logical partition of partition primary vs

I'm using Windows XP as my main operating system, just installed and got service pack 3. However, I want to create a separate partition for the moment where I store my files and use my 'C' strictly for Windows XP partition. I also install other operating systems to other partitions, each to their own and use the partition that I am about to create as my file/program storage partition. However, for my file storage partition (that don't will not no matter what operating system on it), I don't know if I should create a primary partition or a logical partition. Which should I choose? Please note that I have install more than 4 operating systems in the future.

Hello

You must use a logical partition for your data files.

As for the 4 I don't have the answer to the it of operating systems, the maximam I installed on my pc it was 2 or 3 operating systems and without a data partition. And that was with the help of the magic of Boot and this program is currently not compatible with windows XP above also with XP, this program only works with the fat 32. Take care and

Good luck

  • How to transform a primary partition to logical partition

    Hello

I just bought a laptop computer HP Probook 4330 s, product number - A6D89EA #ABB, with 64-bit Windows 7 Professional preinstalled on it.

My problem is I can not reduce the C Partition and another partition to keep my data or install another OS in a logical partition, because this system has already made four as primary partitions:

-300 system - partition NTFS Active

-GO 442,2 (Windows (C) - primary partition NTFS

-18.6 GB - HP Recovery - NTFS primary partition

    -5 GB - HP-Tools - primary partition FAT32.

I want to turn one of these partitions in logical Partition and shrink Windows-C, create a partition extended with two logical partitions in it.

I should mention that I don't need the HP tools.

Or, I need to contact Microsoft to allow me to download a Win 7 Professional and reinstall on this notebook using the key delivered with this laptop and do what I want the partitions?

  • Different between primary and logical partition?

Referring to the next video, after a free space for the new partition, I create partition, which show the logical drive (blue color), but the other partitions are of primary partitions (blue color), I would like to know it possible to create a main drive instead of logical drive partition, and what difference is between the primary and logical partitions.

There is an option to delete a logical partition (drive D :), after you remove it, can he create a new primary partition?) Through this process, it will cause no problem on the primary partition (drive c :))?

Is there an advantage to have a logical partition (drive D :)?

In the future, if I need more space in C: drive, it will be easier to extend the primary partition (drive c :)) with logical partition (drive D :)?

If a logical partition (drive D :) convert primary partition, it will be easier to extend the primary partition (drive c :)) with primary partition (drive D :)?)

  • Invisible logical partitions after deleting partition EISA WinRE on satellite

    Hello

I have a dual boot with pre-installed Vista and XP. So, I got in total 3 primary partitions and 1 scope with logical partitions it contains. I keep Vista on the reserve and only use XP as a boot partition. I wanted to try a third OS but I had reached the maximum of 4 primary partitions on the disk. So I made a backup of and deleted the EISA WinRE partition which was pre-installed with Vista, thinking this would affect only Vista, my only boot is XP.

I used the XP computer for this management tool. But when I click with the "delete" button right over WinRE and chosen, the score became the unallocated volumes, but also ALL logic on the extended partition, except the first.

I tried to take over WinRE recovery with Acronis image process, but I have the extended partition still shows only the first volume and no trace of the rest of my data. Obviously, it was a big mistake and WinRE seems to contain more information for Vista recovery.

How can I return my logical partitions?

    Thanks for any help

Hmm I doubt you might be abele to restore the WinRE partition once again without use of the Vista CD it seems you completely remove this partition one also all data from the partition.
I agree with you and it was really a mistake, sorry but I n t see any big chance to get back but maybe someone has another idea.

  • 'HP_Tools' to delete and recreate it as a logical partition

Hello! I have to do some operations on the hard disk partitions. Now, I have 4 primary partitions: System, the partition with Win7, recovery and HP_Tools. I need an another primary partition, and I don't want to remove the HP_Tools! That's my idea:

    1. create an image of 'system' of the operating system on DVD and remove recovery;

    2. create a HP_Tools image and delete it.

    3. create an extended partition. Create a logical partition and then restore HP_Tools inside.

Thus, HP_Tools will keep its functions? Or it may not work correctly as a logical partition?

    Thank you

    Davide

Yes, you can create the recovery kit, and then remove the recovery Partition. Here is the link that has the steps to create and then how to use them in the future:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01895783

You can remove the HP tools partition and create it on a flash drive or USB key. Here is the link that will help you download the utility that will help you recreate HP tools partition on the disk on the flash drive or hard:

  • Windows 7 RTM Installer deleted logical Partitions

My computer has two physical hard disks, each with multiple partitions. I did a custom installation of Windows 7 Professional RTM on the first hard disk, deleting an old primary partition containing Windows XP (which wouldn't start). However, after I installed Windows 7, ALL of my logical partitions on this disk had also disappeared. The Windows 7 Installer creates two primary partitions: the big partition I realized it, and a partition of 100 MB system reserved. (It is always not allocated the remaining space on the disk, as the new partition for Windows 7 was smaller than the Windows XP partition, which I've deleted.)

    Former route:

    GiB 250 NTFS (primary)
    100 MiB ext2 (primary)
    3 logical partitions (two ext3, a FAT32)
    100 giB encrypted (primary)

    New layout:
    100 MiB NTFS (primary)
    149.9 giB NTFS (primary)
    Unassigned 100 GiB
    100 MiB ext2 (primary)
115,66 giB space (!) free where the logical partitions used to be
    100 giB encrypted (primary)

It seems that the installation program has decided to get rid of my extended partition. How can I recover my old logical partitions?

I managed to restore the missing partitions to aid CGSecurity's TestDisk, but it took some doing. Always, however, the fact that the Windows 7 Installer has deleted my partitions without asking confirmation is more worrying. That's what I guess happened:

Disc has 3 primary partitions and one extended partition, before starting the installation.
I told the installer to remove a primary partition and create a new one in its place to install Windows 7 on. He wanted to do a second primary partition, so she won another partition to delete. He didn't tell me that. He said he may need create additional partitions, but nothing has been said to delete those that already exist.
The Setup program has installed Windows 7, and my extended partition was gone (so logical partitions inside it were no longer accessible).

I recommend strongly anyone install Windows 7 on a disk that contains several other partitions to create a partition for Windows 7 in advance (using the management of disks or DiskPart.exe), instead of using Setup to do. In this way, it will not create the partition of MiB 100 extra.

  • Custom extension created logical partition

I created a custome partition by reducing 50 GB on my C drive.  I named the new logical drive A
Now, I've exhausted 49 GB of this space and I need to extend it.  Is possible to allocate more memory to a custom created existing logical partition?

You cannot extend to the rear.
If you have another Partition after it, you need to remove the next Partition > extend your 50 GB in this space.
    It's your choice.

  • Type logic Partition of an existing table

    Dear all,

My database is 10gr 2 and Linux is the operating system.

One of my table in the production database is huge and contains lots of data. Table is growing daily. There are many queries that users run on this table and the selection criteria is normally the date of entry of the registration, it's an Entrty_Date field with the date data type.

I want a partition logical on this table in such a way, the table name remains the same, and data are logically partitioned.

As if the Entry_Date is from 2005, a partition is made on criteria:

    2005-2006
    2006-2007
    .
    .
    2011
. at the request of the user for records having entry date > 2011... the query is made only this piece of the table, which makes the fast query.

I hope that I am able to make you understand my problem. If its possible in Oracle please let me know the name of the method and I'll RND on this one. And I have to do it on an existing table that contains a lot of data.

    Thank you

  • How to remove a logical Partition without disturbing the other

Hello, I recently ran into some trouble.

As you can see from the picture, there are little free space next to the D: (10.55 GB) drive. I want to merge the free space with the 5 GB unallocated space and want to create a primary partition to install another version of windows. The problem is that when I right click the free space, the partition option delete is gray. I discovered that to delete the D: drive to get space but I can't do that. Even my backup drive is full.

So, how do to remove free space without disturbing D: drive

You can merge only the free and not allocated using a third-party partitioning tool and not the built in tool of victory.

    It's free http://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/epm-free.html

If you add another partition to base all existing partitions will be converted to dynamic, the recovery partition to the then will no longer work

  • How to format the partition Winfows 7?

I have Windows 7 on my main partition and Windows 8.1 in the logical drive. Now that I don't need Windows 7, I would like to remove it from my PC. But nor removal of partition from disk management does not (quick format) the Win 7 partition formatting works. Now how can I format the Win 7 partition and use it for other purposes. In addition, there is a way to convert the logical Partition primary and vice versa?

    Hi Sujan,

If you delete the primary partition, leaving the logic, the system cannot start because the main partition contains the MBR file.

I suggest you to improve the Windows 7 partition (which is a primary partition) to 8.1 Windows.

Note: You will have to reinstall applications.

Once upgrade has completed, you can copy the data that is in your Windows 8.1 drive to another drive, and you can format the partition Windows 8.1.

  • Recovery partition will be still functional after the primary to logic?

My Pavilion dv6 comes with Windows 7 64 bit pre-installed, the portitioned HD in the MBR in of 4 1ry: utility (FAT32), system, C and recovery. I need more partitions for Linux and an encrypted partition. Now, if I reduce C, then remove backup recovery, create an extended partition containing logical partitions can I recreate the recovery of the backup (now logical) partition? In other words, F11 will be still functional on pressing at the start?

    Hello

It is a great guide on the link below by Daniel_Potyrala about the re-partitining your HARD drive.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/other-notebook-PC-questions/how-to-REPARTITION-HDD-of-HP-notebook-with-pre-loaded-Windows-7/TD-p/742019

In response to the last part of your question, your recovery disks will recreate the recovery Partition - , but this process will erase all custom partitions you created and your laptop will be returned to its original state, that is to say with 4 primary partitions.

    Kind regards

    DP - K

  • Sam P850 - what it takes with a primary partition 3, if I resize number 2

    The laptop model is P850-131.

I need to decrease the size of the partition win 7 to create a space to expand and its logical partitions.
But what to do with partition primary number 3 after resizing is finished.
What is it. It contains data. Is - this for backup recovery Toshiba or what.
Contain data, if no backup has not been done.

Should I organize a new primary number 3 because it is primary end either, it's...
It seems not to be of type NTFS. If I create another, what it should be.
    All information is valuable.

Can you please open disk management and make the screenshot. It will be very useful to you understand what you mean exactly.

What I can say is follow: before do you anything create recovery disk. It may happen that after changing the structure of the partitions you will not be able to install the OS using F8 and repair my computer option.
