  I don't think that you can not do it like that, but you don't need to. As you are already using a script of the event in the sequence of keys, you can check the length of the text and then reject the strikes if it is too long.

  The 'local' part in the context of email addresses, the part to the left of the symbol @.   It seems to be. I figured it at approximately 16000 characters more or less (or even lower). (Estimated from the original character TextEdit limit as it seems to be this type of core service text text handling in movement and FCPX.)  I drew this conclusion during the development of a method to create a movement subtitles. It finally turned out that I had to cut the scripts into pieces 'chapter of size' to keep the character countdown. I never got to finish this tutorial and it has been quite some time now (and I can't not find my notes on the subject). It could be that the number of characters estimated is actually lower.

  Starting from the version 4.7, I don't see any how useful filter adapted to your needs.  Then why don't you override keyChar() like this:

  I have not tested this code, but you can give it a shot...

  You can add a manipulation (or super.keyChar...) for Characters.ENTER and Characters.ESCAPE, as well as anything else you be useful, such as the comma and the period.
