I was able to remedy this through the command prompt (chkdsk) but I want to know how to install sp1. I ran an sfc scan result were he finds files corrupt, but he couldn't fix it. I then ran the option upgrade from vista startup disk and sfc shows that there are corrupted files. The newspaper did not show all corrupted files sfc was not able to solve. I ran sp1 install from both standalone and windows update. I chose the option the first time and the second time, I shut down the computer and booted from safe mode.
