  I have a Mid 2010 iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 running version and am trying to transfer my photos from iPhoto to iCloud so I don't lose them when I get my new Mac.   Hi creekercat,

  There are many options to solve this problem. It would be to get a thumb drive or storage device of some sort that you already own to store them on. Better yet, if you Google Drive or Dropbox, download them from here. I don't really recommend put you your pictures on iCloud because it takes lots of storage. If you have any of the above options, you might as well wait for the new Mac and their parachuting directly through Finder to your new Mac. It will be a long process, but hey, at least you don't lose your files.

  Since the upgrade to iOS 9.3.1 I can't add pictures to iCloud shared albums.

  If you want to transfer photos using iCloud shared Albums, photo sharing, they will be transferred from smaller - the edge long will be at maximum 2048 pixels, unless they are panoramic.

  I would scan the photos to a pixel size you want to keep for reference, so you can print them in a format you like - 4000 x 3000 pixels or more, and when you share with iCloud, sharing photos they will be slightly reduced in any way.

  Shared albums are essentially photo streams. They will always show the photos in the order that add you them to the album.  If you want your photos to appear in a specific order, you must add them to the album individually, one by one, exactly in the order of your choice.  You cannot add all photos in an album at once - which will give unpredictable results.

  For example, to create a new album with your photos.  Then ctrl-click on the album and select "Keep arranged by Date, oldest first" to sort the album.  Now add each photo from the album shared individually.  There will be a lot of work.

  So, I use iCloud for about two years now, and it does for the most part, what I want and need to. However, whenever my family and I go camping during the weekend, take a vacation or just to Barbecue a Sunday afternoon, we have a ton of photos on a large number of devices. It is my understanding that an Android user should be able to display/change via a web browser, but don't seems to work.   2: I find a lot of the photo-sharing applications and services give a lot of storage, but at a cost to the quality of the photos. My wife and her friends are always doing something creative with your impressions so even some 'high quality' compression can degrade enough make it unusable.

  3: I have a hard time to ask someone to download an application, not to mention of asking them to pay for one. Nor am I comfortable someone jump through hoops, just so that I can watch through a batch of photos in the hope of finding one or two which are useful.

  So, is there an easy way to do it, or I'm stuck or wait for Apple to understand a feature like this would be useful or leave iCloud for a solution amicably more cross-platform? I do not understand that Apple needs to focus on the development and support of applications and services for its ecosystem and customer, but would it not make sense to make it convenient for outside users to have a great experience too?

  I don't know what problems you encountered but the sharing Web site works fine for me.

  You should not need to do anything extra. Check if, by chance, the download is suspended. Photos > Preferences > iCloud > Pause button someday. If this is the case, you can resume at any time.

  The download takes a long time. With a large library, it could be a week or more. Even the initial preparation takes many hours.

  AH HA.  I used to look at the photos through system preferences settings. I just checked photos > Preferences > iCloud, which shows the «update» Thursday Today is Wednesday then why isn't it up-to-date? And more importantly, how can I force it to sync?
