it.  But nobody seems to have a problem with installing the program on Vista.  Have you tried to restore the system to a point in time before you uninstalled the game?  When you clean the registry - did you do a search of all the values for the "freelance" Word and all derivatives of that?  I ran Freelancer on my computer at home once, years before and did a search of my book last night and found some registry keys still there, even if I uninstalled it at least four years ago.  There is something that remains the first installation which does not allow the game to complete the installation.  I will continue to seek an answer for you, in the meantime you can try things that I proposed here.  Have you removed records of registered parties - public and private?

• Try to install the game 'Lights Out' (Adventure Company) on HP laptop under Vista with SP2.

  HP Pavilion dv9310us Notebook PC/1.0 GB Ram/Windows Vista Home Premium with SP2 installed / processor is AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL-52 / no changes to the factory configuration

  Lights Out requires:
  OS: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
  CPU: Pentium III 450 MHz or better
  RAM: 128 MB RAM (256 recommended)
  CD-ROM: 24 x CD-ROM Drive (or DVD of PC drive)
  Video: SVGA card graphics or better
  Sound: DirectX 9 Compatible Sound card

  Once I insert the disc in the drive, it starts to "work".  I disabled autorun because he was suspended when I inserted a disc.  So I open the folder on your computer and select the game and right click on "explore".  I then on the installation icon.  1.5 hours later, he finally asked me if I wanted to install the program (I've also implemented so need my permission before installing anything).  It's now 45 minutes (and still waiting) since he asked my permission to install the program, but if I didn't I had a program tried to install, I don't know.  In other words without box "Progress" or installation.

  Maybe I'm just too wait for Vista because this game was not "written" specifically for it?  Hell, more than an hour just to get to the point where he asks me if I want to install the program?  It seems to me that something is wrong somewhere.  Unfortunately I'm not well informed enough to understand.

  I tried defrag and 'cleansing' of the disk (C: drive, not the CD). I have even 50 GB free on a 100 GB drive, and there should be a lot of RAM.  Also, when I run the Task Manager, it shows the reader DVD RW as 'running', not 'does not.

  I * think * something is wrong somewhere in Vista, since the problem began with autorun hung when I inserted an installation disc.

  I would really appreciate any advice that anyone can have.  It's just not good.

  I was "Baby sitting" installation.  No dialog boxes have gone unnoticed.  I had the same problem with another game by the same company last night.  This game has been 'Dark Fall'.  As long that I left him alone, he finally got the game installed, but it took a lifetime to do.  I don't know if the problem is specific to this company or not.  I installed the last week several games download section of Amazon and Big Fish game, which none have given me no problem.  But they were all downloads, then these 2 games is basic disk.  Once Dark Fall WAS installed it worked fine.

  According to the Windows Vista Compatibility Center this game is not compatible with Vista.  You can try to right click on the Setup file and run in XP compatibility.  If this does not help, then you should contact the game manufacturer for any updates\patches that would make it works with Vista.    Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

• DVD player, install the game, but can not find the CD to play

  This happened recently with all my games. My DVD Player recognizes that theres a CD/DVD in the drive and install without problem, but when I go to run the game after the installation, it asks me to insert the CD/DVD in the drive, or can not find the CD. any suggestions? already I've updated my DVD player, it's out of the question. only, he began doing this a few days ago
