JPEG or PSD file

What is the difference between a jpeg file and a psd file? Why the psd files allow you to work inside the layers of difference after registration and jpeg are not?

Hi, Hogcdr.

A JPEG is a flattened image, while a PSD layers allows either registered, as you mentioned. JPEG files are generally used as online, their file size must be small. If they contained layers, size of files they would be too great to use.

A good rule, is if you're hoping to edit your document multi-buried in the future, save it as a PSD. Everything you want to share online, save a copy in JPEG format.

  • Cropped saving images as JPEG NOT PSD files

I am a photographer of Motorsport and treat hundreds of JPEG files at the end of the day. I used to be able to load a batch of images in CS6, levels of contrast and brightness, crop, and then either save pictures one at a time with ctrl + S or shift + ctrl + S. I could also record the entire lot by returning to the bridge with shift + ctrl + W and saying I want to save the changes. This meant only confirming the JPG compression to each. However PS decided now he wants to save images that were cut in the form of PSD files. Changes in layer of layer 0 so each image must pass through a menu that adds hours to my workflow. Is it possible to fix the thid behavior without having to reinstall the program?

Hello, if you are in CS6, you must disable the non-destructive nature of the now default to the crop tool. In the options bar, select 'remove the trimming pixels' in the options bar: ('G' in the following image)

By default, the CS6 crop tool hides instead of delete pixels, to be able to go back and cancel. To do this, it jumps to the background image to a layer. And because the jpeg format cannot have a layer, Photoshop offers to save the PSD file.

JPEG file format does not support maintaining the structure of the layer.

Suggest you save critical files such as JPEG and PSD.

  • PSD files are get desaturated when I output a JPEG copy?

    Hey all,.

I'm having a strange problem. By way of background, I just upgraded to a whole new MacBook so I had to reinstall and configure my entire suite creative on the new system. It's the latest version. I don't know if there is a strange definition miss me, but I use Photoshop for years and never had the following problem (even on my old MacBook, which was running as well creative cloud).

I'm editing photos for a client. I always keep a work-in-progress Photoshop file saved in case I need to return to my layers to settle something. While I'm working on the photo my PSD file looks quite normal. Even if I save it, close and then reopen, it seems. So far so good. When I finished editing I save it one last time to the PSD format, then I flatten it, convert it to sRGB, save a JPEG copy and then close the file. BUT... after that, when I reopen it my PSD file looks really happen. Copy JPEG looks fine, but the PSD seems far away. I don't have ANY changes in the PSD file since I finally recorded it, and it was well before I closed the file (like about 30 seconds ago).

At first I thought it was a color profile or something to monitor. So I took my (now) desaturated PSD and re-issued one other copy JPEG using the same settings as the last time. When I compare the two JPEG images there is a very obvious difference. The original looks normal and the second (issued by the desaturated PSD file) now looks like desaturated so. So something is definitely altered or messed up in the process.

I'm really scratching my head on this one. Is there something that I am missing?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    All right. That explains it.

Pardon my language, but it's a bad idea basically at all levels. Especially if you later convert to CMYK. What, then, you convert to? You don't know, that's what.

Basically, what you're doing are throw everything to the wind, stripping the RGB of any significance numbers. Without a color space numbers mean nothing or nothing at all.

  • How to upgrade all PSD files in the Indesign document as a JPEG?

    Hello

I'm a wedding photographer who uses Indesign CS5 to create albums. All my photos are initially PSDs in the album. At the end of the album, I would convert PSD files in JPEG format and then be updated in InDesign Album. How can I do this?

This would smoke less on the size of the file and I will always have the option to edit the album in the future.

Thanking you in advance for your time and understanding.

    Kind regards

    Phil

You can batch convert them in Photoshop and save them to a new folder. As long as the file names are the same, you can connect them easily using the repeat order for file in the links Panel. There is a choice there be reprinted under the same name with a new extension.

But my $0.02 worth is that it won't do a thing for the size of the InDesign file and you will need to store the PSD in any case... which means this actually will increase the amount of storage space you need.

  • What does it mean to 'Include develop settings inside JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files metadata?

I wonder what the option ' include develop settings inside the JPE metadata . G, TIFF, and PSD files"in settings/metadata catalog done?  What happens if you uncheck the box?

    Bob12312321 wrote:

also when this is unchecked lightroom always will record keyword changes to raw (nef) files?  Thank you!

Metadata (metadata 'real' like keyowords or develop adjustments) are never saved in Raw DNG files (like .nef, .cr2) directly. With these files, there is always a file called (with the .xmp extension) created to contain the XMP information.

And Yes, if the option is disabled, LR record key words on the XMP sidecar, when you 'Write to the metadata file' or have the autowrite option active.

  • Extract embedded png and jpeg from InDesign files, or still do I to print/4 c?

I'm creating a catalog, both in PDF for nxtBooks (online) and they want to use the same files for printing. I don't know if it's digital, or if that would matter. I was a given and old document to draw some information and images of. Some of these images seem to be incorporated in their old identity document. This isn't something I've ever done, but I'm old school. To make it even better, these images are old screenshots, and nobody kept the originals. They seem to be scaled down in their document, this is not to say it is a larger file hiding somewhere?

However, is it necessary? I know it will be OK for viewing online, but what happens when I create a pdf of press quality? Is this what is causing problems for the printer?

And while I'm OK printers with binding psd rather than files JPEG or tiff files? I know that the color would be more accurate if I converted, but this customer is particularly accurate color matching concerned.

    Thank you!

to deal with embedded images - go to your links dialog box - select the embedded link - appearing in the upper right of the links dialog box, and select "désincorporer" - this will open a dialog box asking where to save to (this will be the original)

JPEGs are fine (sometimes png files can be problematic because they are usually RGB) - color space "may" be a problem - check with your printhouse to see what they prefer (CMYK and not RGB)

Note: PDF print quality can convert the color space and color changes may occur

Import / introduction screen is important about 70 photos and for the rest, I have the screen message «the software to decrypt the media in this system is not available. » Try to fix le problem by installation le correct decoders for the files. »

  • PSE 8 cannot use the option up DNG or PSD files

I'm working through the book from Mark Galer "Adobe Photoshop éléments 8 Maximum Performance" and in the part 1 project 2, it takes you through a process to make the adjustments located in part with the cab and the main Editor.

I opened the DNG in ACR adjustments for it and then following the instructions in the book clicked on the 'Open the Image' button to take back me to the PSE MAin editing area. It then says should be able to return to the DNG file using the file-> Place menu, but Place is greyed out.

I tried to work my way around it and began to think that the option space was not at all available. If I open an entirely separate psd file, it is grayed out, but if I open a jpeg file is allotted me.

Of course, missing me something here. I must admit that I am not too impressed by the book, because it seems to ignore certain milestones at different stages and I hd to guess some of them (like the DNG files are required for a project and method to use to open).

Can anyone help with suggestions on how to go through the trial, opening a DNG in ACR, open it in the main editor and then go back to reprocess differently in order to put in the separate layer.

    Thank you very much

    Neil

The option to place is generally not available for 16-bit files, then when the image editing in acr

change where says depth of 8 Bits/channel or once you open a 16-bit file access

    Image > Mode > 8 Bits/channel.

  • importer reported a generic error with .psd files

    Hello

Recently updates to Cs5. I get the "importer reported a generic error" when I try to import a .psd file. I have photoshop CS 2 installed.

When I try to import jpeg, tiff or any other fotmat still I get errors such as "the bitdepth is not supported" and other such errors. I can't import still images. It's really frustrating.

Work is about to export a still of the time line. Open in photoshop and save it as a psd with layers. import the layer I first wanted to import.

any ideas of what could be the cause?

    Welcome to the forum.

There are several considerations with still images:

    They MUST be RGB.

They cannot be indexed or CMYK.

    They cannot be progressive JPEG.

They can be a higher resolution to 8 bits.

PSD have had problems, if a layer (or more) are smaller than the full pixel x pixels of resolution.

They cannot be larger than 4096 x 4096. Prosaic, quality will be better, if we adapt to close the project frame size in PS.

Let's see - to be a little more "they can't be', but I can't think of them now.

All the foregoing apply to one of your images?

If the above does not apply, so please give us details of the problem files.

    Good luck

  • (2.1.1.9) bridge in CS3 10.0.1 will not open the psd file in Camera Raw

Why is file / "Open in Camera Raw" in grayed out when I try to open a psd file in Bridge?  It will open a JPEG in Camera Raw.  Thank you

As far as I know there isn't an option to open PSD files in ACR.

It must be JPEG or TIFF format. (Or crus of course!)

  • I have problems when I shoot in raw + jpeg. RAW files seem corrupted!

I have problems when I shoot in raw + jpeg.  It seems that the raw files get corrupted.  I shot raw without a problem.  It's only when I shoot in raw + jpeg.  Raw files will not appear in Photoshop elements.  I installed the Canon software and could see all the raw files; However, I noticed that when I tried to post some full screen they would not show.  I also noticed that these block-ish look raw files.  They appear more digital research.   Is there a specail required in RAW + jpeg map?  I formatted ones I have before their use.

Thank you all for watching my post.  I shoot with a 60 d using Photoshop Elements 10.  Finally, I called Canon tech support and found out it was the card reader that was causing problems.  When I used another card reader, I was able to transfer the Jpeg and raw files.  They advised me to connect the camara to the computer to transfer files.  I learned to use a card reader and have for years.  It was the first time, it caused me problems.
